Ever been somewhere where you never want to leave? This was Lombok for us. Lombok is an island in Indonesia next to Bali but i after seeing both Bali and Lombok, I would choose Lombok any day! There is so many beautiful waterfalls and beaches in Lombok and it is so affordable. We paid £138 a month for our stay in Mataram, Lombok. Although Mataram is the city of Lombok and not a tourist destination, we had such a great time! The locals are so nice and you can find drivers who will drive you to the other side of the island and wait to take you back at the end of the day. Lombok is 97% muslim so you will not find alcohol unless you’re in the touristy areas. Most restaurants in Mataram don’t offer alcohol with meals but you can buy it in shops if that’s fr you. We don’t really drink so wasn’t an issue for us. Every sunday there is Car Free Day which is where they close down the street for a few hours in the morning and there’s lots of food stalls and stuff to buy. There is also music and dancing! Board the public boat from the pier "Pelabuhan bangsal". 20,000 rupiah per person. Depart when the number of people is sufficient. Operating hours are 7:00-16:00. Getting There - Walk through the rice terrace and village to get here. A local guide will be useful. Attractions - Expect to see an underground waterfall and river of about 20 meters high. Your feet will get wet walking there as you have to go through the river to reach the waterfall and pool. Hotels - Tetebatu Rice Terrace Homestay is a small cottage overlooking the fields and within walking distance from the waterfall. During my 6-day stay in Komodo, I stayed at three hotels: Melora, Katamaran, and The Luxury Collection. Among them, Katamaran and Ayana belong to the second tier, with similar prices and locations, but Ayana is older, so I chose Katamaran. Katamaran opened in 2024, about ten minutes from the airport. The hotel is situated on a hill on Komodo Island, with mountains behind and the sea in front. The lobby offers an unobstructed magnificent sea view, and the service is warm, making it very popular among Chinese guests. The hotel features all sea view rooms. I booked a Deluxe Sea View Room, which is 45 square meters, square-shaped, and stylishly designed with a light luxury feel. However, it does not have a bathtub (only the Premier Sea View rooms do) nor a bidet. Overall, the amenities are on par with Kaiyue Shangcui. The bedding is super silky, absolutely love it [Kiss]. The standard huge sea view balcony truly exceeds expectations, elevating the room’s value by several levels. The hotel has three swimming pools and two restaurants. For dinner, I went to The Cliff on the 7th floor. Compared to restaurants in Lombok, both the design and dishes here were really lacking, very dull and uninspiring [Facepalm]. The breakfast on the 2nd floor was good, and the view was fantastic. The hotel offers various activities. I signed up for a sunrise hike, and I was the only one [Em]. A young guy took me hiking alone at 5:20 AM to a nearby hilltop. Although we didn’t see the sunrise, the entire harbor view was amazing and definitely worth it~ Tips: [😇] You can’t get a taxi in Komodo Grap; only motorbikes are available. The hotel’s car service costs 100K. 😘 Summary: Katamaran’s positioning is very precise and justifies its pricing. It’s not expensive, the hotel is very new, the service is good, and it has everything a resort hotel should have. Compared to Melora, it’s overall much better. Staying here really feels like a vacation, definitely worth a visit.
