2026 Mayrhofen Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in August)

Many people travel to Mayrhofen in Austria specifically for the Instagram-famous bridge. Initially, we planned to visit it as well, but due to snowfall the day before, the hiking trail to the bridge was in poor condition and involved steep climbs. For safety reasons, the hotel owner advised us against going there and instead recommended a hiking trail she personally loves: Gasthaus Wasserfall. This trail is located 9.5 kilometers south of Mayrhofen town along a small road (this stretch can also be hiked, though it involves significant elevation gain). The trail spans approximately 8 kilometers from the reservoir to the foot of the snow-capped mountains, passing through reservoirs, woodlands, and pastures. On the right side, there’s a hiking path along the creek, while the left side is a road suitable for driving or cycling. The route is short, gentle, well-maintained, and stunningly beautiful, with a very low difficulty level—perfect for families. At the 4-kilometer mark, there’s a small shop offering food and drinks, and their dark beer is particularly delicious.

The tour time is this year's National Day holiday. The photo was taken on 2025.10.4. The itinerary continues from the previous note. 🚗Driving Route: 10. 30 Sezisfjörze departs 11. 00-12:20 Eilstazi Supermarket shopping & lunch 14:00-14:30 Basalt Canyon 14:30-19:30 Drive all the way along the coastline to Stoke Point (see Bat Mountain) 20:00 Hoffin Strong winds are the norm in Iceland. On this day, the wind was so strong that many tour group trips were cancelled. Fortunately, we were all driving purely on this day and did not affect any plans. Stay the night before in the real daydreamer town of Sezisfjord, sleep until you wake up naturally and pull the curtains to see the harbor. The people were stunned by the wind at Rainbow Road and Blue Church and could only squat to keep steady and walk sideways. There are not many attractions in eastern Iceland, Basalt Canyon is one. The columnar joints formed by magma cooling are far more shocking than in the photos. We sped along the coastal road in southeastern Iceland, saw the most beautiful pink clouds, saw the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, saw the double-sided Bat Mountain, and finally arrived at another port town of Hofen in the twilight. !
