As the sun finally lifts itself above the horizon, golden light spills across the landscape. It touches the treetops first, turning leaves into flickers of emerald and fire. The hills glow with a tender amber hue, and the streets below shimmer faintly, still empty and peaceful. In that moment, Lindoya feels timeless—unhurried, breathing slowly with nature. The mineral springs reflect the sky’s colors, capturing soft pinks and glowing oranges on their surfaces. The air feels clean and renewing, carrying the scent of earth and morning dewy. Shadows retreat gently as the light grows stronger, revealing the simple beauty of houses, paths, and gardens waking to a new day. This sunrise does not demand attention; it invites stillness. It reminds you to pause, to inhale deeply, and to appreciate the quiet miracle of beginnings. In Lindoya, the morning sun doesn’t just rise—it embraces the land, filling the heart with peace, hope, and a quiet joy that stays long after the light has fully arrived.

At sunrise, Hovedøya breathes before the city does. The ferry wakes the water only briefly, then silence settles again, stitched together by gull calls and the soft click of oars somewhere unseen. Light arrives slowly, like it’s thinking things over. First a thin line of pale gold slips under the clouds, brushing the old monastery ruins and catching on the wet grass. The stones remember everything, and in the early hour they seem warmer, almost kind. The forest holds its shadow a little longer. Pines and birch stand still, their reflections trembling in the narrow inlets, while the fjord turns from ink to steel to something faintly pink. You can smell salt, earth, and last night’s rain. It’s a clean smell, the kind that clears your head without asking permission. As the sun lifts itself free, Oslo appears at a distance, quiet and reduced, a suggestion rather than a demand. Here, time loosens. Footsteps feel louder, thoughts feel slower, and even breathing becomes deliberate. The island doesn’t perform; it simply exists, letting the morning find it piece by piece. By the time full daylight settles in, the moment is already gone. But it leaves something behind — a calm lodged just under the ribs, a certainty that the day began gently somewhere, even if it won’t stay that way for long.

Not to forget, we also had the delicious Reindeer Stew which was incredible. The service was amazing with the server explaining each dish to us patiently, making this the perfect welcoming start to our Oslo adventure! 🏨 Accommodation 📍Comfort Xpress Inn Oslo Our stay at Comfort Hotel Xpress Central Station placed us right in the city center, with a grocery store, money changer, pharmacy, Karl Johans gate, and tram and bus stops practically at our doorstep. The Royal Palace is situated on a rise, the Bellevue, at one end of Oslo’s main thoroughfare, Karl Johans gate. The Royal Palace is one of the country’s most important buildings, and a concrete symbol of the course of Norwegian history since 1814. Building activities commenced in 1824, and the foundation stone was laid by King Carl Johan on 1 October 1825. The Palace was officially taken into use on 26 July 1849 by King Oscar I. The Royal Palace is owned by the state and placed at the disposal of the head of state. It is where the daily work of the monarchy is conducted and where the King and Queen live. It is where the King presides over the Council of State, grants audiences and holds official dinners. Foreign heads of state who visit Oslo stay at the Palace. Most of the members of the Royal Court have their workplace here. The Royal Palace is open to the public during the summer season.

In 1913, Swedish professor Gabriel Gustafson proposed a specific building to house Viking Age finds that were discovered at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The Gokstad and Oseberg ships had been stored in temporary shelters at the University of Oslo. An architectural contest was held, and Arnstein Arneberg won. The hall for the Oseberg ship was built with funding from the Parliament of Norway, and the ship was moved from the University shelters in 1926. The halls for the ships from Gokstad and Tune were completed in 1932. Building of the last hall was delayed, partly due to the Second World War, and this hall was completed in 1957. It houses most of the other finds, mostly from Oseberg.

The Munch Museum is an art museum in Oslo, Norway, dedicated to the life and works of the artist Edvard Munch. It houses the world's largest collection of his works across 13 floors and also features contemporary art, performances, and other cultural events. The new, modern building in the Bjørvika neighborhood replaced the original 1963 museum.

Sculpture park in the Frogner Park with more than 200 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland (1869–1943) in bronze, granite and cast iron, including The Angry Boy (Sinnataggen in Norwegian), The Monolith (Monolitten) and The Wheel of Life (Livshjulet). Vigeland was also responsible for the design and architectural outline of the park, which is one of Norway's top tourist attractions, with more than one million annual visitors. The park is free to enter and open all year round, 24 hours a day.

Dating from 1299, this medieval castle and royal residence developed into a fortress in 1592 and was rebuilt into a renaissance castle between 1637 and 1648. Akershus Castle today contains banquet halls, the Royal Mausoleum and the government's reception rooms, and its small, historic church is the home of the royal sarcophagi. I began my walk at the iconic Oslo Opera House, a striking piece of modern architecture where visitors can stroll up the slanted marble roof for sweeping views of the Oslofjord. The crisp breeze and minimalist design created a sense of calm and openness. From there, I wandered through the city streets toward the University of Oslo area, admiring its classical architecture and peaceful surroundings. The combination of history and modernity in the cityscape was truly captivating. I also visited the Oslo Cathedral, a beautiful 17th-century church that stood gracefully amid the urban rhythm. Its brick façade and tranquil courtyard offered a quiet retreat from the bustle of the city. My walk ended near Karl Johans Gate, Oslo’s lively main street, where the Grand Hotel stood elegantly with its green rooftops and Norwegian flags waving proudly. The mix of sunshine and light drizzle that day added to Oslo’s charm, bringing out the city’s vibrant yet cozy atmosphere. The modern Oslo Opera House, the Operahuset Oslo, rises like a white iceberg from the seashore, offering a rooftop walk overlooking the azure harbor. The building is stylish and minimalist, its white exterior resembling a seagull with its wings spread, a large ship in the wind, and an iceberg on the sea—a truly unique sight. This is a unique and beautiful building. The rooftop slope allows you to walk up, around, and back down. However, due to the design, there are many hidden steps, making it easy to fall. While fun, be careful with children. If walking is truly challenging, there's an indoor playroom with childcare. Oslo: Every step is filled with surprises.

This is one of the most beautiful train and fjord routes in the world. The journey from Bergen to Oslo, filled with nature and breathtaking views, is like sitting in a giant postcard all day long. Let's begin our journey... 08:08-09:17 AM: Bergen-Voss. Starting from Bergen, a warm seaside town, we travel by Bergen Railway. We take the F4 to Voss, a small town with a strong reputation. Everyone must have heard of Voss's mineral water. Yes, that gray bottle amidst the mountains. The view is already stunning from the start. The additional train fare is NOK 514 per person. 10:10-11:10 AM: Voss-Gudvangen Before transferring to a bus, we took a scenic road to Gudvangen village, surrounded by steep mountains. The bus fare was NOK 72 per person. Around 10:25 AM, we passed the stunning Tvindefossen waterfall. On the way to Gudvangen, we stopped for a 20-minute stroll and took photos...the view was breathtaking. 12:00-14:00 PM: Gudvangen-Flam. Then, it was the moment everyone had been waiting for—Fjord Cruise 🚢. We cruised along the Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord, Norway's most beautiful fjords. The crystal-clear water reflected the steep mountains and small riverside villages, creating an unforgettable sight. The boat fare was NOK 1,250 per person. The cruise's final destination was Flåm village, a small village full of charm that you wouldn't expect to find so beautiful. 4:15-5:10 PM: Flam-Mydral. Here, we boarded the Flåmsbana Railway 🚂, one of the most beautiful railway routes in the world. You must sit on the right side to experience the most amazing landmarks. At a spot with a large waterfall, the train stops for about 5 minutes, giving you time to take photos. Flåm → Gudvangen Fjord Cruise (Boat): This is the highlight of the trip. Although the cruise lasts about 2 hours, it feels like it goes by in no time. Even for someone like me who gets seasick, the ride was smooth and comfortable, making it suitable for those who aren't used to boat rides 🙆♀️ Gudvangen → Voss Bus: Approximately 1 hour The buses fill up quickly, but they seem to adjust the number of buses based on the number of passengers. Since most people follow the same route, you can just go with the flow of the crowd. Voss → Bergen Train: Takes a little over 1 hour to arrive. I reached Bergen at around 9 PM. Oslo is compact, and its tourist spots are conveniently clustered together. --- 🌊 Oslo Harbor & Nobel Peace Center Walking past the small hill park (Kontraskjæret), you’ll arrive at the harbor. Watching fresh fish being sold directly from boats was quite impressive. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded exclusively in Oslo! The Peace Center is located right in front of the harbor. 🏛 Oslo City Hall & National Theater The brick-colored City Hall and the over 120-year-old National Theater showcase the charm of old architecture, contrasting the futuristic image often associated with Scandinavia. 👑 Royal Palace & Guards There were female guards too! The changing of the guard ceremony takes place at 1:30 PM, but unfortunately, I missed it. Karl Johans Gate, the street connecting the Royal Palace and the Parliament, is lined with parks and restaurants.

TRAVEL Oslo: take tram, bus, metro with Ruter card. Bergen: small city, mainly walking; there is a Floibanen train line up the hill to see the whole view. Between Oslo – Bergen: take the Bergen Railway (7 hours, extremely beautiful, many people call it “the most beautiful train line in the world”).
