Ever since, Nancy has been known as ‘the city with the golden gates’. Place Stanislas alone is worth a visit to Nancy. Together with Place de la Carrière, Place d’Alliance and the triumphal arch, it forms an 18th-century ensemble, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983. The aim of the major urban development programme carried out by Stanislaw, the last duke of Lorraine, was to link Nancy’s old (Ville Vieille) and new (Ville Neuve) towns.

📍Nancy, France 🎭 Saint-Nicholas Festival These past two days in Nancy have truly felt unreal. Walking the streets, it feels like I've stumbled into a parallel universe of Toy Story. Theaters from around the world perform on the streets of Nancy. Besides giant puppets, there are also street performances. Photo 5 shows the musicians in the wardrobe; open the closet and they will perform for you. Photo 6 is a mini circus where you can watch magic shows inside. Every few steps brings a new surprise 🎊 🎄The entire city participates in this festival. Squares, streets, building facades, all transformed into festive stages. Nancy’s Place Stanislas itself is a World Heritage site, praised by Hugo as the most beautiful square. 🗓 Parades and floats take place every year on December 6th for the Saint-Nicholas Festival, but the Christmas projections and Christmas market shown in the last photo run from November 21st until January 4th. 🗺️ Nancy is located east of Paris, about 1.5 to 2 hours by direct train.

Leaving behind the hustle of Paris' Gard du l'est station and heading East to Nancy, was never high on my travel plans before. Stepping out of the train station in Nancy reminded me of stepping back in time to the 30's you could easily imagine with some clever filming you could imagine the next Hollywood war biopick being shop in this town with it's beautiful old architecture and tricolours flying in the breeze. the food was amazing and the Christmas markets ment tempting food and wine was never far away. if you want some green spaces I would remend the grand park just off the square, there are museums for culture or a variety of high end shops. So something for everyone.
