Who understands, sisters! Taking the kids to Yunnan's Dulong River truly shocked me😭 This is, in my heart, the last pure land in Yunnan, bar none. Bringing the kids here to experience the primitive and mysterious is truly meaningful! I've been to the Dulong River twice. The first time was in November 2021, with the kids. The river water rolled like sapphires, the color absolutely stunning—beyond any words describing blue, green, or teal in the world~ The winter in Dulong River is cold and bleak, like Haruki Murakami's "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World." The kids saw such scenery for the first time and were so excited they kept clapping~ The second time was in September 2022, trekking with the kids through the rainy season in Dulong River, still primitive and mysterious~ The forest was dark green, surrounded by lingering mist, the river also dark green, mixing with milky white waves crashing over rocks, the sound of flowing water never ceasing~ This beauty contrasts with the clear blue of autumn and winter. In summer, the "ancient secret realm of Dulong River" feels like "the mountains are as quiet as ancient times, the days as long as a small year," a true escape. The self-driving distance from Lushui to Fugong is about 136 kilometers, with a driving time of 2.5-3 hours. Travel along National Highway G219 (Nujiang Scenic Highway), passing through key attractions such as Tiger Leaping Gorge, Laomudeng Village, Zhiziluo Village, and Shiyueliang. Figures 1-4, Nujiang’s natural barrier - Tiger Leaping Gorge (Lamaden), located in Chenggan Township, Lushui City along the Nujiang River. Here, the river narrows to about 20 meters, with overlapping peaks on both sides, bizarre rock formations, and sheer cliffs. In the middle of the river lies a giant 2-meter square boulder resting across the riverbed. Water cascades down both sides of the boulder, splashing waves, with roaring waves crashing against the shore, creating a deafening sound echoing through the gorge. “Lamaden” is a Lisu word, also known as “Lakualuo” or “Lamadenpei.” “Lama” means tiger, and “den” means leap, together meaning Tiger Leaping Gorge. According to legend, a tiger once jumped across the river here, giving the gorge its name. It is also regarded by the Lisu’s Tiger Clan as their place of origin. The Nujiang Grand Canyon runs north to south and suddenly narrows here, revealing its magnificent grandeur and forming the “Lamaden” landscape, with the narrowest point only 10 meters wide. The gorge’s peaks tower on both sides, with cliffs as sharp as blades, some rising into the clouds; bizarre rocks of various shapes lie low in the river. Figures 5-6, Feilai Stone is located 90 kilometers from Liuku, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, at an altitude of 1300 meters, on the east bank of the Nujiang River inside Pihe Nationality Middle School. It weighs over 500 tons, stands more than 3 meters tall, and has a diameter of over 2 meters. At around 2:30 a.m. on March 19, 1983, a tremendous explosion sounded like the sky and earth splitting. A giant stone fell from the sky, standing proudly in the small courtyard of the teachers’ dormitory at Pihe Nationality Middle School in Fugong County, occupying about 40 square meters. It landed perfectly in the center, only damaging a corner of the eaves on the north side. The rock body was close to the wall, and the dozen or so teachers sleeping in the dormitory were completely unharmed. The next morning, people searched everywhere for signs of the stone’s fall but found no traces on either side of Biluoxueshan or Gaoligongshan. Thus, the stone’s descent from the sky remains a mystery, and local people still tell many magical legends about it. Figures 7-13, City of Memories - Zhiziluo, a forgotten small town. It was once the prefectural capital of Nujiang Prefecture and an important post on the Ancient Tea Horse Road. In the early 1980s, geological forecasts predicted a major natural disaster. Overnight, it became a ghost town, and Zhiziluo’s time has been frozen for 40 years. In Lisu language, “Zhiziluo” means “good place.” It is located on a ridge at 2023 meters altitude in Biluoxueshan and was once the capital of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture and the original seat of Bijiang County. Once a prosperous county seat and the capital of Nujiang Prefecture, it is now often sadly called the “City of Memories” or “Ghost Town.” P7-P8, Nu Ethnic Museum (Octagonal Building): This is a landmark building in Zhiziluo, once a library and a newly built but never used structure. Although it is not open to the public now, you can climb the stairs to overlook the entire Zhiziluo Village and the distant Biluoxueshan, offering an excellent view. P10, Crown Mountain in the northern section of Gaoligongshan is quite famous, named for its crown-like shape. It stands out among the mountains and can be viewed from the Laomudeng viewing platform. Figures 14-20, Laomudeng Village in Fugong County, meaning “a place people like to come” in Lisu, is at an altitude of 1850 meters with very high oxygen content, known as a natural oxygen bar. It lies east of Biluoxueshan and west of Gaoligongshan, with the Nujiang River rushing southward between the two mountains at its feet. P14-P17, Laomudeng Christian Church: This red and white church built on the edge of a cliff is a landmark of Laomudeng. It has no fancy decorations, only blue brick walls, red-painted wooden windows, and long benches, but it is full of pure faith. If the timing is right, be sure to listen to the sacred songs sung in Lisu, a four-part a cappella that is ethereal and powerful, truly wonderful. The church holds services every Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 8 p.m.

The Dulong River is a secret within a secret, featuring pristine natural scenery and mysterious facial tattoo culture. The Dulong River is located in Gongshan County, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is the only settlement area of the Dulong ethnic group in China, known for its original canyon scenery and unique ethnic culture. Currently, it operates under a real-name reservation system with a daily limit of 300 visitors. The Dulong River lies at the border of China and Myanmar and at the junction of Yunnan and Tibet. It is part of the Gaoligong Mountain National Nature Reserve and the core area of the "Three Parallel Rivers" World Natural Heritage site. With a forest coverage rate of 93%, it is known as the "Natural Museum of Wild Plants." The scenic area centers around the Dulong River Canyon and includes attractions such as Moon Waterfall and the Pukawang Primitive Tribe. It is being developed into a national 5A-level tourist resort.‌‌ Figures 1 and 2 show the "Swing Luoshen Tree Stump Viewing Platform" in the Nujiang Grand Canyon area, backed by snow-capped mountains at about 4,200 meters elevation, surrounded by primeval forest landscapes. Named after the nearby "spruce tree stump" scenery, the platform offers views of snow mountains, canyons, and original vegetation. Figure 5 shows Dulong River Township. Figures 6 to 17 depict Pukawang, a primitive village located in Dulong River Township, Gongshan County, Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is a place full of pristine ecology and Dulong ethnic culture, often called a true "paradise on earth." The village is surrounded by dense forests and clear streams. The Pukawang River in front of the village is a tributary of the Dulong River. The river water is crystal clear and emerald green, winding from deep within the valley and flowing into the Dulong River after passing the village. Standing on the suspension bridge over the Pukawang River, one can gaze at towering snow mountains and layers of forests, creating a spectacular view. Figures 18 and 19 show Longyuan Village, located in the central part of Dulong River Township. It is the village with the highest concentration of women with facial tattoos, and in recent years, elderly tattooed women still reside there.
