It takes about two and a half hours from Motobu Port to Yoron Island. Two ferries, Marix Line and Maruei Ferry, operate alternately every day. Departing Motobu Port at 9:20 → Arriving Yoron Port at 11:50 I took the Maruei Ferry. You make a reservation in advance by phone, and have your boarding ticket issued at the counter on the day. I made a reservation for the cheapest second-class room with a dormitory seat. A very large Maruei Ferry. The ship was equipped with a restaurant, shower room, shop, and observation salon, making for a comfortable voyage. Also, since it was the off-season, the second-class bunk beds were empty, so I was able to sleep comfortably all the way to Yoron Port. Traveling by plane is nice, but traveling by ferry is also fun. Although it's part of Kagoshima Prefecture, it's actually a small island closer to Okinawa. It takes about five hours to get there by ferry from Naha Port, and about two and a half hours from Motobu Port. (You can also get there by domestic flight within Japan.) Because the island isn't large, you can easily cycle around it in a day or two, stopping along the beach to gaze out at the ocean and enjoy some quiet time. This was the filming location for the Japanese film "Glasses Megane," and the atmosphere from the film remains throughout the island. The ocean, especially the fluorescent glow of the sunlight, is truly breathtaking. Just sitting on the beach, feeling the breeze, and contemplating is enough to fill your trip with meaning.

I tasted some on the spot and they were so good that I bought some as souvenirs and ordered some when I got home! Fruit grown on the naturally rich Yoron Island is truly the best!
