Aloha, my recent experience at Luana for a special occasion was nothing short of incredible. My partner and I visited the lounge to celebrate his birthday. The atmosphere was delightful. The live music and hula set the mood for a classic sunset experience in paradise. Chef Royden was extremely attentive, he took time to chat with us about our preferences. His menu suggestions were spot on. Chef Pang stopped by for a quick visit. It made our experience that much more special. Mahalo Chef. The oysters were delicious, the poke bowl was to die for, the Kauai prawns were ‘oh so’ tasty… needless to say we love food and enjoyed every single bite. As local residents, it’s not always easy to find a great table and experience genuine and authentic Aloha. The people at Kea Lani truly embody the values of the islands, and it shows. We felt right at home. We finished our visit with an espresso martini at Ko bar. Nick was very engaged and helped us end our evening on a high note. We are still talking about the banana brown butter cake 2 weeks after the fact. Just a quick constructive note - Crystal our server at Luana forgot to drop waters after we requested twice. Being proactive in noticing empty glasses, instead of waiting for us to flag for attention could have been better. It was busy, we understand. This cruise trip was meaningful because it was my first time on it as an adult. I think the biggest advantage of a cruise is that you can eat dinner and lunch every day, and also see various cities! Also, the night views from the ship are really pretty, and there is a pool, so you can swim every day! There are many activities on the ship, so you can have a lot of experiences. Also, when you go to your room, different towel animals greet you every day! Don't you get tired of seeing the same shots and locations on Insta? How do capture the attention of an audience when a destination has been photographed so many times already? We see this happen all of the time. A location gets hot on social media and then your whole timeline is flooded with the same type of imagery. As a self-taught photographer/content creator, it's not easy being innovative in places that are popping on social media. We get sucked/tempted into wanting to recreate someone else's shot. It's always been a personal challenge of mine to at least try to capture a few images  in ways that I haven't seen before. Granted, there are some shots that can simply only be taken from one angle so it becomes a classic shot. Although I'll also take these classic shots, they are usually for me to see and not to post unless I can induce a different kind of mood through editing. For this shot, I literally tried doing my first DSLR selfie. After a few tries, I got one that looked like someone else took it. I brought the mood out in post-processing with Adobe Lightroom. The key for me is to never over-edit my work to the point where it looks clearly fake (i.e. the blues are too blue and the greens are too green). Hopefully as you scroll down your feed, this image will cause you stop, evoke some kind of emotion out of you and have your eyes refreshed by the time you scroll down to the next pic on your feed. #maui #hawaii #visithawaii #bambooforest #olivinepools

This was our second visit to Ka La’i LXR Waikiki Beach Hotel. On both occasions, we stayed here briefly after spending time at a different island resort, with this trip coming after our stay in Maui. Following Maui, we had a lot of laundry that needed cleaning, so my wife booked the room using Hilton free night certificates, which only apply to standard rooms. Before arriving, she communicated with a fantastic front desk representative, Alex, explained our situation, and requested a complimentary upgrade to a suite with a washer. Alex graciously fulfilled our request, and the room was truly outstanding with stunning views of Waikiki Beach. As experienced travelers, we understood an upgrade was likely since it was a weekday, for a short stay of two nights, and during a quieter period after the holiday rush of July 4th. Even so, Alex went above and beyond, ensuring our request was accommodated when it wouldn’t inconvenience the hotel, which must prioritize cash bookings over reward points. The warm hospitality extended beyond Alex, as everyone at the hotel exemplified generosity and professionalism. From the newly opened fine dining restaurant’s wait staff to the concierge desk team downtown, as well as the porters and cleaning staff—all contributed to a seamless stay. The cleaning staff even ensured our room was well-stocked daily with essentials like detergents, teas, and coffee. We will undoubtedly make this hotel an essential part of our planning for future trips to Hawaii. While upgrades like the one we received aren’t guaranteed or expected, the kindness and consideration shown by Alex and the team left a lasting impression and built our loyalty. We highly recommend this property for your next stay at Waikiki Beach.

Dadonghai is a bustling little tourism enclave nestled between the premium beaches of Haitang /Yalong and Sanya city. The Bay is a very popular retreat for tourists wanting proximity to the city without the feel of it..Accomodation offerings are abundant with three or four five star global chains including the Marriott (where we stayed) and Ascott . While the Intercontinental and Hyatt resorts arent in the Bay its self they are worth mentioning. This location is quite unique in that a long solid seawall extends across the Western point of the Bay to provide bathers with comfortable swimming environs through reduced swell activity. The beach itsself is impressive, large, white sand and well contoured for ingress/egress. There are several safety swimming enclosures netted in from the current. We took a leisurely stroll along the waterfront and soaked up the atmosphere. beach recliners are readily available to relax amongst the throngs of souvenir sellers, activity attendants and of course the.... tourists! This was our second trip to Dadonghai. The vibe is quite unique.I am well travelled so I know my hot spots..A hint of Maui/ Waikiki Hawaii with the flora , coral/rocky shoals and jagged coastal shoreline. The palm trees also seem to be on holiday and sit blissfully beachside swaying themselves in motion with the gentle breeze..Yes anything Dadonghai has a really gentle vibe about it. No matter how busy or crowded it gets you always feel very relaxed. Our walk took us towards the Marriott or East end of the Bay where we dropped ourselves cosily onto a bar sofa and enjoyed a quiet and refreshing beverage while we watched The Bay do its thing! If you like seafood there is no shortage of restaurants with freshly caught sea creatures in tanks ready for your plate. Our visit co incided with a taekwando martial arts tournament. We watched and cheered on as very talented youngsters executed precision flying kicks I only wish I had that sort of agility! A quick stop at the fruit shop one street back from the beach allowed us to collect a few delicious local picks and it then it was back to the Marriott for the seaside buffett dinner which is excellent by the way...

I drove the Hana Highway (Hwy 360) from Paʻia at 6:30 am—52 miles, 620 curves, 59 bridges, 2.5–3h one way if you stop. In 2026 Waiʻānapanapa State Park requires a timed entry reservation ($30 per vehicle incl. park entry, booked online, 3-hour slots; no walk-up).I took the 7–10 am slot, parked, and walked the 0.5 mi path to the black sand beach (Honokalani)—basalt grains, a sea arch, freshwater caves (no swimming after heavy rain, bacteria warnings). The highway itself: Twin Falls (mile 2, $10 lot), Garden of Eden (mile 10, $20 entry, skip), Wailua Falls (mile 45, free roadside). Hāna town has a $12 banana bread loaf worth it. Mistake: I didn’t reserve Waiʻānapanapa and got turned away at 11 am—summer slots sell out 2 weeks out. Another mistake: driving back the same day in the dark; the curves eastbound at dusk are deer-and-fog risky, so I slept in Hāna (room $280) and returned next morning. Worth it? The highway is the experience—waterfalls, bamboo, jungle walls—but the black sand beach is the payoff and the $30 reservation is annoying yet necessary. If you hate curves, skip Hana and do the west coast. Discussion: is a $30 timed-entry black sand cove worth 6 hours of hairpin driving, or would you rather helicopter over it?

The Hana Highway (Rt 360) is 64 mi, 620 curves, 59 bridges from Kahului to Hana—I drove it at 7 am and still met tour vans. The headline stop is Waiʻānapanapa State Park near Paʻia-side mile 32: since 2023 it requires a timed entry reservation ($20 per vehicle, booked online, 3-hour slot, license plate logged) and the black sand beach (Honokalani) is a short path from the lot. Mistake I made: I tried to do Grey as a day trip from Puerto Natales by bus+catamaran and back same day—doable but rushed, and I missed the Paine Grande→Grey boat (separate CLP 75,000 return) which gets you to the ice face. Another error: wearing trail runners instead of stiff boots—the gravel section chewed my ankles. Worth it? Yes, but only if you accept that the W Trek (4–5 days) is the real experience and a day hike is a teaser. The Pehoé viewpoint alone, 10 minutes off the Paine Grande dock, is free once you’re in the park and rivals anything on the W. Question: is a $49 park fee plus $35 boat justified for one day of wind and ice, or should first-timers commit to the full W and skip the sampler?

During my trip to Maui, I spent most of my time at the Four Seasons Resort Wailea. The beach is very sunny at midday, so it's recommended to take photos in the morning or evening. If you want to photograph the sunset, arrive 30 minutes early to find a good spot. It's best to make reservations for beachfront dining in advance. You can continue to use the pool and shower facilities on the day of check-out, so don't rush your itinerary.

Arrived early and checked in immediately, which was very convenient after our early flight from Maui. Our room exceeded expectations, offering plenty of space to relax and stunning views of Waikiki Beach. Watching surfers from morning to evening was such a treat. Celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary here, we appreciated the easy pool and beach access—just 50 meters from our room—and the proximity to restaurants and shopping out the front door. The Pearl Harbor tour and Waikiki Trolley ride along the coast were incredible. Thank you, Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, for making our anniversary unforgettable.
