Monopoli is a small and clean town, mostly with white color buildings on the Apulia sea coast not fare from Bari, the principal airport of Puglia region in south east of Italy. It is beautiful to have a walk to the city Center, where you will see many beautiful antique buildings, blue boats on the coast and delicious seafood restaurants. beaches in Monopoli are extremely clean with transparent and cristalline water. Not so much to see for snorkelling, but beautiful to enjoy a day on the beach with incredible landscapes and a nice walk in the town. If you have a few days, you can of course do both. For a day to Alberobello and Locorotondo, you can take the bus from Bari, but you need to plan, as the buses only go a couple of times a day, so you need to ensure you don’t miss the last bus back. For a day visiting the coastal cities, from Bari, you can take the train along the coast to Monopoli and Polignano a Mare (the birthplace of the singer Domenico Modugno, famous for the song Nel Blu, Dipinto di Blu). As the home of burrata and the pasta shape orechiette, as well as famous wines such as primitivo and Negroamaro, this region is a feast for food and wine lovers. January is a great time to go when it’s a bit quieter, but still much warmer than more northern cities or countries. After getting off the train, I followed the navigation on my mobile phone, passed through Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, and walked about 15 minutes to reach the charming little harbor, Porto Antico. Unlike places like Cheung Chau in Hong Kong or Nan'ao in Shenzhen, this area is free from motor vehicles competing with pedestrians, street vendors causing disturbances, loud hawking or noise, flies buzzing around, fishy smells, or floating garbage near the shore. Instead, you can enjoy a view of the Castello Carlo V at the end of the harbor, see neatly arranged blue boats and uniquely docked fishing vessels, and take in the natural scenery of the sea blending seamlessly with the sky. Adding to the picturesque scene are the traditional white houses with Southern European architectural styles, orderly arranged and beautifully contrasted against the blue sky under the abundant sunlight, creating a scene reminiscent of a Western animated fishing village. Walking and taking photos in such a peaceful and culturally rich harbor is truly refreshing. A couple of days ago, I strolled through this lesser-known destination in the eyes of Asian tourists. I didn’t see visitors from regions outside Europe or America, which gave me a sense of relaxation and tranquility.

Two days ago, I visited Monopoli in southern Italy, where the weather was warmer compared to many Western European countries. With an average outdoor temperature of 29°C during the day and clear skies, this charming town was perfect for a leisurely stroll and some deep reflection. From Monopoli train station, I walked east for about 27 minutes, covering approximately 1,700 meters, and discovered a breathtaking beach with striking coastal erosion formations called Cala Cozze. Although the beach is not very large, the water is exceptionally clear, and the sand is fine and soft. Since there aren’t many tourists or tour groups here, it’s an ideal spot for photography and social media posts. Next to Cala Cozze beach, there’s a locally-run café where you can enjoy a cup of coffee while admiring the stunning sea and sky views. It’s a moment that truly feels like a celebration of life. A quick note: Monopoli has a relatively small population, so public buses are quite sparse. Make sure to reserve enough energy for the walk from the town center to Cala Cozze beach.

I have seen on the pictures it is worth a visit, but I did not expect this beautiful. If you are in Triest even if only for 1 day, this is a must. You can get here by bus (more frequently) or train as well. The garden is huge and super green (you can even see a secoia), and you can walk around the castle free of charge.
