During our journey from a hotel in downtown Phrae to Wat Na Khu Ha, we passed by Mae Kham Reservoir, which is located along the route to the temple. On our way back, since we had some time, we decided to take a detour to admire the beauty of this reservoir. We visited during midday when the sun was quite strong, but it made the photos we took turn out stunningly beautiful. The dam's ridge here isn't very long, and the view behind it features lush, green mountains surrounding the area, typical of a reservoir setting. At the center of the dam's ridge, there's a sign that reads "Mae Kham Reservoir, a Royal Initiative Project," where visitors can take photos and check in.

I personally had the dry char siu pork noodles because I love the noodles coated in that generous amount of flavorful char siu pork. If you like this dish, you absolutely must try this place! The Upper Huai King Reservoir is a serene retreat nestled among rolling hills and lush greenery near a major lignite mining area. This time, we packed our favorite picnic basket filled with sticky rice, grilled chicken, fresh vegetable salad, and chilled fruit juice before setting off in our trusty pickup truck. It took less than an hour from downtown Lampang to reach this tranquil spot. The area surrounding the reservoir is peaceful, offering stunning views, especially in the evening. The water is crystal clear and expansive, surrounded by large trees and gentle hills covered in vibrant green grass. The late afternoon sunlight reflects off the water's surface, creating a shimmering effect. We chose a favorite spot near the water on a wide grassy area, laid out a mat, and set up our picnic table for a fun and relaxing time. Of course, we also took the opportunity to create some content and snap photos! Since the Upper Huai King Reservoir is still a hidden gem and not crowded, especially in the evening, we had plenty of space to unleash our creativity. The twilight light reflecting on the water was breathtaking, and we ended up taking photos non-stop for over an hour. Note: The dry season and good weather only occur during winter. If you visit during the rainy season, the reservoir will be full, and you won't be able to walk around the lower areas. How to get there: Drive along Highway 11 (Lampang-Mae Mo) for about 40-50 km, which takes 45-60 minutes to reach Mae Mo district. Then turn onto the local roads within the subdistrict (e.g., Mae Mo subdistrict or near Mae Mo power plant). Follow the signs or ask locals for directions to Upper Huai King. The roads are paved and in good condition, though some sections are narrow and hilly. 🏔️
