Vang Vieng's Airplane Mountain
Vang Vieng is perfect for ENFPs! Among Airplane Mountain, Motorbike Mountain, and White Horse Mountain, I chose the first one.
🏅Google Maps🗺️ Pha Honekham Viewpoint
It's on the same route as Blue Lagoon 1. There's a Y-shaped fork in the road, so be careful not to take the wrong turn. On the way, you'll pass Motorbike Mountain, which is more crowded and has a rest stop at the foot of the mountain.
After a turn, about five minutes later, you'll see a sign directing you to a small path. The road condition is poor. At the foot of the mountain, an elderly Lao woman will collect the entrance fee and guide you on where to start climbing.
About a third of the way up, you'll see the sign in photo 6. White Horse Mountain and Airplane Mountain split at a fork further up, and you can see one mountain from the other. If you're super fit, you can climb both, but for most people, one mountain is enough.
I recommend checking out the cave midway. The entrance is narrow, but inside it's a whole new world—very quiet, showcasing natural lava formations formed over millions of years. No water involved, but you'll need a flashlight🔦 as there are no lights.
At the summit, there's an unfinished King Kong statue. The small pavilion at the top is breezy and very comfortable. Be prepared for insects and sun exposure.
You can sit inside the airplane, but be cautious. The metal on the wings gets very hot, and the flight helmet adds to the immersive experience.

⚠️ Transportation options:
1. Hire a tuk-tuk 🛺 for a round trip from the town center, costing around 300,000 kip (about $10).
2. Rent a motorbike or electric scooter. At the Koi Fish Chinese Supermarket on the main street, rentals are 100,000 kip (about $3) if returned before 7 PM. The cautious owner will warn you about the poor road conditions. If you're not confident in your riding skills, think twice. Inspect the vehicle and helmet carefully and leave your passport as a deposit.
I asked the owner if a bicycle 🚲 was an option, and she outright denied it. And indeed, unless you're an athlete with great physical and mental endurance, cycling is not recommended. If you're looking for carpool buddies, you can wait at the supermarket. I was lucky to find a companion to go with.
⚠️ About the road conditions:
Compared to the road to Kuang Si Waterfall in Luang Prabang, this one is dustier, has more potholes, and is busier. It feels like it's designed to enhance the go-karting experience. New riders should avoid it. Starting from the main street, an electric scooter at a top speed of 50 km/h will take about 30-40 minutes to reach the mountain's base, considering you need to avoid other vehicles.
⚠️ About attire and gear:
Travel light. Wear non-slip shoes. Bright and vibrant clothing is recommended for better photos.
