The Aluvihare Rock Temple is a popular and impressive temple which you should visit if you are in Matale District. This landmark is far from the nearest city, you must arrange a private driver to get there. The recommended sightseeing time is between one to two hours. This may be one of the most interesting Buddhist temples I've ever visited. It's situated on top of a rock and consists of several buildings and caves with a stupa on the very top of the rock. There is no need to hire a guide, however, if you are into history and want to know more details of the art work then you might need one.
