Ao Lakeside Cafe Hakuba วิวทะเลสาบร้อยล้าน
Ao Lakeside Cafe Hakuba: A lakeside cafe that captivated us from the first moment.
On this trip, we visited Ao Lakeside Cafe Hakuba, a modern glasshouse cafe by the lake. It exceeded our expectations by many times, especially since it had just snowed. The mountains, trees, and the lakeshore were covered in a soft, white blanket – like a scene from a winter drama series.
Looking out through the large glass windows from inside the cafe was pure bliss. The warm light inside contrasted beautifully with the snowy view outside, creating a cozy, resort-like atmosphere. Outside, the still lake reflected the snow-covered mountains in a stunning backdrop. Honestly, the photos were so beautiful they hardly needed any editing. What we loved most was the 180-degree panoramic view. You can even go outside to take more photos. If you're visiting Hakuba, don't forget to stop by this cafe!

🇯🇵Recommended accommodation on the eve of entering Tateyama Kurobe — Kurobe Kanko Hotel
If you go to Tateyama Kurobe from Omachi Hot Spring Village, it is recommended to stay there for one night to refresh yourself before going to see the beautiful scenery of Tateyama Kurobe. This Heibu Tourist Hotel is a good choice.
📍 Nagano Prefecture Omachi City Hei 2822
🚌 Transfer to bus from JR "Nagano" Station, about 1 hour and 20 minutes
The location of Kurobe Kanko Hotel is very good. Whether you take the bus from Nagano Station or the bus stop from Omachi Hot Spring Village to Tateyama Kurobe, it is only about a 3-minute walk away.
In addition, it has two hot springs. Before going to Tateyama Kurobe, you can soak and relax and prepare for your next trip. In addition, this hotel is also the only hotel in Omachi Jiuquan that offers a buffet dinner. Although the restaurant looks like a student canteen, the food is surprisingly good.
The most important thing is that the hotel can also arrange to send your temporarily unused luggage to the hotel on the other side of Tateyama Kurobe, so you don't have to carry heavy luggage when visiting Tateyama Kurobe and can travel more freely.

Ryokusuitei Keisui is located in Omachi, Nagano Prefecture.
Located in a corner of the Omachi Onsen hot spring resort, this hot spring inn lets you feel the tranquil nature.
The large communal bath has an open-air bath, which is fantastic.
As the area is famous for its water from the Alps, when you turn on the tap in your guest room, natural spring water comes out!

Local cuisine in an old house in Omachi, Nagano Prefecture
A shop in a retro shopping street in Omachi, Nagano
This shop makes use of an old house.
It's not a long-established restaurant,
but rather a new one.
The atmosphere is good and there is an exhibition space.
The steep stairs are the same as they were in the old days,
so it's a recommended shop for foreigners to feel like they're in old Japan.

I visited the Suntory Natural Water Northern Alps Shinano Forest Factory in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture! ⛰️✨
Surrounded by the magnificent nature of the Northern Alps, this factory boasts incredibly stylish facilities and a fantastic sense of openness.🌿
I was able to learn in a fun way how the Suntory Natural Water I drink every day is made over many years. The latest production line is truly impressive, and is sure to excite both adults and children! 👀🔍
And the best part is the tasting time after the tour! 🤤
Drinking cold natural water while enjoying the crisp air and the magnificent view of the Northern Alps felt even more delicious than usual! ✨

Siamity Update: The Lakeside Cafe that Blew Up on TikTok.
☕ Siamity Update: The lakeside cafe that blew up on TikTok — but the real-life view is way better than the videos!
📍 ao LAKESIDE CAFE by Lake Aoki, Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan
☁️ Slightly overcast skies with the Northern Alps as a stunning backdrop.
✨ Highlight:
ao Lakeside Cafe — Opened in 2024 and quickly went viral on TikTok and Instagram, becoming a massive hit and a must-visit check-in spot for Gen Z and millennials. The main draw is its waterfront terrace with over 50 seats, all offering unobstructed, sweeping views of Lake Aoki stretching right to the Northern Alps. Plus, a little-known secret: while you're just chilling and sipping your coffee, you might catch the local Oito Line train cruising right past the lake. It's one of Japan's most scenic railway routes, and you get a front-row seat without even leaving your table!
💬 Tip: The cafe opens at 8 AM, making it the perfect spot for a quiet breakfast before the crowds roll in. If you want to snap that picture-perfect shot of the train passing by the lake, be sure to check the Oito Line schedule before you go.

Mt. Tsubakuro Day Hike in Nagano Prefecture.
On 5/31/3026, I went on a day hike to Mt. Tsubakuro in Nagano Prefecture!
🕒 Round trip: 7.5 hours
🚶🏻♀️ Distance: 9.8 km
🗺️ Route: Nakabusa Onsen to Kassen Ridge (out-and-back)
In late May, there was still a bit of snow left near the summit, but I managed to climb it without needing crampons or chain spikes!
The views are absolutely breathtaking, offering a magnificent panorama of the Alps ☺️
It does take quite a bit of time for a day trip, but I highly recommend it for beginners who want to experience climbing the Alps ☆
The white sandy landscape is completely unique to this mountain, making it a place even seasoned hikers would want to visit over and over again!
Definitely give it a try 😇

Our First Hakuba Vacation Diary ❄️🏔️ I drew back the curtains early this morning and found the car completely covered in a thick layer of snow!
Although it was freezing cold, it was my first time manually shoveling snow, and it felt so special and exciting.
The best part was that the sun was shining brightly, making the snow sparkle.
Warmly bundled up, busy in the snow, I felt incredibly happy and content 🤍

Hot springs at the foot of the Northern Alps: a perfect summer retreat
Winding along the mountain road, the view from the window is of endless greenery 🌲. We arrived at Kai Alps in Ōmachi Onsen-kyo, nestled in the foothills of the Northern Alps. A ski resort in winter, a summer retreat.
♨️ In summer, soaking in the hot springs makes you sweat slightly. Looking up, you can see the lingering snow on the mountain peaks. The greenery is reflected in the hot spring water. Soaking in the hot spring, feeling the mountain breeze, and sipping a refreshing perilla apple cider vinegar drink brings coolness~
🎐 The building has a vintage feel, and the rooms are exceptionally quiet. The shadows of trees outside the floor-to-ceiling windows sway on the walls, decorated with paper-cut paintings, adding a touch of rustic charm.
🍘 A hearth is a specialty of Kai. We tried the local Oyaki (baked buns), and in the evening, a cup of warm sake 🍶, feeling the transmission of Shinshu culture.
Finding a quiet, cool place, looking at the mountains, soaking in the hot spring, and just daydreaming—perhaps this is the best way to spend summer.

Matsumoto boasts the unique charm of a Hokuriku city.
Matsumoto is a small city located in Nagano Prefecture. Despite its compact size, I found its amenities and transportation networks incredibly convenient. Most travelers crossing the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route from Toyama tend to spend the night at Omachi Onsenkyo or Matsumoto City! I chose Matsumoto—a quaint and beautiful city that may be small, but truly has it all. After dinner, I took a stroll to Matsumoto Castle. I had heard its illuminated reflection on the water was absolutely captivating, and sure enough, it lived up to the hype! Even though you can't climb up to the castle keep (Tenshukaku) at night, the flawless reflection was surreal and dreamlike. The row of detached single-family homes right in front of the castle looked like top-tier, incredibly expensive real estate—which totally makes sense! I only stayed in Matsumoto for one brief night. Early the next morning, I headed out for a hike in Kamikochi, returned to Matsumoto in the afternoon, and caught the Limited Express "Shinano" to Nagoya! Matsumoto is undoubtedly a city I will visit again. My trip this time was just too rushed!

Like stepping into a movie! A soothing getaway with a traditional sunken hearth and Oyaki at Hoshino Resorts "KAI Alps".
Located in Omachi Onsen-kyo, Nagano Prefecture, "KAI Alps" is an incredibly stylish inn where you can experience the rustic and nostalgic charm of the Shinshu countryside.
As you step inside, the first thing that catches your eye is the large *irori* (sunken hearth).
Listening to the crackling fire while enjoying savory, freshly roasted *oyaki* (stuffed dumplings) and hot sake is truly a blissful experience that lets you escape from everyday life.
The guest rooms are modern spaces adorned with traditional paper-cutting art, featuring large windows that offer stunning views of the changing seasons.
Especially in winter, the illuminated *kamakura* (snow huts) that appear in the courtyard create a purely magical scene!
The hot springs have a wonderful open-air feel, and enjoying ice cream while gazing up at the starry sky after a bath is an absolute luxury.
If you're looking for a heartwarming stay filled with meticulous attention to detail and exceptional hospitality, this is a must-visit destination.
🍃 Budget:
Approx. 35,000 - 50,000 JPY per person for a 1-night stay with 2 meals.
🍃 Complimentary Services (Local Delights):
Roasted *oyaki* by the hearth, local sake, and fresh apples are all generously provided and included in your room rate.
🍃 Access:
About a 15-minute bus ride from JR Omachi Station.
Since it's only about a 20-minute drive to the Hakuba area, we highly recommend combining your stay with some winter sports.

ao LAKESIDE CAFE.
ao LAKESIDE CAFE ☕️🌿
This cafe has such a great vibe! It's genuinely the perfect spot to kick back and relax. Located right by the lake, it offers a serene, natural feel with incredibly fresh air 🌿✨
The design is gorgeous—a perfect blend of minimalism and cozy warmth. It looks great from the outside, but stepping inside feels even more spacious, airy, and inviting. Whether you choose indoor or outdoor seating, you'll get to soak in the full view 📸
The menu features easy-going cafe bites, such as:
· ☕ Coffee / Latte: Beautiful latte art, great taste, and super smooth.
· 🌭 Hot Dog + French Fries: A perfectly sized combo that's fun to snack on.
· 🍗 Assorted fried snacks: Great for long, chill hangouts.
The food isn't fancy, but it's high quality, delicious, and perfectly matches the cafe's laid-back atmosphere.
The true highlight here is the view. Looking out over the water, mountains, and surrounding nature is incredibly relaxing. It’s an ideal place to slow down and enjoy some me-time, or to bring friends for a fantastic shared experience.
Summary:
This cafe isn't just about the coffee; its real selling point is the "vibe." A visit here feels like a total recharge. If you're visiting Nagano and looking for a chill spot with stunning views, I highly recommend this place! 💖

Queen of the Northern Alps: Spectacular Yari-ga-take Hiking!
Yari-ga-take (燕岳), a popular destination for beginners exploring the Northern Alps, is a majestic peak located in Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture, standing at an elevation of 2,763 meters. The summit area features a stunning contrast of white granite rock formations and lush green dwarf pines, earning it the nickname "Queen of the Northern Alps."
⛰️ Hiking Highlights and Scenic Spots
The "Kassen Ridge" trail leading from the trailhead at Nakabusa Onsen is considered one of Japan's three steepest climbs. However, the path is well-maintained and relatively easy to walk. Near the summit, hikers can marvel at unique rock formations like "Dolphin Rock" and "Glasses Rock," and may even encounter rock ptarmigans or the queen of alpine plants, "Komakusa."
⛰️ Rest Stop: Kassen-goya's Specialty
Located halfway between the trailhead and the summit, "Kassen-goya" is a popular rest spot for hikers. While its summer watermelon is famous, the warm "zenzai" (sweet red bean soup) is highly recommended for replenishing energy during the hike. Its perfect sweetness is a treat for tired bodies, offering a surprisingly high-quality taste for a mountain retreat.
⛰️ Access and the "Parking Lot Battle"
Parking near the trailhead at Nakabusa Onsen is extremely limited, and during peak season weekends, lots often fill up by midnight. For guaranteed access, it is strongly recommended to use the "Nakabusa Shared Bus" or taxis operating from JR Hotaka Station. Parking your car at public lots in Azumino City and switching to public transportation is the key to a smooth hiking plan.

My first experience skiing in the snow was super exciting! ⛷️
When it comes to the ultimate winter experience, Ōmachi City in Nagano, Japan, definitely deserves a mention! It's especially perfect for skiing and extreme sports enthusiasts. This time, I chose to stay at Yamanakakan (address: 19820-1 Taira). I originally just wanted to ski, but under the magnificent snow-capped mountains and blue skies, the experience was both thrilling and therapeutic – I couldn't stop playing!
Highlights of the Trip:
· Unbeatable snowscapes – snow-capped mountains and glaciers paired with sunshine and blue skies – a must-see!
· Abundant skiing resources in Ōmachi City, suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers.
· Mountain skiing – challenge your limits and experience a different kind of winter.
🏂Skiing Experience Guide
The skiing area is located near a famous ski resort in Ōmachi City. Whether snowboarding or skiing, the course layout is professional. Plus, the snow is fine and the slopes are diverse, maximizing the thrill! After experiencing it myself, I discovered that skiing isn't just about speed and skill; it also requires a lot of stamina. Everyone recommends warming up before you start!
Energy-saving tip: Don't underestimate Nagano's snow! The slopes are steep, and the snow is powdery and fluffy, so you'll get tired easily after skiing for a while. If you're a beginner like me, I suggest booking a basic lesson with an instructor to learn how to fall and protect yourself. For experienced skiers, try the on-piste ski trails to experience the grandeur of nature and push your limits.
🏨Accommodation Recommendation
Yamanakkakan was my first choice for accommodation this time. It's conveniently located very close to the ski resort. After skiing, a hot bath in the warm room is incredibly satisfying. The resort also serves authentic Japanese cuisine, especially the winter hot pot chicken hot pot, perfect for warming up after skiing!
Food Recommendations:
· The food at the Yamanakakan restaurant is plentiful and delicious; be sure to try their mountain vegetable tempura and miso hot pot.
· There are also many authentic eateries in the nearby Komachi area; try Shinshu soba noodles or simmered wild vegetables.
Practical Transportation Guide:
· Take the JR Oito Line from Nagano Station to Shinano-Omachi Station, then transfer to a bus for 10 minutes to reach Yamanakakan and the ski resort. Transportation is very convenient.
· If driving, be sure to wear snow tires or chains in winter as the roads are prone to snow accumulation.
Snow Play Tips:
1. Always wear snow goggles and sunscreen, as the snow reflects light strongly and can easily cause sunburn.
2. Remember to bring waterproof gloves and socks for warmth.
3. Photography tips: Wide-angle phones and GoPros are best suited for capturing stunning snow mountain views; don't forget to bring a tripod.
4. Ski resorts offer a full range of equipment rentals, so don't worry too much about luggage.
If you also love snow activities, be sure to try Hakuba Ski Resort and Omachi Ski Resort. Whether you're enjoying the thrill of speed or conquering magnificent snowfields, this place will get your adrenaline pumping!

Real experience at Kurobe Sun Valley Hotel
#黑部ダム #Omachi Hot Springs #Hakuba #Comfortable accommodation
Depart Tokyo and experience a four-hour drive to Omachi City.
Didn't do much searching beforehand, as the main purpose was to get into Hakuba for skiing
It turns out this is very close to Tateyama Kurobe
From the hotel, it takes about 30 minutes or so to reach the Hokkaido Ogen Ski Resort.
The hotel provides Japanese breakfast. (However, because I stayed three nights in a row, a similar breakfast was served three days in a row) It seemed a bit boring 🤣
There is not much choice of restaurants near the hotel, with a drive of probably 10 to 15 minutes or so to get to the city center, there will be a little more choice
However the hotel is indeed quite cozy, providing underfloor heating, and I stayed on the ground floor with small gardens attached. (However, it can’t be enjoyed because it’s considered snow season.)
If I had the chance to come around here again, maybe I would choose the same hotel.
Incidentally, the hotel does have a drying room, so if there are skis, shoes can be kept in the drying room. (Remember to ask the front desk for your keys.)
