I visited Morioka City for the very first time! 😊 I wondered where I should go in Morioka. After doing some research, I found that the Iwate Bank Red Brick Building is highly recommended, so I decided to check it out! Getting there was a breeze using the city loop bus called "Dendenmushi" from Morioka Station. It's super affordable at just 150 yen per ride (as of June 2026), which is fantastic! ✨ I hopped off at the "Morioka Bus Center" stop, and the Iwate Bank Red Brick Building was right there! Inside, the building is divided into free and paid zones. I was a bit short on time during this visit, so I stuck to the free zone. But even in the free area, as you can see in the photos, you get to step into the grand central hall and explore both the first and second floors! ☺️ It has such a classic, retro vibe. Both the exterior and interior of the building are absolutely stunning! It was designed by Kingo Tatsuno, famous for his work on the Tokyo Station building. (No wonder it looks a bit familiar!) This is definitely a must-see spot if you're visiting Morioka!!

I stayed at Shikitei in Tsunagi Onsen during my Morioka sightseeing trip, and it was such a relaxing inn ♨️ It's just under a 30-minute drive from Morioka Station, making it a super convenient spot to visit after a day of sightseeing ◎ There's also a bus available from Morioka directly to Tsunagi Onsen 🚌 With a limited number of rooms, the inn is very peaceful, and it gives off the vibe of a "hideaway for adults to relax." I highly recommend it for anyone looking to unwind in the hot springs 🌿 The room featured a calming traditional Japanese design, where I was able to just kick back and take it easy 🍵 The meals were meticulously prepared, and I loved being able to savor small portions of authentic Iwate cuisine ◎ Since I visited in March, I got to indulge in both crab and delicious meat 🦀 The hot spring itself has a serene, tranquil atmosphere, unlike those large, bustling family-oriented resorts. 📍Sakurayama Shrine, Morioka, Iwate Prefecture The massive weeping cherry tree blooming at Sakurayama Shrine. It's not overly crowded, so you can take your time admiring it, and it looks stunning in photos. It was so gorgeous that I stood there completely captivated for a while...😭🌸 I was actually just lining up for lunch nearby at the main branch of Pairon, famous for Morioka Jajamen, when the cherry blossoms at the shrine caught my eye. They were so beautiful I found myself drawn straight to them... Check-in Date: Saturday, November 1, 2025 This coincides with Japan's three-day holiday weekend and the autumn foliage season, so hotel prices in the entire Morioka area are quite high. I chose this hotel from my saved list, and although it was more expensive than during the off-season, I’m glad I made the right choice. The hotel is very new, offers 24-hour front desk service, and is conveniently located right across from JR Morioka Station. There’s also a Lawson convenience store on the ground floor of the hotel. The room is more spacious than typical business hotels. For those driving, parking is not an issue as there are three to four parking lots nearby. If you park in the adjacent lot, you can inform the hotel staff, and they will provide you with a discount voucher for parking. The hotel is situated in the busiest area of Morioka, with plenty of restaurants and shops, including those inside the station. The service is excellent, and overall, it’s a fantastic experience. 👍👍

#November Destinations 2025 About a 20-minute drive from Morioka Station, the Iwate Mountain Observatory, a free and spacious observation deck with ample parking, awaits visitors. It offers two viewing areas, providing a double experience. First, there's an accessible observation platform with a comfortable parking lot in front, and even a café offering specialty coffee and curry. The large glass windows offer excellent views, showcasing the distant mountain scenery. The Kashima Seiichi Memorial Observatory, about a three-minute walk away and requiring a climb up stairs, is less accessible for those with mobility issues, but its views are said to be superior, especially during the Morioka Fireworks Festival, where it's considered the best spot to watch the fireworks. Whichever platform you choose, the view is breathtaking. The majestic Mount Iwate and the beautiful Mount Himekami are clearly visible, with the Morioka cityscape appearing like a miniature model spread out beneath your feet. On the day of my visit, the weather was clear and visibility was excellent. The ridgelines of Mount Iwate stretched out beautifully, and I could even glimpse traces of a winter ski resort. The surrounding parks and poetry trails allowed visitors to experience Morioka's history and culture amidst the stunning scenery. The daytime views were already breathtaking, but the true magic of the Iwate Observatory unfolded at night. As the city lights illuminated the landscape, Morioka below transformed into a dazzling jewel-like nightscape, flawless. Even a quick visit to the permanent exhibitions is enough to immerse you in the experience, and an hour will fly by. While the location is slightly inconvenient—about a half-hour bus ride from Morioka city center—the huge free parking lot is a major advantage for those traveling by car. Tickets are affordable, and the staff are incredibly helpful. However, if you're a fan of Buddhist art, most items here are replicas; for the original pieces, it's recommended to visit Hiraizumi. Even better, the museum itself is like a large natural classroom. Outdoors, there are two important cultural heritage houses like the "Southern Curved House" to admire, as well as a beautiful and pleasant botanical garden and rock garden, making it perfect for a relaxing stroll along the forest trails after an intellectually stimulating indoor experience.

Visiting in winter offers a serene and desolate experience. A walk along the pond reveals a cool and refreshing atmosphere. Even with only bare branches remaining on the cherry trees, the expansive pond and the distant Mount Iwate still create a simple yet beautiful landscape. The biggest surprise in winter is the flocks of swans and waterbirds that inhabit this area, their elegant figures adding a rare touch of life to the bleak landscape. In summer, Takamatsu Pond is bustling with fireworks displays, while to witness the full bloom of cherry blossoms, a spring visit is necessary. No matter the season, Takamatsu Pond is a wonderful place to experience the everyday beauty of Morioka. Stepping inside, the elegant and exemplary Japanese architecture is breathtaking. The "Nanchangso" sign at the entrance, inscribed by Sengoku Nitobe, adds to its historical significance. Comfortable seating in the interior corridors invites visitors to linger and quietly admire the views outside. The residence also offers matcha and coffee services, adding to the relaxed atmosphere. It was even a filming location for the movie *March Comes in Like a Lion*. However, the true essence of Nanchangso lies in its beautiful Japanese garden, which is stunning in all seasons, especially in autumn. As I walked through the corridor, a breathtakingly beautiful autumn scene of reds and yellows unfolded before my eyes. The garden was exceptionally spacious, with autumn leaves casting stunning reflections on the pond's surface and the gleaming black wooden floors, creating a unique and captivating interplay of reality and illusion. I highly recommend visiting at night when the lights are on. The interplay of light and shadow on the water under the illumination of the red leaves was so moving that it brought tears to my eyes. Nanchang-so is not only a witness to history but also a visual feast. Although it's about a 25-minute walk from the south exit of Morioka Station and parking is limited, during peak autumn foliage season, I strongly suggest taking public transportation or walking to avoid parking problems. Don't forget to wear warm clothing and fully enjoy this century-old autumn romance!

#November Good Places 2025 It was a great experience to stay at the Richmond Hotel in Morioka for the first time in Northeast Japan! This high-end business inn is perfectly located right across from Morioka Station, which is extremely convenient, with even direct access to the Lawson convenience store downstairs. Once you step into the lobby, the friendly and courteous counter service staff proactively provide assistance to make the check-in process feel warmer. The room is also amazingly comfortable and spacious, even with two or three large suitcases spread out. The bathroom has a hot spring inn-like atmosphere, allowing you to relax thoroughly. What’s particularly worth mentioning is that the hotel’s breakfast is definitely a must-try highlight! The breakfast Buffet is well-deserved, with everything from Japanese to Western meals, fresh ingredients and full of care. Northeast-produced rice and fresh milk from plateau pastures are especially delicious. If you want to taste the local flavor, you can add a free order of specialty dishes such as Morioka cold noodles directly to the staff. This time I stayed in a high-rise room facing the station with excellent views. Railway fans will be excited to see the separation of the Tohoku Shinkansen and Akita Shinkansen up close with the unobstructed view of Morioka Station outside the window. Whether it’s the morning light or the romantic lights overlooking the station at night, they all add wonderful memories to the break. Overall, Richmond Hotel Morioka Ekimae has excellent CP value.
