As an Aussie being in or on the water is not uncommon for me. This was taken to a whole new level on a trip to England in 2017 were I was invited on a charity evening aboard a longboat. Now I have been on yatchs, canoes, ferries, speedboats even the humble "Tinnie" but i had never before been on a longboat. Or even knew what one was. Turns out it is exactly as the name implies and long narrow boat with a flat bottom to allow it to travel along the many internal waterways and canals across Britain. It was such an amazing experience jumping on and off to open the lochs and to hold between gates as the water level rose and fell. I was also given the opportunity to skipper for a short way thankfully in one of the wider stretches of water and my steering skills turned out to be not so flash. A wonderful experience i will not soon forget. There are plenty of options for where to experience this in the UK but having family in and around the Nottinghamshire I am partial to any waterways in the East Midlands. #gooutside
