Just got back from Turkey and it was a struggle. I really don't recommend going in September–October because it's just too...
Ladies, you know what I mean? Just got back from Turkey, and here's the honest truth: I really don't recommend visiting in September–October!
Instagram-style photos are all hot air balloon sunrises☀️, pure white Pamukkale❄️, and romantic filters at the Blue Mosque.
But the reality on the ground is something else: extreme temperature swings❄️➡️🔥, exhausting travel🚗, scams everywhere💸, and unpredictable weather⛈️⛅️.
It's not that it isn't beautiful, but for the average independent traveler, it's just paying money to suffer and having a mental breakdown! Read this before you decide whether to go!
🌤️The real weather in September–October (the biggest hidden trap)
September–October in Turkey is basically Schrödinger's autumn!!
📍Istanbul (coastal):
Daytime 18–26°C, scorching hot☀️; in the evening, the sea breeze is fierce🌬️, dropping to just over 10°C, cold and bone-chilling🧊.
PS: You must carry a jacket with you!!
📍Cappadocia (inland plateau):
A 20°C temperature difference between day and night is normal!🌡️
At noon, you're roasting in short sleeves, but at 3–5 AM, you're shivering (you have to wake up at 3 AM for the hot air balloon, and it's desperately cold)🥶.
📍Southern Pamukkale/Antalya:
Random afternoon showers🌦️, dark clouds roll in super fast, and sunsets are often blocked.
⚠️Fatal pain points:
Hot air balloon cancellation rates skyrocket! In September–October, it's windy and air currents are unstable; whether you can fly depends entirely on the weather🌪️.
The outfit struggle: experiencing four seasons in one day👗👖🧥🥾, your luggage will just explode.
🚗Turkey transportation (the most painful part of independent travel)
Even more of a hassle than Germany! Every day is just rushing, rushing, rushing...
✈️Domestic flights:
Lots of flights, but delays are the norm⏳. Even low-cost airlines charge for water💸.
🚌Intercity buses:
The travel time is long enough to make you question life😵💫. 4–6 hours is standard, and the mountain roads will make you want to puke...
🚕City taxis:
They'll try to rip you off💔. If they don't use the meter, they'll triple the price.
Overall experience: You're either sitting in a vehicle or on your way to sit in one😭.
🏛️Must-visit attractions: Expectation vs. Reality
🎈Cappadocia hot air balloons:
They are truly stunning on a clear day🌈.
But in September–October, whether you can fly is a gamble🌪️. If it's canceled, you woke up early for nothing.
🕌Blue Mosque:
Top-tier for photos📸.
But scammers are everywhere at the entrance, specifically targeting Asian faces😤.
☁️Pamukkale:
Looks pure white and ethereal in photos, but in reality, it's crowded and hurts your feet🦶.
Getting in the water in October is... quite an experience😖.
⏳4 days, 3 nights: A record of blood, sweat, and tears
Day 1 Istanbul
The temperature difference will teach you a lesson🌡️.
📍Hagia Sophia: 20-minute wait, crowded.
📍Blue Mosque: Shoes off + conservative outfit, tons of pushy salespeople at the entrance.
💣Avoid: The Golden Horn sunset is beautiful, but it's super windy💨.
Day 2 Hot air balloon gamble
Woke up at 3 AM😴.
Lucky: Beautiful sunrise🌅.
Unlucky: Stood in the cold wind for 3 hours only to be told it's canceled💔.
Day 3 Pamukkale ordeal
🚌5-hour drive, enough to make you question life.
☁️Pamukkale is actually yellowish and hurts your feet; you have to fight for a photo spot📸.
Day 4 Exhausting return trip
All I wanted to do was go home and lie down🛏️.
💣Avoidance guide (take notes)
1️⃣ Outfits: Layering! Thin long sleeves + thick jacket are a must.
2️⃣ Transportation: Book in advance! Choose night buses to save time.
3️⃣ Avoid scams: Just say "No thanks" to everyone🙅♀️.
4️⃣ Food: Bring instant noodles! Eating barbecue every meal will really get old🤢.
Summary:
Turkey is beautiful, but September–October is a big no!
If you're afraid of getting tired, cold, or scammed, wait until the season changes to come‼️
