Monteleone d'Orvieto is an old medieval village in the north province of Terni. It is located on one of the hills that separate Orvieto from Città della Pieve; from that area you can admire a breathtaking view that sweeps from Tuscany to Lazio. "Why should this be on your bucket list?" I hadn't figured it out before I set off. I just thought of it as the inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki's animation that everyone visits when they come to Rome. Since I didn't drive, and being the master planner I am, I wanted to check off two towns in one day: the cliff town of Orvieto and the Castle in the Sky, Civita di Bagnoregio. Therefore, the itinerary was very tight. The plan was to visit the cliff town first, then head to the Castle in the Sky, and finally return to Rome on the same route. Here's the guide for a day trip from Rome: Take an early morning train from Rome to Orvieto. First, go to a convenience store to buy a bus ticket to the Castle in the Sky (buy an afternoon ticket), and then take a stroll around the town (it's very small, so leave about 1.5 to 2 hours for it). When it's time, catch the bus to the neighboring town outside the Castle in the Sky. (Because Civita di Bagnoregio has a risk of collapsing after an earthquake, a nearby town about a 50-minute walk away was developed. Most residents live there now and only enter the Castle in the Sky for business purposes.) There are two famous photo spots, but getting there takes quite a bit of walking. From the moment I got off the bus and walked towards the Castle in the Sky, I began to find my answer. After walking for almost an hour and starting to feel tired, the Castle in the Sky suddenly appeared before my eyes, standing isolated from the world. At that moment, bathed in the glow of the setting sun, time seemed to stand still. I happened to see a couple walking an adorable Golden Retriever. Everyone was soaking in the same magical atmosphere; it was such a heartwarming scene! Even though the day's schedule was super rushed, I must say it was absolutely worth it—despite the slight risk of catching the last bus back to the cliff town. (You really need to pace yourself to make it back in time. Even though it was the first stop, the driver was ten minutes late, which scared me to death because I thought I'd be stranded there for the night!) I highly recommend everyone to come and take a look. There's also the world's only "Castle in the Sky" perfume shop inside. The scent is very unique—I bought a small bottle to take home and absolutely fell in love with it!

I really made the most out of my travel day within Italy. This one-day tour started early in the morning from Florence, took me through various small villages, and finally dropped me off in Rome! I was much more satisfied than I expected. We also visited Civita di Bagnoregio, a cliffside village in Italy nicknamed the "City in the Sky." Because the surrounding terrain is crumbling due to years of weathering and erosion, it's also known as the "Dying City." This might be a landscape we won't be able to see in a few decades. We stopped by Orvieto, tasted a local pasta dish that looked like udon noodles, and explored the incredibly ornate Duomo di Orvieto. I was amazed and deeply impressed by the magnificent architecture of this cathedral in a hilltop village, which rivals those found in major cities. While passing through the Tuscany region, we definitely didn't miss out on the must-visit photo spots either. It was a highly satisfying and value-packed small group tour that allowed us to explore 4-5 small towns. I highly recommend this city-to-city transfer that delights your eyes, palate, and soul!
