Nagato travel guide and discussion

After leaving Shimonoseki, the journey through Yamaguchi Prefecture is filled with unforgettable scenery. The first stop is the breathtaking Tsunoshima Bridge, often regarded as one of Japan's most beautiful coastal drives. Stretching gracefully across emerald waters, the bridge offers spectacular views in every season. Nearby, the striking Motonosumi Shrine captivates visitors with its long procession of vivid red torii gates overlooking the dramatic Sea of Japan, creating one of the country's most iconic landscapes. As evening falls, the journey ends at Nagato Yumoto Onsen, one of Yamaguchi's oldest hot spring towns. During spring, the banks of the Otozure River are lined with fully blooming cherry blossoms, their soft pink reflections dancing across the flowing water. Traditional ryokans, wooden bridges, riverside paths, and soothing hot springs create a peaceful atmosphere that perfectly captures the beauty of a Japanese spring evening. 📍 Location: Nagato Yumoto Onsen, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan 🌸 Highlight: Historic riverside hot spring town surrounded by beautiful cherry blossoms ✨ Feature: Otozure River, full-bloom sakura, traditional ryokans, natural hot springs, scenic riverside walks, and tranquil mountain surroundings 🍃 Atmosphere: Relaxing, elegant, and wonderfully serene 📸 Best for: Cherry blossom photography, onsen stays, slow travel, and peaceful evening strolls 💡 Travel Tip: After sunset, take a leisurely walk along the illuminated riverside to enjoy the blossoms in a quieter, more magical setting. ✨ Signature feeling: Soaking in a hot spring before wandering beneath cherry blossoms reflected in the gentle waters of the Otozure River. Nagato Yumoto Onsen is where the warmth of the springs meets the fleeting beauty of spring. 🌸♨️✨

Ranked as one of Japan's top ten most beautiful scenic spots, Motonosumi Shrine boasts a unique and awe-inspiring visual charm, with its striking vermilion torii gates stretching all the way down to the magnificent ocean. Standing atop the rugged cliffs, the shrine exudes a profound sense of sacredness, and experiencing its extraordinary aura and beauty in person is truly unforgettable. However, its remote location makes public transportation highly inconvenient, meaning even a one-way trip demands a significant investment of time and energy. For travelers on a tight schedule or those looking to maximize their itinerary, dedicating a massive chunk of time specifically for this trip might not offer the best payoff. It’s a great stop if you're already driving past on a road trip, but if you're making a long, exhausting detour solely for this one attraction, you might want to allocate that time to more accessible destinations so a grueling commute doesn't ruin your vacation vibe.

A Journey to Nagato Yumoto Onsen: A Hidden Healing Oasis in the Valley Visiting Nagato Yumoto Onsen in Yamaguchi Prefecture was a truly unforgettable experience. This hot spring town, with a history of about six hundred years, is built along the Otozure River. The environment is serene and elegant, exuding a leisurely and warm atmosphere that is perfect for travelers looking to escape the hustle and bustle and relax their mind and body. The hot spring water is gentle and silky, leaving my skin feeling incredibly soft and completely washing away my fatigue. I especially enjoyed strolling along the riverbank at dusk. The hot spring street has been renovated to blend traditional and modern designs, with many stylish cafes, dessert shops, and variety stores, making for a very pleasant walk. The riverside footbaths are also a highlight—soaking your feet while taking in the views of the stream and mountains brings a deep sense of happiness. Regarding accommodation, the local hot spring inns offer meticulous and thoughtful service, and the Kaiseki cuisine is exquisite and delicious. It makes full use of local ingredients from Yamaguchi Prefecture, and you can taste the care in every dish. At night, the hot spring street is lit with soft lights, creating a romantic and enchanting atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and savor the peace. Overall, Nagato Yumoto Onsen is a hot spring destination that combines historical depth, natural beauty, and high-quality service. Whether it's a trip for couples, a family vacation, or a solo retreat, I highly recommend it. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Located on a cliff overlooking the Sea of Japan, Motonosumi Shrine features 123 red torii gates lined up in a breathtaking display. Recognized by CNN as one of the '31 Most Beautiful Places in Japan,' this shrine is situated in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The shrine is also home to a national natural monument known as 'Ryugu no Shiofuki' (Dragon Palace's Blowhole). Visitors are advised to be cautious and avoid falling. The shrine was built following a divine message from a white fox that appeared in the dreams of a local fisherman, wishing for abundant catches and maritime safety. The view of the 123 red torii gates from the 'Ryugu no Shiofuki' side is truly awe-inspiring. While summer to autumn, with its clear blue skies, is the recommended season to visit, the winter scenery with crashing white waves is equally captivating!

During my trip to Yamaguchi, I visited Yumoto Onsen in Nagato and was recommended a famous seafood restaurant nearby that often has long lines. So, I decided to check it out! 🙋♀️ I arrived 10 minutes before opening on a weekday, but the parking lot was already packed with cars. 😳 As rumored, the place is incredibly popular! ❣️ I waited about 40 minutes, but the service was quick once seated. ☺️ The signature dish is the "Seafood Bowl." ────────────── 🥢 Deluxe Bowl (Uni & Ikura) – 3,850 yen 🥢 Isaji Set Meal – 3,000 yen ────────────── The rice bowls are super filling! ❣️ The uni was delicious, but the ikura was especially impressive. Each piece had an amazing firmness, and the taste was absolutely sensational. 😳 The set meal came with tempura, sashimi, and roast beef. The sashimi, in particular, stood out with its large, fresh, and plump slices that had no fishy smell at all. 🐟 While neither dish is cheap, they were worth every yen, leaving me completely satisfied! ❣️ The restaurant also has a live fish tank, and the squid sashimi looked incredibly tempting too. 🦑 ────────────── Seasonal Cuisine Isaji 📍 1860-1 Misumi Shimo, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture ⏰ 11:30–14:00 / 17:30–21:00 (Closed: Wednesdays & alternate Tuesdays) 🅿️ Parking available (27 spaces)

My dear family, I recently discovered an amazing place, that is the legendary Thousand Torii Gates leading to the sea! 🌊 From a distance, the densely packed vermilion torii meander along the coastline, contrasting with the azure sea. The strong color contrast makes any shot look great. As you get closer, the sunlight shines through the gaps between the layers of torii, forming golden rays of light and shadows, as if you have entered a mysterious alien world. As you stroll through the cave, the sea breeze brings with it the unique scent of the sea. The wind chimes on the torii gate sway gently in the wind, and the crisp sounds seem to be telling an ancient story. At that moment, the hustle and bustle of the world are left behind. I heard that these torii were built by believers for the purpose of praying for blessings, and they carry countless good wishes. My dear children, coming here you can not only feel the perfect integration of nature and cultural landscape, but also gain peace of mind. Whether you are a photography enthusiast or a travel expert pursuing romance, this is a great check-in spot, so hurry up! #Tokyo Attractions

We visited Nagato Yumoto Onsen, a hot spring town recommended for those who want to enjoy both hot springs and walking around the hot spring town. Local residents and inns have started to work together to promote walking around the town. It was fun to visit for the first time in several years and see how much it has changed. KAI Nagato, which opened on March 12, 2020 as the 16th hotel in the KAI series developed by Hoshino Resorts, uses hot spring water for the open-air baths in the guest rooms, allowing you to spend a very elegant time. The large public bath has silky smooth water 💓 The water is rich in alkaline, similar to the ingredients in lotion, making it a 'beauty bath' ♨️. There are both hot and lukewarm baths, so you can soak for as long as you like 😊 The guest rooms feature Tokuchi washi paper and Hagi glass, and all the cups are made of Hagi ware. There were plenty of power outlets. You can enjoy free coffee in the salon, post-bath sake, natsumikan juice, and even self-serve all-you-can-eat ice cream ⭐️ Dinner is beautifully presented in a bucket, and the appearance is vibrant 😊 Breakfast is a Japanese set meal featuring ingredients from Yamaguchi. You can also enjoy activities like charcoal rubbing and fan painting. It was a fulfilling stay in Nagato♫ 📍Location: 2229-1 Fukawayumoto, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture 💰Price per person: 30,000 yen

Otani Sanso is a long-established inn located in Nagato, Yamaguchi! In front of the inn, there is a beautiful river and mountains, and it feels like a long-established inn surrounded by nature! The inn staff will greet you wearing pink kimonos! In the parking lot, there is a charging space for electric cars, and although it is not a high-speed charging station, you can fill it up in about 8 hours! Inside, there is a waterfall that gives off a very charming vibe, and the overall atmosphere is luxurious✨ There is also a large souvenir corner, and the bakery is particularly popular, and there was a lot of bread left by 10am! I stayed at Hoshino Resorts ˗ˏˋ KAI Nagato ˎˊ˗! As expected of KAI quality, I really enjoyed it✨ The activity at Nagato was calligraphy, where you grind ink with a red stone inkstone and write your favorite characters on a fan! It will be a great keepsake✨ And the food was very satisfying, with dishes made with Yamaguchi's specialty products such as yuzukichi and akameku, and we could compare sake including Dassai🤤 There is a river flowing in front of KAI, and you can take a walk there and enjoy Nagato to the fullest, including a foot bath! ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ▼Hoshino Resorts Kai Nagato 2229-1 Fukagawa Yumoto, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, 759-4103 ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ #777 #JapanTrip #RecommendJapan #Kai #HoshinoResorts #Trip#HotSpring#Gourmet #Trip #Trip2023#Yamaguchi#YamaguchiTrip#Resort#Ryokan#HotSpringTour#GirlsTrip #AccommodationReport

I like ❤️ going to Japan🇯🇵 in addition to walking more because of its environment There are special attractions worth visiting in different places🤫 For example, the Motosumi Shrine in Nagato City ⛩️ There are no attractions nearby We really went by car for him😎 As early as 2015 it has been selected as one of the most beautiful 31 scenery in the United States CNN Japan 🥹 so its stunning scenery is recognized by the world 👍🏻 Motosumi Inari Shrine is located on the edge of the cliff 😍 This becomes its special feature The shrine originated around 1955!! ️ Compared to many shrines it has a short history A local fisherman dreamed of a white fox and the white fox asked him to build a shrine dedicated to himself, so there was Motosumi Inari Shrine⛩️ The deity enshrined here is divided by Taiko Valley Inari Shrine🙈 I hope it can protect traffic safety and business prosperity, etc.😆 We have seen many Japanese themselves As soon as you get off the car, you can see the symbol of this shrine 😍 the red torii tunnel🤫 There are a total of 123 torii gates here🥹 It took a total of 10 years to build!! ️ Walking in is like being in a wonderland👀👀 It's fantastic and great for taking pictures Go to the torii located at the exit 👍🏻 visitors upward 👆🏻 can feel the beauty of Motosumi Inari Shrine !! ️The reason why it is so popular is not only because of the beautiful coastal views ❤️ is because its incense money box helps 😎 Generally shrines will put incense money box in front of the main hall but here the incense money box is even placed above the torii 😆 So if you want to throw into the incense it must be upwards 😂 there are many people for it and come The incense money box is located at an altitude of about 5 meters and its volume is very small 😅😅 For us it is very difficult to invest 😆 So we say if the incense money invested into it will definitely come true 🤫 Because the chance is really small If you take public transportation to Gennosumi Inari Shrine like we do, it's actually really more difficult 😅 to change taxis 🥹 at the train station 🥹 the price is not cheap So if you can I quite recommend you drive 😍 because this attraction is really worth seeing #Japan Must-See Photo Spots #Parent-Child Holiday Good Places #Couples Good Places #Overseas Travel #Weekend Trip #Japanese Food #Food Guide #Japan Travel #Japan Travel #Japan Attractions #Parent-Child Activity

This shrine that is different from other shrines in terms of no large buildings is located in Yamaguchi. Here it can be seen there is a tunnel with 123 torii gates to the sea of Japan. In the top and bottom, there are big torii gates. It can be seen in the photo . there is a box on the top of the big torii. It is said that if you can get your coin into the box, your wish will come true. I tried but couldn't do it. I hope you can do it☺️ Good luck ✨ #tripmoments #temple #tripblazers #spooktaculartrip #awesomepic #mytripvlog #summervacation

The red torii gates stand tall from the mountains to the sea. This is Motonosumi Inari Shire Yamaguchi, another must-see tourist spot if you visit Yamaguchi. This seaside shrine is beautiful and it is believed that those who come to pray will be successful in money, fortune, and safe travels. Another highlight here is the donation box located on the torii gate at the entrance to the shrine. Try tossing a coin. Whoever succeeds will have their wish fulfilled.

This shrine is famous for its red torii gates and is also known for its challenging offering box where you toss coins to make merit. Located in Nagano City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, this shrine faces the sea. The shrine offers a beautiful view of the rows of red torii gates, the clear sea, and the lush greenery. It is a place worth visiting at least once.

In 1955, a white fox appeared beside Hitoshi Okamura, a local fishing business owner. The fox asked, "Who do you think you should thank for your success in fishing?" After he explained his past, the fox said, "You must hold a ceremony on this land to please me!" This led Okamura to build the Motonosumi Inari Shrine. This is a shrine dedicated to the god of business prosperity, catching big fish, smooth sailing, successful marriages, protection of children, protection from evil and good luck, fortune and happiness, safe travels, academic progress and success in all things. The shrine grounds have a large torii gate about 6m high and an offering box at the top. It is said that visitors' wishes will come true if they can throw a coin into the box. Introducing the area around Yumoto Onsen 💁‍♀️ A hot spring town lined with old-fashioned inns and hotels around the Otozure River. Although it is called a hot spring town, there is no entertainment district in the area, so it is very quiet in a good way both day and night. There are several free foot baths in the area, so you can put on a yukata, take a walk, soak your feet in the bath, and relax, forgetting about your busy daily life (^^) #gw2022jp

Motonosumi Shrine in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture It is also a tourist spot in Yamaguchi Prefecture. This shrine is famous for its offering box, which is the highest in Japan and the hardest to enter. The vermilion torii gates are also famous. 123 of these were donated and are lined up over 100 meters from Ryugu. #Shrine #Western Japan #Yamaguchi Prefecture Tourism

Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. About an hour and a half by car from Shimonoseki. I visited Motonosumi Shrine⛩ . The torii gates that stretch all the way to the sea are so beautiful...! There are apparently 123 torii gates👀 The contrast with the deep blue Sea of Japan and the sky is fantastic. It felt like an entrance to another world... . . In fact, in 2015, it was chosen by CNN as one of the "Most Beautiful Places in Japan," and since then it has quietly become a hot topic, and is now a must-visit spot in Yamaguchi Prefecture☺️ . . When I went back and forth, it was quite a workout lol 🚶‍♀️ #photogenicspot

Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. There is a spectacular spot called Senjojiki on the coast of Nagato City!! Is it not that famous? There were few people there so I was able to take as many photos as I wanted😂 The ocean and mountains were in a panoramic view and it was a really beautiful view🥰🌼 #photogenicspot

Motonosumi Shrine in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture ⛩ I stopped by after crossing Tsunoshima Ohashi Bridge. It's surprisingly far away, so make sure you have plenty of time. I was simply blown away by the scenery. There were lots of red torii gates and a beach with exposed rocks. It seems that if you throw a 10 yen coin on the torii gate and it lands on you, you'll be lucky! I've tried many times, but I've never been able to get on it 😅 #freespot #shrine
