Menyuan Flower Fields (门源) - Qinghai
The Menyuan Flower Fields are a spectacular sight to see and is the largest rapeseed (canola) plantation in Northwestern China. The glorious fields spread out in every direction and stretch from the snow-capped mountains to the horizon. June-July is the best time to visit as this is when the flowers are in full blossom and snow still falls on the high mountain peaks creating a stunning contrast.
Getting There - Travel to the flower fields is possible by high-speed train or by car. When traveling from Xining city, the train takes around 30 minutes. The 3 hour journey by car from Xining is beautiful and takes you over a high mountain pass where it is possible to stop at a lookout point.
Food & Restaurants - There are many local restaurants in the nearby village. The local Muslim restaurants are highly recommended where you can fill yourself with sensational lamb (羊肉), potato dishes (土豆片) and noodles.
Shopping - Be sure to buy some local honey from one of the many roadside stalls. It is absolutely delicious and very fragrant.

Qinghai - Gangshika Snow Peak
📍Address: Gangshika Snow Peak is located in Menyuan Hui Autonomous County, Qinghai Province.
At an altitude of 5,254.5 meters, it is the highest peak in the eastern section of the Qilian Mountains. The peak is covered with snow all year round, shining like a jade dragon. It is also the highest mountain in Menyuan.
🚉Transportation:
Xining - Huzhu Tu Autonomous County - Beishan Forest Farm - Menyuan County - Shizui Town - Panpo Pass - Colorful Waterfall - Gangshika Snow Peak Base Camp (Er'tai) - Summit. It is about 200 km to Panpo Pass, but the scenery is beautiful.

Climbing Gangshika Snow Peak requires snow and ice skills, and there are many crevasses along the route. Climbers should be roped up and bring climbing equipment. Do not climb blindly. Departing from Xining, after less than 40 minutes of high-speed train travel, you will arrive at Menyuan Station. Besides the ones going to the county town, there is also a bus specifically heading to Yuanshan Flower Viewing Platform, which takes about 20 minutes.
In August, Menyuan feels like spring except for some sun around noon. The towering Qilian Mountains and vast fields of rapeseed flowers make this place look like a paradise. Due to a special affection for snow mountains, we took a taxi here. Taking the scenic area's shuttle bus, we slowly drove along the winding mountain road for about 20 minutes to the drop-off point. Unexpectedly, the strong wind here brought a biting chill, especially at the 3999 viewing platform. Walking up the gravel path, besides slight altitude sickness, the low temperature is the most troublesome issue. After getting off the bus, walking down the wooden plank road leads to the colorful ice waterfall. You can still see small-scale waterfalls now, and this area is also the most active area for tourists.
