2024 Motuo Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
Today's Weather
Cloudy 8-17℃
I finally realized that the stamina of leaving Medog is greater than falling out of love.
The first time I learned about Medog was in Baby Annie's "Lotus"📖. This is also the hometown of Zhang Qiling. As the last county in China with access to roads🛣️, it is mysterious, pure, and a pure land transformed into the human world, which has always attracted me deeply. .
Passing through the Galongla Tunnel🚇, it feels like you have entered another world. The altitude dropped by more than 3,000 meters. After passing through heavy clouds and fog☁️, you finally arrived at the secret land of lotus🪷. Here you will find dense vegetation and endless water flow💦, spanning the cold zone, temperate zone, Subtropical plants 🌳 can meet in the same sky in spring, summer, autumn and winter. There is only one Medog in the world, but Medog owns the whole world.
🗺️Two-day itinerary for Medog
Day ❶ Bomi → Galong La Tunnel → Galung Waterfall → Yarlung Zangbo River Linda Turn → Mirage Observation Deck → Rinqing Collapse Temple → Fructose Candy Turn → Green Village
Day ❷ Drive along the Zhamo Highway on the return journey, stopping and stopping by car along the way
🔍In addition to Jialong Falls, there are various large and small waterfalls, streams, and lakes along the Medog Highway. The most beautiful scenery must be on the road!
🔍There are so many turns in the Yarlung Zangbo River. As soon as you enter Medog, you will be the first to see the turning point of the Yarlung Zangbo River. The river is rushing endlessly. It is still very spectacular👍
🔍Guoguotang Big Turn, standing on the observation deck, you can overlook the 180° big turn of the Brahmaputra River. The rare landscape is breathtaking. You need to take the local shuttle bus to get there.
🔍Mirage☁️, overlooking the mist-shrouded Medog County and the Brahmaputra River, continue up the mountain to Rinqingbeng Temple
🔍In Green Village, go up to the Lotus Observation Deck🪷 overlooking the organic tea fields in the mountains. When the weather is good, you may also have the opportunity to see Namjagbarwa Peak🏔️Golden Mountain under the sun🌄. At night, you can set up a tent and watch the sky full of stars✨. If you stay for a long time, you can also You can ask a guide to hike to find the Bhutanese pine🌲
📝Be sure to know these things before setting off
🪪Be sure to apply for a border defense permit in advance when going to Medog County
⚠️Medog Highway currently stipulates double entry and single exit, that is, you can only enter on even days, and you can only go out on odd days.
⛔️Zhamo Highway is closed to traffic after 20:00 pm
🚘It is recommended to use an off-road vehicle for self-driving, but commercial vehicles or sedans are basically fine too

Travel everywhere with your skateboards
The world is full of breathtaking sights that leave us in awe of nature's beauty and human creativity. Among these sights are the Eiffel Tower, the Himalayas, the Fuji Mountain, and the Statue of Liberty. Each of these iconic landmarks has a unique story, and their pictures are a testament to their magnificence.
Let's start with the Eiffel Tower, which is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. The tower stands tall at 324 meters, and its wrought-iron lattice design is a marvel of engineering. The tower is a symbol of love and romance, and its pictures evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing.
Moving on to the Himalayas, these majestic mountains are a sight to behold. The Himalayas are the highest mountain range in the world, and their snow-capped peaks and rugged terrain are a testament to the power of nature.
Next, we have the Fuji Mountain, which is a symbol of Japan's cultural heritage. The mountain is an active volcano and stands at 3,776 meters, making it the highest peak in Japan.
Finally, we have the Statue of Liberty, which is a symbol of freedom and democracy. The statue stands at 93 meters, and its copper exterior has turned green over time, giving it a unique patina. Pictures of the Statue of Liberty capture the statue's grandeur and the beauty of its surroundings.
How much do you know about Medog? Medog - China's first trekking line, with a length of 78 kilometers, generally takes 3 days to climb over 4,200 meters above sea level, and passes through the dense grassland area. There is great uncertainty in dealing with landslides and mudslides at any time. Known as the top of China's top ten hiking trails, it attracts many hikers. Liu Zhanting of the Qing Dynasty once commented that the forest is filled with thousands of miles and flowers and trees. The vine is a bridge, and it is a paradise. The "Book of the Tripitaka" reads: "The pure land of the Buddha is the white horse, the most outstanding among the holy places." Therefore, Medog was regarded as a Buddhist victory in Buddhism.

Traveling in Tibet: Medog
Medog, the last county in China to be connected by road, is 115 km from Bomi. The road is narrow and in poor condition, and it takes 5 hours and 30 minutes to drive there. The road is difficult, but you must go. After traveling over mountains and rivers, don't let your heart be filled with regret.
Motuo Secret Tracking.
Motuo Secret Tracking, pick up people tomorrow
Nyingchi to Motuo, popularize transportation
Double in and single out, there are generally two ways to get in and out: shuttle bus and carpool
1. Shuttle bus: First of all, due to road conditions and weather reasons, the shuttle bus to Motuo will sometimes be suspended, and the time to resume operation is uncertain; secondly, you have to wait for the bus to arrive at the station before selling tickets; finally, you can buy tickets for the same day, not the next day. (I bought the ticket from Nyingchi to Bomi the day before, and the passenger station did not sell it)
1. Nyingchi-Motuo: about 182 yuan (there seems to be only one bus a day, around seven or eight in the morning)
2. Nyingchi-Bomi-Motuo: Nyingchi-Bomi 142 yuan (many shifts, rolling departure)
Bomi-Motuo 63 yuan
2. Carpool:
1. Nyingchi-Motuo: generally 300, 50 more expensive to come back
2. Bomi-Motuo: 200 for round trip
These two methods can be used as a reference, because both Motuo and Bomi are mountain roads, and the road conditions are not necessarily good. When we entered Motuo, the road was blocked for two hours. And each scenic spot is far apart, and taxis may not take orders. My suggestion is to carpool, which is convenient for travel and can check in scenic spots on the road. And a good driver can take you to visit Motuo County for free, and keep driving you to the hotel to rest.
🔎Accommodation
The accommodation in Motuo County is more than three or four hundred, so it is more recommended to live in Gelin Village, where the price of homestays is unified, and you can buy lotus leaves inside, which is much lower than outside.
A journey through the four seasons in one day - a trip to Motuo.
I planned this trip in March, but only now remembered to write about it.
Starting from Bomi County at an altitude of over 2,000 meters, we took the winding mountain road to reach Gawalong Monastery at an altitude of 3,700 meters (it was cloudy when we arrived).
After passing through the Galongla Tunnel, the sky suddenly cleared up.
You will see snow-capped mountains and glaciers, and gradually descend along the Zhamo Highway.
Several different vegetation zones come into view.
We passed through several waterfalls along the way.
By the time we reached the Yarlung Zangbo River, we were already in the tropics.
There may be traffic jams (take the opportunity to take off your clothes).
We passed by a village where we could buy some local specialties.
Local specialties include bananas and big lemons (scientific name: citron), and dried big lemons are very good.
Motuo County is not big, and the climate is humid and comfortable.
To go to the Guogotang Big Bend, you need to buy a ticket and take a sightseeing bus.
On the return trip, you can sit at the back of the sightseeing bus, which gives you a feeling of traveling through a primeval forest.
Medog, Tibet - the other side of the world.
navigation:
Gawalong Scenic Area or Galong Temple, 100 meters away from Bomi County
22 kilometers, 40 minutes by car.
altitude:
At 4,300 meters, the vegetation is lush and there is basically no altitude sickness.
"Medog"
The last administrative county in China with access to roads, starting from Bomi
The 115-kilometer Zhamo Highway has two entrances and one exit. The road conditions are bad and the drive takes 5 hours and 30 minutes. The road is difficult, but you have to walk it. You have to walk through thousands of mountains and rivers, and you have to trek through mountains and rivers. Wherever your body can go, don't let your heart have regrets.
Tips:
1. The road from Bomi County to Galong Temple has beautiful scenery in autumn. You can drive slowly and take photos slowly. Galong Temple allows you to take pictures of the oppressive feeling of the snow-capped mountains.
2. The Galongla Tunnel implements traffic restrictions for entry with even numbers and exit with odd numbers, so please pay attention.
3. Gallong Temple is currently free, but a visitor center is being built and will soon become a paid scenic spot.
4. The border defense permit must be obtained in advance

Yuncheng Salt Lake: Uncovering The Chinese Dead Sea Secrets
#traveldiaries
Yuncheng Yanchi is located in the south of Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, at the northern foot of Zhongtiao Mountain.Yanchi is bordered by Qiligang and Shishiligang in Yuncheng City to the north, Zhongtiao Mountain to the south, Anyi to the east, and Jiezhou to the west. The salt pond is 20 to 35 kilometers long from east to west and 3 to 5 kilometers wide from north to south. It is surrounded by high ground and a low-lying shape in the middle. The total area is about 130 square kilometers. The surface of the pond is 320 meters above sea level and the water depth is 0.22 meters. It is a natural inland salt lake.
Yuncheng Salt Pond is rich in resources. In addition to salt and Glauber's salt, there are also magnesium sulfate, calcium sulfate, potassium, bromine, boron and other rare elements. The history of Yanchi can be traced back to the early spring and autumn, when the pond salt in Hedong was already very famous.During the Two Han Dynasties, salt officials were set up in Anyi County to manage salt industry affairs. The output of Hedong Salt Pond in the Song Dynasty reached 82.5 million catties.By the mid-1980s, the salt pond had an annual output of 30,000 tons of raw salt, and the annual chemical production capacity was 37,000 tons of alkali sulfide and 280,000 tons of anhydrous glauber's salt.
Because its salt content is similar to the “Dead Sea” in the Middle East, people can float without sinking in the water, so it is known as the “Dead Sea of China”. Yuncheng Salt Lake Scenic Area is located in the central area of Salt Lake Lake. It is a national 4A-level scenic area, integrating humanities, ecology, greenness and health.Relying on the unique salt lake resources, the scenic area has developed tourism projects such as “floating in the dead sea, black mud health, hot spring hydrotherapy, mineral salt physiotherapy, and salt spray to clear the lungs”.
The formation of Yuncheng Salt Pond can be traced back to the period of the tectonic movement of the Himalayas in the Cenozoic Era, and it has a history of about 50 million years.Due to the large-scale subsidence of the ground to the north of Zhongtiao Mountain, the original prototype of Yuncheng Basin and salt pond was formed. After long-term precipitation and evaporation, a natural salt lake has been formed.
Yuncheng Yanchi's unique geographical location and rich natural resources make it the largest lake in Shanxi Province, which has a profound impact on local economic development and cultural inheritance. From the legendary battle between the Yanhuang Alliance and Chi You in the “Zhuolu" near Yanchi, to the many legends of Yao, Shun, and Yu in the southern Jin Region, to the development and prosperity of the Xia, Shang, and San Dynasties in Hedong, Heluo, and Guanzhong regions, they are all within hundreds of miles of Hedong Yanchi.

Tibet Self-Drive Tour Guide | The best scenery in the secret land of Medog is all on the road
Before coming to Tibet, there was a mysterious place that always attracted me
That is the mysterious Medog
I've seen a lot of documentaries and guides
I really want to see it with my own eyes, so we came
🚗Self-drive route: 116 kilometers from Bomi to Medog
After passing through the Galongla Tunnel, it takes more than 3 hours to arrive
I originally thought that when we passed through the tunnel, we would see another primitive world, but it turned out to be a vast expanse of white
Because the fog was too thick, the visibility was less than 5 meters haha
After that, going downhill, we found that beyond the clouds indeed lies a forest canyon
There are several waterfalls, all with viewing platforms, and it's easy to park
And the best scenery is felt along this road experiencing the world-class highway drop of more than 3000 meters
🌳Because the surprise you're looking forward to might just be in front of you
Following the Medog road all the way down, the altitude gets lower and lower
We will see waterfalls, forests, canyons, lakes, villages
Finally arriving at Medog County, this county town that has everything
Main attractions:
✅Galongla Glacier, located just above the tunnel, surprisingly there is a green area under the glacier
✅Renqingbeng Monastery: Said to be the most popular temple in Medog, hidden in the subtropical jungle, unfortunately, we didn't go because of the heavy rain
✅Lotus Pavilion: The highest point in the county town, it is a museum for understanding the history and cultural heritage of Medog
✅Guoguotang Big Turn: The road is currently under construction 🚧, you need to buy a ticket for 60 and take a local's 🏍️ to get there, we didn't go either
✅Gelin Village: Also the best place to view the Namjagbarwa Peak! However, it's difficult to see during this season
In fact, in Medog, you can only see all the beautiful scenery within two days if you are extremely lucky 🍀, because the transportation is inconvenient and it's very hidden, there are many legends about this place!
We have regrets this time, and can only look forward to meeting again next time
‼️Self-drive tips:
·Bring your border pass and ID card
·Don't drive fast on narrow roads, often encountering large trucks
·Accommodation in Medog county town is relatively expensive, it's best to book in advance, there are many Sichuan restaurants, because there are many Sichuan people here
·Entry on even-numbered days and exit on odd-numbered days of the month
·The best route time should be from March to May
Tibet Self-Drive Tour Guide | From Ranwu Lake to the Secret Realm of Motuo in Tibet
After resting at Ranwu Lake in Baxoi
Our self-drive tour in Tibet continues
Driving for over 3 hours along National Highway 318 to reach Bomi County
Moving forward through the mountain roads, the road conditions are average
You may encounter road maintenance closures and so on
🏔️In Bomi, it is actually the closest place to Motuo
However, you must be well-prepared before going
Because of the saying 'There is only one Motuo in the world, and Motuo has the whole world', we were curious about what the real Motuo is like
So we came‼️
🛣️Navigate from Bomi and drive along the Motuo Highway
Although it's only 116 kilometers, it takes over 3 hours by car
Don't know how many mountains you have to go around to get there
It is said that Motuo is a place full of mystery and pristine natural scenery
You will have a deep understanding on the way there
It is also a very suitable route for self-driving tours🚗
🌳Aside from transportation, what we see is
Clouds and mist, primitive forests, waterfalls and lakes, ethnic minority villages, etc., everything is unknown and mysterious
So it attracts adventurers to explore
🏔️Scenery along the way:
▶️Along the way, we found a clearing to park, the snow mountains, canyons, and forests here are stunning, great for taking photos
▶️If the weather is good, you will also see 'Armor Mountain', because the top part near the summit is all made of slate rock layers. It is said that in April, May, or September, October, after some of the snow melts on the slate cliffs, from a distance it looks like the patterns on the armor worn by ancient warriors, hence the name Armor Mountain. When we passed by, the snow had mostly melted and we could vaguely see a bit
▶️Actually, on the way to Motuo, you can see many monkeys🐒, you can stop and feed them, they are not afraid of people
▶️Finally arriving at Motuo, the scenery of Motuo is greatly affected by the weather. June when we went is not the best viewing period, but what surprised us the most was that after going around so many mountains, the Motuo that was presented to us was actually a mature and complete county town with everything
‼️Key tips:
✅To go to Motuo, you need to apply for a border pass in advance, which can be done in Bomi County
✅Currently, Motuo is accessible by road, public transportation can first get to Linzhi or Bomi and then take a bus or chartered car to Motuo
✅Remember for self-driving, Motuo is entered on even-numbered days and exited on odd-numbered days
✅From Bomi to Motuo, the altitude will drop to 800 meters, you may experience oxygen intoxication
We will detail the specific Motuo strategy in our next article🔎
Challenging the limits, entering Medog, a secret realm on earth, truly as said, the 84th day of the self-driving tour around China
June 6, 2023, the 84th day of the self-driving tour around China, from Ranwu Town in Tibet to Medog County in Tibet, crossing the Galung La Snow Mountain. Medog, the last county in China to be connected by a highway, is also the most mysterious place in Tibet. Due to complex geological conditions, the Medog Highway is difficult to navigate and maintain, plagued by avalanches, landslides, and other natural disasters. Entry into Medog is allowed on even-numbered days, and exit on odd-numbered days.
The Medog Highway has been upgraded to G559, also known as the Zhamog Highway because it starts from Bomê Town. Although it is a national highway, geological disasters occur frequently, making each segment of the journey an adventure. Shortly after leaving Bomê Town, you will come to the Galung La Snow Mountain. The mountain marks the boundary between Medog and Bomê counties and is the confrontation zone between the warm and moist air from the Indian Ocean to the south and the cold air from the Tibetan Plateau to the north, with a highly variable climate that is daunting. The Galung La Glacier is an interweaving of ice and snow, a blend of cold and beauty. The glacier cascades down from the mountain top, forming huge icefalls. Passing through the Galung La Tunnel, you enter a winding downhill road, from the top of the glacier to the valley forest.
The Medog Highway, with its magnificent scenery and challenging terrain, is a fascinating route. The road, like a dragon, winds through rugged gorges and steep mountains. Amidst the mist, green mountains and clear waters appear intermittently, beautiful and mysterious. As the altitude decreases, the scenery of the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon unfolds in its entirety. Ancient trees tower into the sky, and numerous rivers of all sizes cross the road.
The Medog Highway is known for its unique and numerous waterfalls. The falls seem to descend from the sky, flowing straight down the mountainside like silver chains, sparkling in the sunlight, with a grandeur that seems to swallow mountains and rivers. The road is famous for its narrow lanes and many sharp turns, combining scenery with challenge. Perseverance and courage are the most touching footnotes to this road.
The Guoguotang Hairpin Bend is a hallmark of Medog, located in Dexing Township of Medog County. The Yarlung Tsangpo River rushes by here, forming a horseshoe-shaped bend. Like a dragon winding through the high mountain canyons, the bend is majestic. The ninety-degree turn is breathtaking, rivaling the grandeur of the Jinsha River Bend. Overlooking the Guoguotang Hairpin Bend from above can deeply shake one's soul.
The town of Medog County is perched halfway up the mountainside, with layers of green hills, a secluded paradise. You can arrange a visit to the Lotus Pavilion, to encounter the wonders of Medog. You can also climb high for a distant view and meet the most beautiful Yarlung Tsangpo River. At sunset, the mountain peaks are tinged with crimson, a blurry and ever-changing spectacle, indescribably magnificent. Finally, in the night, watch the town of Medog County reflected in the lake, intoxicated amidst the colorful lights.
Medog Guide|Visiting Zhang Qiling’s Hometown
There is only one Medog in the world, and Medog owns the whole world.
She is a border town on the border between my country and India.
It is the last small county in China with access to roads.
It is the only place in my country that has both plateau snow mountains and waterfalls.
Plateau vegetation and primeval forests, tropical rainforests🌲
She is the secret land of lotus, Modog, Tibet💯
📍Transportation! The best way is to drive yourself.
When entering Medog, you currently take the Medog Highway.
Private cars are now not allowed to pass on the Pimo Highway! So I went to Medog County.
Bomi is the only way to go. But there is no official car rental in Bomi🚗.
You can fly to Linzhi to rent a car, 💯
You can also rent a private car on the northeast side of Bomizamu Bridge🚗
It costs 900 yuan a day, so it’s best to travel by off-road vehicle!
There are also very few cars going there, which tests the driver’s courage!
Because there are many flooded roads that are very challenging for vehicles!
The amount of water in the floodway varies depending on the season and rainfall.
There are differences every day, so drive with caution!
⚠️Attention⚠️
When entering Medog, a single line is implemented, with double entry and single exit.
In other words, Bomi enters Medog on an even number date.
Return to Bomi by the original route with odd number and date.
The whole journey takes 3-4 hours with stops and starts, which is enough.
You must pass through the border checkpoint before 2pm!
⚠️Attention⚠️
To enter Medog, you need to use both the border defense permit and your ID card.
You can apply for a border defense permit in Bomi with your ID card.
You can also apply at the government affairs hall where you are registered before departure.
✅The best time to travel: April-May and September-October every year.
You can also go there in other seasons, but there will be problems with heavy rain and snow.
Be prepared before traveling!
✅Clothing index: Medog is about 1,100 meters above sea level and has a warm climate.
You need to bring thinner clothes.
✅About Medog
The tunnel from Bomi to Galongla is about 20 kilometers.
After passing the Galongla Tunnel, it's downhill all the way.
That is to say, entering Medog in the true sense. The most beautiful scenery is on the road,
The scenery along the way is not comparable to every scenic spot.
Cherish the feeling of being on the road.
It will allow you to experience the temperature changes throughout the year in these few hours.
From plateau snow-capped mountains to tropical rain forests, the scenery changes along the way.
You will be greatly surprised!
From the moment you set off, you have to give yourself to the scenery along the way!
Go enjoy it! ‼ ️‼ ️‼ ️
✅Tips
The altitude span of the Medog Highway is too large.
Friends with severe high fever should still drive carefully! Safety first!
✅Medog Check-in Scenic Area
Brahmaputra River Canyon, Guoguotang Big Bend, Internet celebrity Green Village,
Namjagbarwa, Liberation Bridge!
✅Accommodation: There are many hotels and B&Bs in Medog County and surrounding areas.
Don’t worry about accommodation, there are many places where you can camp.
It is worth noting that it is best to book a hotel in advance

Medog Travel Guide!!!
Tibet Medog | A must-visit lotus wonderland (with a 4-day and 3-night strategy)|||"There is only one Medog in the world, and Medog has the whole world."
🚗Four-day three-night itinerary recommendation
Day1: Bomi - Gawalong Snow World - Galongla Tunnel - Gang Spruce Forest - Medog - Lotus Park
Day2: Medog - Mirage - Renqingbeng Monastery - Renqingbeng Kora - Medog
Day3: Medog - Gelin Village - Piaomiao Tea Garden Viewpoint
Day4: Sunrise at Piaomiao Tea Garden Viewpoint - Derung Village, the first village on the border - Gelin Village - Guoguotang Big Bend - Medog Museum - Medog
❗️❗️❗️Medog currently has a double-entry single-exit system
That is, even-numbered days are for entering Medog, and odd-numbered days are for leaving Medog (the last time to enter Medog through Galongla Tunnel is 13:30, and the latest time to leave Medog town is 11:00, these two times are very important)
🏞️Attraction recommendations:
1️⃣Gawalong Snow World:
A scenic spot before entering the Galongla Tunnel, where the snow is thick, suitable for snowball fights, and you can also ride snowmobiles (100r for two laps), and it's a great place for taking photos📸
2️⃣Gang Spruce Forest
After exiting the Galongla Tunnel, the cedar trees look very beautiful after the snow, with snow-capped mountains🏔️ in the background, truly outshining Erbin (If it snows, it is recommended to leave Medog earlier to see the morning glow, the golden sunlight on the mountains, and the beautiful cedar trees)
3️⃣Mirage
You can see the Medog county town and a sea of clouds, "half in the human world, half in a fairyland," but remember to check the sunrise time, as the glow will be gone if you go too late
4️⃣Renqingbeng
Renqingbeng Monastery is currently under renovation and temporarily closed
The kora path is right next to the Renqingbeng Monastery on the plank road, follow it, and it takes about 2h to complete the whole journey. Most of the people doing the kora are Tibetan compatriots, and the scenery is also very good, with many sacred traces along the way, it is recommended to take a walk
5️⃣Piaomiao Tea Garden Viewpoint
You can photograph the golden sunlight on Mount Namjagbarwa🏔️, as well as see a sea of clouds, with hardly any tourists, and it's a shooting spot that hardly anyone knows about (Pay attention to the sunrise time on the second morning if you want to see the golden sunlight on Mount Namjagbarwa)
6️⃣Guoguotang Big Bend
No need to say much about this, it's very famous, but currently, due to road construction, to go to Guoguotang you can only walk after crossing the bridge, or ride a motorcycle with a villager, about 6km away
7️⃣Medog Museum
It's not big, and if you're quick, you can finish visiting in just over half an hour. It mainly introduces the customs of the Menba and Luoba ethnic groups, as well as the development history of Medog. The outdoor platform on the third floor also offers an overlook of the entire Medog county town
❗️❗️❗️Important notes:
1️⃣A border pass is required for Medog
2️⃣Self-drivers remember to bring anti-skid chains
3️⃣There are no chain hotels in Gelin Village, only homestays set up by local villagers, remember to book in advance
4️⃣Remember to do the Renqingbeng Kora clockwise
