I stopped by "Kakigoya Iiokaya Suisan" in Oarai, Ibaraki 🦪 Step inside, and you'll find a massive lineup of fresh seafood, including oysters, scallops, and fish! It's a really fun spot where you can hand-pick your favorite seafood and grill it right there on the spot. What instantly caught my eye were these massive oysters. Placing one on my tray and holding it up, I was blown away by the sheer size 😱 I’ve had my fair share of oysters in places like Hokkaido, but the ones here were incredibly large, meaty, and absolutely delicious ✨ We had just eaten shirasu (whitebait) bowls beforehand and were already pretty stuffed, so this time we decided to keep it light and just enjoy a few oysters. But looking around, I saw people grilling their hand-picked seafood on their tabletop grills... And it looked unbelievably good! "I wish we came with empty stomachs so we could pick out seafood and have a BBQ, too!" That’s how tempting it all looked. The whole experience is fantastic—from browsing and selecting your seafood to grilling and eating it fresh, a vibe you can only get at a market or a port town. The best part about this place isn't just eating seafood; it's the entire experience: choosing → grilling → enjoying ✨ We focused mainly on oysters this time, but on my next visit, I’m definitely coming hungry so I can pick out a variety of seafood and fully enjoy the BBQ experience! After enjoying Mount Tsukuba, we headed to Oarai the next morning. Our destination was "Oarai Town Fisheries Cooperative's Mom's Shop," located very close to Oarai Fishing Port. Upon arrival, there was a long line in front of the shop! This popular shop, directly managed by the Oarai Town Fisheries Cooperative, offers fresh seafood at reasonable prices. Since I love shirasu (whitebait), my main goal this time was, of course, raw shirasu. I ordered the two-color rice bowl set meal for 1,500 yen, which allows you to enjoy both raw and boiled shirasu at once. The translucent raw shirasu was fresh and had a smooth texture. It was also great to be able to compare it with the plump boiled shirasu. Mixing in the egg yolk in the middle created a different deliciousness. There was also raw shirasu sashimi. I was very satisfied with being able to enjoy so much raw shirasu. The menu includes raw shirasu (whitebait) rice bowls and boiled shirasu rice bowls, as well as seafood rice bowls and boiled fish, making it a great place to stop by when you want to eat seafood in Oarai. Here's information about Isosaki Shrine and Kamaiso-no-Torii in Ibaraki. The bus runs about once an hour, so you'll need to time it right. Since the torii is over the sea, it's especially beautiful when you go around sunset. There's a plum tree inside the temple, and it was beautiful when I went in late February when the plum blossoms were in bloom. I think the plum blossoms would have bloomed even more if I had gone a little later. It's not far from Oarai Aqua World, so I left just before Aqua World closed at 4 PM and visited Kamaiso-no-Torii. On the way from Nakaminato Station, crossing the Kaimon Bridge towards Ibaraki Aquarium, I stopped by these dessert shops. The staff were incredibly friendly, which made the experience even better. Abekawa Kiuchi They sell dango or grilled mochi for just 100 yen, topped with sweet sauce and soybean flour. As a foreigner, I couldn't quite catch the exact name of the shop or the dish. If anyone knows, please share! It was an affordable and incredibly delicious dessert. L'ibisco Hitachinaka They serve delicious gelato! I initially planned to buy just one, but they looked so tempting that I ended up getting two. I tried the chestnut and matcha flavors, and they were absolutely delightful.

This is Oarai Aqua World! They have a variety of animal programs and shows. I checked the schedule on the website and went, and it was so relaxing. Haha. It's great for young children, and it's also great for couples who love animals. The photos in front of the aquarium are beautiful. The blissful feeling after emerging from the chilly pool during this season is unmatched 🔥 (endorphins kicking in 🧠🧘♀️). After cooling off, I indulged in the sauna 🧖♀️. With self-pouring steam (self-löyly), the hot vapor enveloped me, instantly putting me in relaxation mode. The combination of cool and hot sensations brought both my body and mind into perfect harmony. With the outside temperature hovering around 10°C, I enjoyed a brief outdoor air bath before soaking in the neutral-temperature whirlpool bath. As I melted into the warm water, I experienced pure bliss. Post-sauna, I toasted with a Bintang beer. (It really felt like Bali here 🤣🌴) From the villa’s second-floor bedroom, you can see the ocean and even catch the sunrise from bed 🌅. Waking up early for a morning sauna was a delightful way to start the day.
