2026 Mati Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in September)

When you hear the word Kalapyahan it means coastline and indeed the place is situated in a wonderful coastline of Dahican, Mati. Entrance fee is Php 150 and it is consummable. With your entrance fee, there is a wide variety of choices---from pasta, cakes, coffee, frappe, smoothies and fruit salad. You are not only having a good time with the view but as well as with the food.

Located just across the Subangan Museum of Mati and you'll get a very homey vibe and sumptuous food. Their best selling is their "suman and sikwati" duo for Php 55 (1 USD). They have a small function room that can hold about 40 people and you can rent the whole place for Php 5000 and mind you, it is consummable! Totally not bad at all. Fare going here from the bus terminal is Php 30.

Established in 2019, WAX is a Davao-based lifestyle brand paying homage to the surfers of the south. They are nestled in the outskirts of the city of mati, around 20 minutes ride from the city center. You will be welcomed by the gush of seabreeze, sound of waves and loud barks of dogs. the food and the view will not disappoint. if you want a perfect blend of a laid back resort living l ambiance and good food, waxsurf mati is the place to be.

Upon arrival at the resort, you will be accommodated by their staff which is a plus factor for me. During our stay, we enjoyed the place as well as the beach with big waves since this is facing the pacific ocean. Since this is a secluded place, clean water and electricity is limited. So the resort provided a generator and water tank a plus factor for me. Overall the place was so beautiful and relaxing. I can give them 8/10. #celebratewithtrip It was July when our Primary Leaders agreed to spend the weekend at Mati, Davao Oriental, Philippines. Our very generous host booked us here in Baliraya for an overnight stay. This is about an hour from the city proper. With the Open Sea View along with the Pujada Island on the other side, that was indeed captivating! We had our chill afternoon with a salty breeze coming from the Sea. Had our boodle fight dinner and a very memorable bonfire session with our Pastor. Baliraya is an exclusive resort cost around 12 thousand pesos good for 25-30 people. Parking Space can acccommodate 4-5 Cars depending on the size. they have 4 Closed Rooms and about 4 or 5 Open Area with beddings for you to sleep too. Like a an open tree house, a cottage and a like. #CelebrateWithTrip I decided to celebrate my first day of 2021 at Dahican Mati City! Thank God for friends who lives here so we have a lot more reason to visit! I was with Paul, Jake, Lorie and Rushel then, and Ate Langga met us at Lanes Beach Resort. After lunch we had our long beach line walk and enjoy the wonders of God by just sitting on the sand and watching the waves go back and forth. Indeed God is amazing! His works are awesome! I am always in awe of what he was doing and more so to what he can and about what he can do in the future! This beach is a MUST VISIT! This is a 3-hour drive from Davao City. One of the new hotel resorts in Mati that boasts of uninterrupted view of Pujada Island is Ok Hotel Resort Mati. It is strategically located along a cliff that gives you full view of the vast ocean and the splendid islands sorrounding Mati City. It has a three storey building filled with standard rooms and a huge pool where one can frolic with the waters. About a fifteen minute downhill hike is a pathway which leads you to a floating cottage. You can dive, fish,kayak and ride a boat from the cottage or you can just watch the sun rise from the horizon. Ok Hotel also accepts day visits, where you can just pay 200 pesos for the resort entrance.

there is a newly opened hole in the wall korean cafe in Mati City and it offers a wide array of Korean coffee and dishes. it is replete with all the kdrama aesthetic feels and it makes an interesting backdrop to your social media posts. Located just before the local state college, it is a perfect venue for an afternoon coffee or study spot for students. their menu boasts of korean dishes that you can most definitely see on kdrama movies and seryes such as korean chicken, teokbokki and the like. my favorite though is their spanish latte coffee as well as their cookie.their cookies are not too sweet a d it is sooo gooey which I really like with cookies! perfect!

Just before you reach the city you'll pass along beautiful seascape and this famous stop over spot. If you're into hiking you can actually go on a trail on top of the sleeping Dinosaur, if you're up to it! The view is really different when you stop over instead of just taking pics from a moving vehicle (last pics), so I suggest take a stop and enjoy the view! 😎#mountainview

After enjoying the day at the beach, indulge with the city's rich culture and history by visiting Mati city's Subangan museum. With only 50php entrance fee and no time limits you can feast your eyes with beautiful paintings and other interesting things inside (not so much from my collection of pictures). It's quite easy to find since it's located along the highway and about 10 minutes from the bus terminal. Enjoy your travels! 👣 #museum

Went there last Friday and stayed until afternoon of Sunday. I wish this place is closer to my hometown but it's 4 hours away by bus from Tagum city. If you plan to visit Dahican, I recommend checking 'Somewhere in Dahican' and/or La-ne's Kalapyahan, they have aesthetic ambiance and great food! This was a much needed beach break ❤️

Priding itself with about 2 kilometers of white sand beaches, Dahican is definitely a famous destination for tourists and locals alike. Along the beach you'll find resorts, swimming pools and restaurants that offer fresh caught seafood dishes which I definitely recommend. If you're into surfing, diving or snorkeling...you'd definitely enjoy it here! As I have mentioned from my previous Travel Moment post, one of my favorite Backpack Travel destination is Mati. You will know that you are indeed already in Mati when you stop over the highway and see the magnificent view of the "Sleeping Dinosaur". There are wonderful resorts in Mati but the best of them all is the long shoreline of white sands and great waves of Dahican. As you see on my photos, that's how blue Dahican is. Also, because of the great waves since it is fronting the pacific ocean, you can do surfing (actually it's not a surfing board they are using, it is the smaller version of it). You may ask a local to teach you the basic skill in surfing by paying 500pesos for 30 minutes.

I always love to do Backpack Travelling. And Mati was one of the easiest destination to backpack travelling. From Davao, you can ride a Van (which makes Mati for only 3-hours) or a bus (which is kinda longer trip that makes 5-hour trip to Mati). of course, you have to research the place because you want to make the most of your travel since you did not make prior reservations to all the rides you will be taking (Negotiations to the drivers and all). SUBANGAN museum is one of the go to place you have to visit when you will be in Mati. One good news is when you are a teacher, your ticket is free! Good thing we introduced ourselves as teachers in Davao. When you enter, you will be surprised with the bone structure of a sperm whale found dead on the shore of Mati Oriental that will wow you because it is a gigantic figure (see photo for the reference). when you go further, you will be introduced to the ethnic groups in Davao Oriental, their other beautiful spots(the caves and forests) and lastly their natural resources.
