A hidden gem with a quirky history
Century Theatre was originally designed and built approximately between 1948 and 1952, and I was advised that it is Britain’s oldest surviving travelling theatre.
It was moved to Keswick, Cumbria in the 1970s for a number of years before it was renovated and reassembled on a purpose-built site, adjoining the historic mine buildings of the former Snibston Colliery in Coalville, Leicestershire.
It reopened in 1997 and continues to be used in many various roles within the local community (and slightly further afield).
It hosts a number of shows and arts activities, including classic drama, live music, comedy, dance and films.
Definitely worth a visit
