Germany Bavarian Forest: Lusen Summit to Rachelsee Lake Granite Boulder Trail
#arrivalguide I based in Neuschönau, took the Igelbus (seasonal, May–Oct, free with Kurkarte) to Waldhäuser lot, then hiked Lusen (1,373 m) via the “Himmelsleiter”—a boulder staircase of frost-shattered granite, 1.5 h up. The summit is a chaos of rounded boulders (devil’s wheelbarrow legend, really periglacial). Descended east toward Rachelsee (1,107 m), a cirque lake under Großer Rachel, total loop 11.6 km, 4.5 h. NP rules are strict: stay on markierte Pfade (yellow animal symbols for loops), no wild camping, no bathing in Rachelsee, dogs leashed, no biking on trails. Lusen summit free; the Hans-Eisenmann-Haus visitor center at the foot has toilets and exhibits, card accepted. I wore trail shoes, fine, but the Himmelsleiter is ankle-rolling if wet. Deadwood policy means fallen trees stay—don’t climb unstable ones for photos. Mistake: I expected alpine views; this is primeval forest wilderness, not panorama—reset expectations. Best at 7 am for mist in the boulder field. Discussion: does the Bavarian Forest’s “let nature be nature” philosophy make it more compelling than a manicured Alpine park, or does the lack of summit views disappoint?

On a clear day, it felt really comfortable to walk along Munich to the famous Maximiliansbrücke in the administrative region of Bavaria. There is a river under the bridge, the sun shines on the water, the green trees and Western-style architecture on both sides echo each other, the whole picture is very quiet and vibrant, suitable for slowing down slowly

Passau River Magic🌊
🇦🇹 🇩🇪
Another Bavarian city worthy of a special mention is Passau, the city of three rivers.
Here, already approaching the Austrian border, you can cross one of the bridges into Austria.
My friend's husband says that when he finds himself in that part of the world, and they live an hour away, he crosses the bridge specifically because he knows a gas station there ⛽️, and gas is cheaper in Austria than in Germany. 😂
Of course, that's not all I remember about the city; I truly enjoyed the walk.
At the end of the embankment, three rivers meet: the Danube, the Inn, and the Ill.
And the most magical thing is the color of the water! The Inn River here is truly amazing. It originates in the Swiss Alps and carries glacial meltwater—that's why the hue is so unreal, turquoise-green, as if someone added paint.
💡 A little secret: the best view is from the castle above the city. From there, you can see three rivers at once—just wow 😍
Entrance to the castle museum costs €7, but if you take the shuttle from Römerplatz (before the bridge), you'll get a €2 discount.
☀️ Another life hack: visit on a sunny day—the colors of the water and roofs are especially vibrant then.
The climb to the castle on foot takes only 10-15 minutes, and the views along the way are so beautiful that you'll want to stop every few steps and take photos 📸
But this beauty also has a downside—frequent flooding. A year ago, the water level rose so high that people were cruising through the old town in boats! It's no wonder there's a hydrometric gauge on the embankment—it's scary to imagine the upper divisions there were already in use.
The town's architecture is subtly Austrian, with a slight tendency toward pomp.
I've also added the luxurious Danube cruise ships to my wishlist ✔️
I'm adding the specialty coffee shop Lievie to my list of recommendations; they really know how to brew and serve coffee with a bean card. There's also a ceramics shop nearby.

Egglsee in Ebersberg: A Hidden Gem of Serenity Amidst Forest and Lake
📍Address:
Located in Ebersberg, east of Munich, Egglsee (also known as Egglburger See) is a secret lake cherished even by locals. Free from the hustle and bustle of tourists, this tranquil spot offers the soothing sounds of the forest and occasional bird calls over the water. Here are my personal highlights to help you unlock the hidden charms of this lake:
🗓️Itinerary:
1. **Stroll Along the Forest and Lake Borders**
The lake trail spans approximately 10.5 kilometers and is so flat that even strollers can navigate it gracefully! The path winds through the Ebersberger Forst, a 90-square-kilometer sea of greenery. In spring, wildflowers carpet the ground, while autumn transforms it into a golden tunnel. Fun fact: you might stumble upon remnants of a medieval monastery's waterworks along the way—a must-see for history buffs.
2. **A Secret Haven for Birdwatchers** 💞Why We Recommend It:
This area is an officially recognized bird sanctuary (Vogelfreistätte), home to species like the red-crested pochard and herons. Bring your binoculars and head to the wooden boardwalk by the lake during early morning or dusk for a VIP view of these birds grooming themselves.
3. **🏖️Atmosphere/Facilities: Autumn’s Tranquil Charm**
With crisp 13°C air and golden leaves, the lake reflects the surrounding trees like a natural filter—perfect for photography enthusiasts! However, some wetland sections can get muddy, so wear non-slip shoes to avoid an unintended close encounter with the foliage.
4. **Wild Encounters: Spotting Forest Residents**
📍Address: Nearby Ebersberg Wildlife Park (Wildpark) is home to red deer and wild boar families. At dusk, they often wander to the lake for a drink. Remember to keep a safe distance—wild boar tusks are not just for show!
5. **🏖️Atmosphere/Facilities: Bavarian Culinary Treats After Relaxation**
Feeling tired? Head to the town’s traditional restaurant "Gasthof" for crispy pork knuckle paired with dark beer. The owner might even share stories about their family recipe. After your meal, take a stroll to the Saint Hubertus Forest Lodge (Forsthaus Hubertus), where the summer beer garden ambiance is simply unbeatable.
· *💞Why We Recommend It:** This place feels like a muted paradise, perfect for travelers seeking solitude. Avoid summer weekends and visit on a cool spring or autumn weekday to experience the forest’s most authentic breath. Photography enthusiasts should aim for early morning mist or sunset, when the lake turns into a golden-edged mirror!
· *Travel Bonus:** If you have extra time, visit the Ebersberg Castle ruins. From its vantage point, you can overlook the entire forest and lake, instantly understanding why medieval nobles fought to claim this spot!
💰Average Cost: €20-30

Holiday Park GmbH
#themepark
Holiday park was beautiful, but it is mostly made for children.
Not very big, but big enough to spend a whole day there (or two if you have kids and they try every ride on the park) and have fun.
The queues were not very long, except of the geforce expedition where you have to wait much longer due to its popularity.
You can find arcade games in every section of the park which is fun. There are also the games were you win tickets to exchange for items. (these don't really worth it, you can buy these items on your own much cheaper.
