After visiting Okinawa, I no longer feel the need to visit other tropical countries. I recently went on a 5-day, 4-night self-driving trip to Okinawa in early June. Although the time was not sufficient to explore everything, there are so many places worth visiting. This place truly caters to all types of travelers! I've noted the parking situation at each place I visited, hoping to help others plan their self-driving trips. 🗺【Itinerary】 Day 1: Naha City/Southern Area Senaga Island (Free Parking) - After picking up the car near the airport, we drove to Senaga Island. The white houses built along the hillside here give off a Greek and Italian vibe. There are restaurants offering cuisines from various countries, such as Turkish, American, and Mexican. It didn’t feel like Japan at all! We chose a steakhouse with a sea view, and the scenery was incredibly relaxing. Gyokusendo Cave (Free Parking) - About a 30-minute drive away, this natural wonder took tens of thousands of years to form. The underground stalactite cave boasts over a million stalactites. The serene and dimly lit cave is incredibly calming. Outside, there are various cultural exhibits showcasing Okinawan traditions, such as traditional instruments and glassblowing performances. Those interested in Okinawan culture might spend a long time here. (Note: Closing time is 4:00 PM, so plan your visit accordingly to avoid missing out on key attractions.) Initially, we planned to visit the DMM Aquarium afterward, but we were too tired and decided to postpone it to the next morning. Day 2: Northern Naha DMM Aquarium (Free Parking) - This is a new aquarium in Naha. Unlike traditional aquariums, the DMM Aquarium features semi-open shallow pools with simulated ocean waves and lighting effects, making you feel like you’re on a beach. In addition to marine life, there are land animal exhibits and limited feeding experiences. I tried feeding a sloth this time—it was so adorable, slowly reaching for a piece of carrot while hanging from a tree. Pokemon Center (Free Parking) - Located in Aeon Mall, the Pokemon Center needs no introduction! Although it’s not as large as the one in Osaka, it was enough for a fan like me to spend all my travel budget there! Nakagusuku Castle (Free Parking) - The ruins of the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom, located on a hill, offer panoramic views of the eastern and western regions. The stone-built ruins exude a strong sense of history. Shurijo Castle (Prefectural Paid Parking) - Unfortunately, the castle was previously damaged by fire, so we saw the reconstruction in progress. Side note: There are many adorable cats and ducks nearby. Day 3: Onna Village/American Village Blue Cave Diving (Parking provided by the diving company) - The most recommended activity! Diving in Okinawa is a must. Once underwater, you’ll see vibrant tropical fish that you’d only see in movies or games. If you’re not comfortable with scuba diving, snorkeling is also a great way to enjoy the stunning underwater scenery. Cape Zanpa Lighthouse (Free Parking) - One of the few lighthouses in Japan you can climb. From the top, you get a nearly 270-degree view of the ocean—absolutely breathtaking! American Village (Both free and paid parking available, but it gets crowded after sunset) - The most beautiful spot! This place feels like a parallel universe with American-style architecture and people from all over the world. It gets lively after sunset, with music playing everywhere, neon lights on the buildings reminiscent of 70s and 80s America, street performances, and fireworks. It’s a place you won’t want to leave. Day 4: Nago City Nago Pineapple Park (Free Parking) - A pineapple-themed botanical park, perfect for family activities. They also sell pineapple-related snacks and drinks—I regret not buying more! Churaumi Aquarium (Free Parking) - This is probably the most famous attraction in Okinawa besides Kokusai Street. While the overall experience was good, I found the DMM Aquarium’s presentation more innovative and interesting. Churaumi Aquarium is often crowded, making it hard to take good photos. Some exhibits require queuing, which can feel a bit overwhelming. Day 5: Northernmost Okinawa, Return Car in Naha Cape Hedo - The northernmost point of Okinawa, about 50 km from Nago City. If the weather and your energy allow, it’s a great spot to watch the sunrise. The eastern side is completely unobstructed, offering a clear view of the sun rising from the sea. Unfortunately, it was raining heavily during my visit, so I could only take a quick photo. I hope someone else gets to witness the sunrise there! 📍【Must-Visit Attractions】 1. Diving in Okinawa 🤿! The shallow, crystal-clear waters are stunning, filled with colorful tropical fish. I joined a scuba diving session with Umi Diving Company. The instructor was friendly, communicated in English, and helped me adapt to the underwater environment while taking photos. 2. Senaga Island - Close to the airport, the European-style architecture is perfect for photos. There are various restaurants, and you can watch planes take off and land. If you’re lucky, you might even see fighter jets. It’s a great first or last stop on your trip. 3. American Village - A must-visit place that you won’t want to leave. It has various restaurants, indoor amusement parks, and beautiful architecture for photos. It’s suitable for all ages. Note: It’s quieter during the day, so it’s best to visit around sunset. Restaurants require reservations, or you might find them fully booked. 🥘【Must-Try Food】 Okinawa Meat Shop, Nago City - A small Shabu Shabu restaurant. It’s a bit pricey, but the taste is excellent, and the portions are generous. The black wagyu beef and Agu pork are tender and flavorful. The staff patiently explains each dish and how to enjoy it. 🏠【Accommodation Recommendations】 1. Naha Water City - Within a 10-minute walk to Kokusai Street, it features an infinity rooftop pool. This time, we planned a five-day, four-night road trip, starting from the south, heading north to Kouri Island, and then slowly driving back to the bustling Kokusai Street. With the sea, sunshine, delicious food, and soothing blue waters, every stop was unforgettable. ⸻ 🏝 Day 1 Arrival in Naha, First Impressions of Okinawa's Sea and Breeze We arrived at Naha Airport in the afternoon, rented a car, and immediately headed to our first destination—Ryukyu Village. (Because we planned to go diving at the Blue Cave the next day, we stayed near Ryukyu Village), and we also made a detour to the magnificent Cape Zanpa. Standing before the white lighthouse, watching the endless waves crash against the rocky cliffs, the sunset casting its glow on the sea. (A 30-minute stop here is just right.) 🏠 Overnight: Around Ryukyu Village ⸻ 🌊 Day 2: Diving into the Blue Cave In the morning, we started with a fantastic café, enjoying coffee and the ocean view – a perfect start to the day. Then came the highlight – the Blue Cave Diving experience! Led by an instructor, we descended into the ocean, and the dreamlike "blue light" was truly an unforgettable sight. The activity ended around 2 PM. After showering and changing back at our guesthouse, we headed to the magnificent Manzamo. Standing on the cliff overlooking the waves and Elephant Trunk Rock, the blue of Okinawa is truly addictive. Dinner was at the super popular "Ryukyu no Gyū" restaurant. The beef was so tender it melted in your mouth – a beef lover's paradise! 🏠 Overnight Stay: Onna Village ⸻ 🐠 Day 3: Exploring the Beautiful Sea, Seeking Healing Scenery in the North Our first stop today was the must-see Churaumi Aquarium. Watching the enormous whale sharks swim before our eyes truly felt like time stood still. Next, we headed to Kouri Island. Crossing the magnificent Kouri Bridge, the endless expanse of gradient blue sea was breathtaking. For lunch, we chose the popular "Shrimp Wagon" restaurant. Enjoying fragrant garlic shrimp rice while feeling the sea breeze was pure bliss. In the evening, we drove south to American Village, a place with a distinctly American atmosphere. With its neon lights and shopping streets, it's incredibly lively at night. Every snapshot is a masterpiece of Okinawa style. 🏠 Overnight Stay: American Village ⸻ ☀️ Day 4: Free Time Stroll in American Village → Gyokusendo Cave Exploration → Go-Karting Thrill In the morning, we leisurely strolled around American Village, taking photos. The cafes and shops were all great for pictures. In the afternoon, we drove south to Gyokusendo Cave. Entering the cave, we saw spectacular stalactite formations and underground water; the temperature was cool and mysterious. Afterwards, we spent the afternoon eating, drinking, and taking photos on Senaga Island. In the evening, we experienced the super exciting street go-karting! Wearing anime character costumes, we raced along the road, laughing and having fun. Go-karting isn't slow; it's at 70-80 kilometers per hour, a completely different feeling from driving at 70 kilometers per hour! The whole experience took about two hours, with a stop on Senaga Island, meaning we experienced both day and night on Senaga Island. The go-karts even went onto Kokusai Street, making us the center of attention—it felt like driving a sports car and everyone was staring at you! 🏠 Overnight Stay: Kokusai Street ⸻ 🏙 Day 5: Shopping on Kokusai Street → Heading Home On our last day, we indulged in shopping on Kokusai Street, buying souvenirs, brown sugar cookies, and browsing drugstores, bringing our trip to a perfect close. My husband had originally planned our first stop to be A&W's bitter melon burger. But when we arrived, the long line had already snaked out the door. I hadn't expected Okinawa to be as bustling even after the October holiday. Seeing the crowds, I gave up immediately. I took a photo with my husband to show my "I've been there" as proof of my presence. Without wasting time, we drove straight to Cape Manza. -- 🌊 Driving Around Cape Manza: Blue Skies and Elephants I love driving around Okinawa. Sometimes I feel like I could just buy a bottle of sparkling water, grab a bento from the convenience store, and find a shady beachside spot and just sit there all day. The entrance fee to Cape Manza is only ¥100, which feels like a "toilet cleaning fee," but it buys you a priceless view. My husband, worried I'd be hungry, suggested eating first. I ordered Okinawa noodles, and he had a sashimi set. The pork belly cartilage was tender and flavorful, but the broth was a bit salty. As I ate, I thought, if the world could display salt content, allowing people to choose a few grams of salt and sugar. How wonderful would that be? After eating, we bought tickets to enter Cape Manza. The most captivating thing was the rock that resembled an "elephant on the seashore." Groups of tourists, vying for the perfect angle, rushed to take photos. I suddenly thought of Taiwan's Elephant Trunk Rock— I wonder how many "walruses" like this one are around the world. Maybe someone is actually traveling the world to collect them. The only downside here is the crowds. It turns out that even after the October holiday, the crowds are still thronging. Then I suggested we walk across the Kouri Bridge. As we walked, he complained about the fine sand on his feet, while I admired the color of the sea. The sea was beautiful, but his soles must have felt uncomfortable. As we walked along the Kouri Bridge, my attention wasn't on the sky, but on my feet. He'd already found quite a few restaurants, and he'd been excitedly discussing this one, "Three Ways to Eat Shrimp." He said it was a must-try recommendation from netizens. When we arrived, the small space was packed with seven groups of waiting customers. The shops sell items like over-the-counter medicine, swimsuits, swim rings, drinks, and instant noodles, making it very convenient even if you don't leave the hotel. 👍 The hotel features two pool areas and a spa zone on B1. One pool is less exposed to sunlight and has deeper water, making it less suitable for small children. The other pool is perfect for taking beautiful photos and is open until 9:00 PM. I initially thought people would stop swimming at night due to the cooler temperatures, but no! Guests here tend to enjoy the pool until the very last minute. 💦 However, my little one, Bu Bu, didn't seem to adapt well to the large pool. After playing by the edge for a bit, they insisted on going back to the room to find mom... 🥲 If I had to point out some drawbacks, they would be: ① Breakfast is served in two restaurants, but both get extremely crowded during meal times (I recommend eating earlier). → The food leans towards whole ingredients (not bad but not exceptional), and it's friendly for both the elderly and children. ② The nearest parking lot to the hotel fills up after 6:00 PM, so you'll need to park in the lower parking lot, which requires a short uphill walk of about 5 minutes. ③ The hotel is located a bit off the main road, and after 10:00 PM, you can hear loud motorcycle noises 🏍️ (not sure if it's from a biker gang). 📍The Moon Beach Museum Resort This place was far more wonderful than I had imagined, and I absolutely loved the atmosphere of this hotel located in Onna Village. 🪸 The first thing that amazed me upon entering was the open-air lobby, where the sea breeze flows through, and the atrium with its high ceilings. 🌿 In Okinawa, which often experiences typhoons and has a humid climate, open-air lobbies like those in Hawaii are surprisingly rare. The international vibe of this place is truly overwhelming. 👏🏻 The atrium leading to the guest rooms is also open and airy, allowing you to feel the natural elements like rain and wind, as well as the interplay of light and shadow—a stunning architectural design. 🌬️ Built shortly after Okinawa's reversion to Japan, this hotel retains the charm of its 50-year history while incorporating art and modern touches, creating a magnificent space. 🏝️ The tropical plants, including the palm trees, exude an atmosphere unique to the tropics that newer hotels simply can't replicate, which I found absolutely delightful. 🌴 The renovated guest rooms are comfortable and user-friendly, making this a place I definitely want to stay at again. 🫣 I kept thinking to myself, "Why didn't I come here sooner, even though I knew about it?" 😌 By the way, this hotel is part of the same group as my favorite, The Busena Terrace. 🫶🏻 I highly recommend staying here at least once. 🤍

Day 1: Arrived at Naha Airport around 5 PM. Beforehand, I checked the monorail routes. Since most of the transportation during these three days would be by bus and taxi, I purchased an OKICA card. Arrived at Kencho-mae Station and took a taxi to the hotel for check-in. Later, walked to NAKAMA to enjoy Agu pork shabu-shabu. After dinner, strolled around Kokusai Street and then walked back to the hotel. Day 2: Took a taxi to Asahibashi Station and then took the 20/120 bus to Onna Village Yakuba-mae Station. Walked to Cape Manzamo, with an entrance fee of 100 yen. Next, went to Kuroshio Diving. At 11:30, there was a briefing and wetsuit fitting, followed by waiting for the car. After arriving at the port, we had to wait for the instructor to finish lunch. Finally, at 12:30, we boarded the boat. The diving and photo session at the Blue Cave took about an hour. Afterwards, headed to American Village for a meal, some shopping, and photos. Bought a nice pair of sandals. The sunset here was stunning. We arrived around 4 PM, but with eating, taking photos, and exploring, there wasn’t enough time to see everything. Took the 8:25 PM bus back to Naha City. Day 3: Checked out early in the morning. First, went to Kokusai Street to visit Don Quijote, then headed to Makishi Market for some seafood. After that, visited Naminoue Shrine. Finally, returned to the hotel to pick up luggage, went to the airport to buy souvenirs, and completed the check-in process. These three days were packed, but I truly enjoyed the beauty of Okinawa. So happy! ☺️

#OkinawaTravel Okinawa Travel Guide 4 Days 3 Nights Our 4-day, 3-night Okinawa trip ended perfectly. Despite the heat of September, the weather was beautiful and photogenic. Itinerary: Day 1: Airport to hotel, to the beach next to the hotel Day 2: Cape Manza to Kouri Island, to the Okinawa Aquarium, Umi Churaumi, to the hotel pool Day 3: Senaga Island to duty-free shops, to the American Village (if you don't want to go to duty-free shops, you can head to Cape Chinen in the morning and continue on to Senaga Island). Day 4: Hotel to airport Hotel: The Beach Tower Okinawa Our room faced the ocean, and the ground floor had the beach and pool. American Village was only a 5-minute walk away. The breakfast buffet included pan-fried wagyu beef, and most importantly, it was very cheap. You can buy as many lotions and cleansers as you want, haha. Getting there: A taxi from the airport to the hotel takes 35 minutes and costs 5,400 yen. We rented a taxi for two days, for days 2 and 3. The first day took 10 hours and cost 1,500 yen and up, and the second day took 8 hours and cost 1,200 yen and up. Attractions: Masamo: Although there were only a few minutes to take photos and return, the scenery was beautiful and very photogenic. If you're visiting the aquarium, you definitely should definitely stop by. If you're not, I wouldn't recommend it. Kouri Island: We didn't swim, so it was quite boring. We just took a few photos and then left. Okinawa Umi Churaumi Aquarium: It wasn't as impressive as I expected. There are many beautiful aquariums, both domestic and international. However, the underwater restaurant is still highly recommended. Pay an extra 1,000 yen for a window seat! In September, during the off-season, the line was only half an hour long. It was worth it, and the photos were great. Senaga Island: We arrived around 9 a.m. But many restaurants stay open until 11:00, so we didn't get to try Lucky Pancake. We chose a restaurant with a sea view. The breeze was cool and refreshing, watching the sea and planes land. It was so relaxing! I really want to go back. I heard the sunsets are beautiful too. Duty-free shops: They have Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, and many other famous brands. The three of us spent the afternoon browsing.

If you choose not to have your room cleaned during your stay, you will receive shopping credits to use in the first-floor shopping arcade—a fantastic mutual benefit. This was my second trip to Okinawa. Besides the attractions on Google Maps, I went even further this time to explore the various small fishing ports. There were no tourists, only a few anglers, allowing me to see sights that most tourists don't get to see. No crowds, just the ocean in all its shades of blue.
