We just returned from Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana feeling relaxed and happy after another wonderful week at the resort. This was our third visit to the property, having stayed on both the Ziva and Zilara sides in the past. The property is stunning and meticulously clean. For this trip, we had a club-level swim-out room and decided to upgrade to oceanfront at check-in for a reasonable additional fee. The view was absolutely worth it! We made the most of all the pools at Ziva and Zilara, which were consistently clean and well-equipped with towels, bars, attentive staff, and plenty of lounge chairs. The food was consistently good across the dining options we tried. Our favorite spots included El Mercado buffet, Noodle and Thread, and Waves. We didn’t opt for the Blind Butcher experience, as we never have, but we loved the convenience of 24/7 room service for food, drinks, and even Gatorade. The staff at Hyatt Zilara and Ziva are truly exceptional. A special thank you to: · Jorge, our favorite manager at El Mercado, and Amado, the Activities Supervisor. We visited Royalton Chic from July 31 to August 7. This was our second time at the resort, with our first trip being in April 2025. Unfortunately, there was a significant amount of seaweed during this time of year. While the staff worked hard to clear it early every morning, which we appreciated, it still felt like a losing battle. The workers on the beach, however, were fantastic. We opted for the diamond club again, but chose a swim-out room this time, specifically room 3105. We loved the swim-out experience. The pool was monitored every morning at around 7 a.m. for salt and chlorine levels, and a staff member ensured the water was debris-free each day. The air conditioning worked exceptionally well—so much so that it started leaking through the ceiling. Despite our butler’s efforts to have it repaired twice, the issue persisted until our last day, by which point we weren’t overly concerned. Even with the leakage, our room remained cool throughout our stay. During our first visit in 2025, Ronald was our butler, and he did a phenomenal job. We reached out to him in June prior to our return, and he informed us via WhatsApp that he’d be off when we arrived but would arrange for his partner, G, to assist us. Ronald assured us that G would provide excellent service, and he wasn’t wrong. G was every bit as exceptional as Ronald. Both Ronald and G even stopped by during our stay to say hello and take photos with us. They genuinely care about the guests, and the resort would greatly benefit from promoting them to management roles in the future. Regarding the food, it wasn’t as good as we remembered from our previous visit, aside from breakfast and the steakhouse. Nonetheless, we didn’t go hungry. We attended a sales presentation this time, as we had done in April 2025. Back then, the presentation lasted an hour, and we received $200 toward an excursion to Saona Island, which was amazing. This time, however, the experience was disappointing. The American staff member hosting the presentation made an ignorant comment about Canada taking in Michigan as a province and generally wasn’t pleasant to deal with. To make matters worse, she didn’t give us any promised gift for our time. The concierge, Carlos, said he’d investigate the issue, but we never heard back. We recommend avoiding the sales presentation—it’s no longer worth the time. On a positive note, Ruth at the diamond club bar was outstanding, as she always is. She remembered me from April 2025, and one evening, she had my two tequilas waiting with a friendly smile before I even asked. Her attentiveness and warm demeanor added a special touch to our stay. In conclusion, Ronald, G, and Ruth truly exemplify exceptional service and are invaluable assets to Royalton Chic. They have a remarkable ability to make guests feel welcome and valued, and the management would be wise to involve them in leadership roles to enhance the resort experience further. Lastly, I want to highlight the hard work of the entire staff at Royalton Chic. They go above and beyond, and it’s important to show them the respect they deserve through kindness, gratitude, and tipping. If you can't afford to tip, you might want to reconsider visiting. Thank you again to Ronald, G, and Ruth for their incredible service. They easily earn a 5-star rating. As for the resort, I give it 4 stars overall, as it’s beginning to show its age.

We’re road-tripping Michigan this summer—hugging the lakeshore, then crossing the U.P.—and trying to keep stops short but memorable. Think stretch-the-legs walks, a quick overlook, a great treat, maybe a fast swim. What’s one stop you’d actually drive 30 minutes off route for, and exactly what you do there in under an hour? Bonus points if parking is easy and it’s not a total madhouse in July.

The mossy forest isn't the boardwalk—it's the 4-mi foot trail between upper and lower falls on the east bank, where yellow birch and cedar grow on old dune sand and the ground stays wet year-round. I wore trail-runners, regretted it after the first seep crossing; waterproof shoes or accept wet socks. Bugs in early August are war-grade—head net, DEET, permethrin pants.
