After riding the hilly slopes down from the redwood forest into downtown Mill Valley, I just wanted to find a spot to grab a coffee and chill. But the moment I wandered into the streets, I was absolutely blown away by the autumn scenery—the fall foliage here is just ridiculously gorgeous! ☕️ Bikes & the Scent of Coffee (Pic 2): Casually parked my bike in front of Equator Coffees, where the street corner was bustling with locals leisurely sipping coffee and chatting. Slowing down your pace is hands down the best way to experience this small town. 🕰 Time Stood Still at the Old Clock (Pic 3): Passed by the historic Mill Valley Clock (Volunteer Firemen's Memorial Clock) erected in 1929. Set against giant trees, a clear blue sky, and fluffy white clouds, it gives off a beautifully vintage and serene vibe. 💛 A Golden Feast in front of US Bank (Pics 4-5): This stunning golden tree (ginkgo) in the heart of downtown is completely stealing the show! Golden leaves blanket the brick plaza. Sitting under the tree reading or chatting, every breeze brings down a shower of golden rain—it's as picturesque as a movie scene. 🍁 An Explosion of Crimson Leaves on Lovell Street: Wandered onto Lovell Ave and was literally left speechless! The maple trees lining both sides of the street have all turned a fiery, unapologetic red! Looking Up (Pics 6-9): Gazing upwards, the layers of red leaves almost hide the sky. Paired with Northern California's crisp, bright blue skies, the color contrast is off the charts! Red Leaf Tunnel (Pics 1, 10): The whole street looks like it was painted with the most vibrant oil colors, with charming little houses peeking through the red foliage. Crunching through the fallen leaves on the ground made me want to scream with excitement! 🍂 Ramblings of a Traveler: If Old Mill Park is a quiet, awe-inspiring world of giant green trees, then the downtown streets are a wild, vibrant, and colorful fairytale. Leaving behind the salty breeze of the Golden Gate Bridge, we followed our bike rental shop's tip and rode all the way to Old Mill Park in Mill Valley. I initially thought it was just your average neighborhood park, but the moment we rolled in, it felt like we'd stumbled right into a magical wonderland surrounded by ancient giants! 🏃‍♂️ Wholesome Forest Moments (Pic 2): Right as we pulled up, we caught a local trail running event in action! We spotted a dad crossing the finish line with a huge smile, carrying his little girl in his left arm and holding his other kiddo's hand. It was the absolute sweetest sight—such a beautiful mix of fitness and everyday family life! 🌿 Taking it All In! A Blast of Fresh Air (Pic 3): Wandering deeper into the park, there's a babbling creek winding through the woods, completely blanketed in lush greenery. Taking a deep breath of that crisp, earthy redwood scent was all it took to wash away the exhaustion from our ride. Talk about a natural oxygen bar! 🌲 Gazing Up at the Redwood Giants (Pics 4-7): Looking up, the entire forest is packed with massive Coast Redwoods piercing the sky! Standing at the base of these trees makes you feel incredibly tiny. Staring up at the sky filtered through the dense canopy, the sheer awe you feel easily rivals Muir Woods—plus, it's so much more peaceful here without the massive tourist crowds. 🏡 Living Here Must Be Like Living in a Fairytale! (Pics 1, 8-9): The park is nestled right in a local residential neighborhood, and honestly, I'm so jealous! Adorable little houses are tucked away among towering trees and vibrant autumn foliage. With stone steps framed by a sea of purple flowers and streets dusted with fallen yellow leaves, every single step feels like you're walking through the pages of a storybook. 🚴‍♂️ The Ultimate Leg-Busting Climb (Pic 10): I have to admit, cycling around here is an intense workout! The area is full of insanely steep mountain roads with near 180-degree hairpin turns. My legs were basically turning to jelly pedaling up those hills. But coming around each bend to catch breathtaking views of this mountain town made all the sweat totally worth it! 🚴‍♂️ A Traveler's Two Cents: Huge shoutout to the bike shop owner for this insider recommendation! Even though grinding up those Mill Valley hills had me questioning my life choices, getting to see these hidden neighborhood redwoods and the fairytale-like town with my own eyes was incredible. Explore the natural environment of the northern San Francisco Bay Area. Mill Valley is a refreshing small town hidden in Marin County, just about a 40-minute drive from San Francisco. After exiting the 101 freeway, you will enter an extremely pristine forest landscape along a narrow road, especially on rainy days, with rows of oak trees, as if entering an ancient green passage. Mill Valley Library is nestled among redwood trees, with large floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the forest scenery outside, making it feel like stepping into a mysterious villa from a fairy tale. Pick up a book and sit by the window, especially on a mild winter day, and it feels particularly delightful. Behind the library is Old Mill Park, home to some carbon-green ocean-like redwood trees. This is the starting point of the Dipsea Trail, with the initial section consisting of alternating stone and wooden steps, following the river upwards to reach a wide lawn. The latter part of the route is a forest path concentrated with redwood trees, with many small streams along the way, giving the feeling of being embraced by nature. This route is similar to Muir Woods but is free, does not require reservations, and has convenient parking, making it highly recommended. We found this amazing restaurant close by and couldn’t have been happier. @paseo_bistro was such a treat. 48-hr miso marinated cod, fresh oysters, signature craft cocktails, amazing service, and much more. We will definitely be back quite often!
