Mexico 🇲🇽San Miguel
Mexico 🇲🇽San Miguel
Hello everyone!
Today I'd like to talk about San Miguel, Mexico.
San Miguel is about a two-hour train ride from Mexico City. You can also get there by bus. While Cancun is famous, San Miguel is also a popular tourist destination thanks to its colorful architecture!
It seems that locals hold weddings there and go there to take photos to celebrate their 15th birthdays (quinceaños).
Quinceanos means turning 15, and it's similar to the coming-of-age ceremony in Japan. Girls wear princess-like dresses and celebrate with friends and family. Boys wear suits and bow ties!
I stayed there for three days, and saw it every day.
Also, in the plaza, men were dressed in stylish clothes, hats, and performing music. Apparently, in the past, this was a way to express affection to someone they liked, but now it's enjoyed as a cultural tradition. My Mexican friend told me that the pay is pretty high!
There are also large walking dolls you can take photos with. They seem to be popular in Mexico. You can take photos with them if you pay a tip. Tipping in Mexico is quite high, at 15-20%. Like in the US, it's fine if you don't pay, but I've heard they'll make a face, so it's best to pay!
Speak primarily in Spanish. They understand English, but they'll reply in Spanish! It's Mexican Spanish.
It might be a good idea to practice some everyday Spanish.
A bit of promotion: I studied Spanish for four years at university. I also have a Spanish teaching license. I offer lessons on CafeTalk. If you're interested, please leave a comment! Private lessons are also available!!
Spanish is slightly different in Spain and every Latin American country. The same words have different meanings or aren't used at all. It's a bit like Japanese dialects, I guess.
San Miguel has hot springs. They're different from Japanese hot springs, but bathing suits are required and mixed-gender bathing is allowed. The price is about the same as Japanese hot springs, and you can enter by purchasing a ticket.
Everyone was using it like a swimming pool.
Mexican food is really delicious!
I don't like spicy food, so I said, "No puedo comer picante."
When I wanted to ask if something was spicy, I asked, "Is it spicy?" ("Es picante?").
"Sí." means yes. "No." means no.
I recommend Gorditas.
They're taco sandwiches with lots of fillings inside.
The drink called Azulito is also delicious, like a mix between a cocktail and a chuhai!
San Miguel is highly recommended! Please go and check it out!
