The Monpera Palembang📜
#timetotravel
Palembang is one of the best tourist destinations in Sumatra Island. The city offers many tourist attractions for everyone. For those who love history, there is Monpera. It is actually a monument of people’s struggle. It was built to commemorate the struggle of local people against the Dutch.
The monument is located adjacent to the Great Mosque of Palembang. It has a unique characteristic, as well. The monument features 6 pillars and a relief of war. Palembang was involved in a war against the Dutch for 5 days. The Monpera becomes a symbol of it.
How to Get There:
Monpera is located on Merdeka Street, 19 Ilir. The best method is to use a private car. It is a faster and more comfortable choice. Though, a public transportation isn’t a bad idea. Tourists only need to use the Ampera lane. It won’t take long from the main town. Near to the monument, there are some food stands. Tourists should try the famous Pempek. It is the special food of Palembang.

Ampera Bridge Palembang
My Past Trip.
The Ampera Bridge, which has become a symbol of the city, is located in the middle of Palembang City, connecting the Seberang Ulu and Seberang Ilir areas which are separated by the Musi River.
The Ampera Bridge was built in 1962 with construction costs taken from the Japanese war plunder. This also happened in the construction of the Jakarta Monas monument. Initially, this bridge was named Soekarno Bridge, the president of Indonesia at that time. Giving the name is considered as a form of respect for the services of President Soekarno at that time. However, President Soekarno was less pleased because he did not want to create certain individual tendencies. For this reason, the name of the bridge was equated with the slogan of the Indonesian nation in 1960, namely the People's Suffering Mandate or abbreviated as Ampera.
Wonderful Palembang City, Indonesia
Palembang is one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, which has been around since the Srivijaya Kingdom. Palembang is famous for the Ampera Bridge that stretches over the Musi River, as well as its special food, namely pempek. The city of Palembang got the nickname as the Venice city of the East. This nickname is pinned by the western world, this is none other than the Musi river that flows around the city. This view or situation is like the city of Venice. Unfortunately the buildings on the banks of the river are poorly maintained, in contrast to Venice which is neatly arranged and becomes a tourist attraction.
Ampera Bridge is the only bridge that can be lifted in Indonesia by splitting the bridge into two. The bridge that connects the two regions is still operating today. Although it is rarely lifted, the Ampera bridge is still actively crossed by vehicles. At first the bridge was lifted so that passing ships would not get stuck in the body of the bridge. However, since 1970, the Ampera bridge has no longer been lifted because it is considered disturbing the traffic on it.

Jembatan Ampera Palembang
If Jakarta is synonymous with the National Monument, then Palembang is identical with the Ampera Bridge as an icon of the city which is famous for its empek-empek culinary. The people of Palembang City agree that the bridge that connects the area across the downstream and across the upstream is a symbol of the city that is the pride of the people of Palembang. It is not surprising that various entertainment stages held in Palembang City are often held around the Ampera Bridge.
Ampera Bridge has a length of more than 1000 meters with a width of 22 meters (4 vehicle lanes), with a height of 63 meters. In its time, Ampera Bridge was recorded as the longest bridge in Southeast Asia. The idea of building the Ampera Bridge has actually been around since the Dutch colonial era in 1906, with the main goal of connecting two areas in Palembang which are separated by the Musi River, namely across the ilir and across the upstream. But the idea was only realized in 1957.

Kuto Besak is a palace building which in the XVIII century became the center of the Palembang Sultanate. Palembang Arab Village
Al-Munawar village is a village inhabited by citizens of Arab descent. Judging from the age of the houses that are there, Arab people began to inhabit this village since 350 million years ago. This is certainly not surprising because Palembang is indeed one of the oldest cities in Indonesia. Rows of old houses in Al-Munawar Village are made of ironwood and marble floors imported from Europe. The unique floor motifs of each house further emphasize the traditional and elegant impression of the house. Of the 17 old houses there, 8 of them are cultural heritage buildings that are routinely maintained to maintain their sturdiness and cleanliness. In every corner your eyes will be spoiled by the unique architecture of each building. Another sight that can be seen is the number of wooden benches that are neatly arranged, making the traditional atmosphere even more pronounced. Moreover, if you step your foot into the alleys there, the traditional atmosphere will be increasingly thick. If you head to the pier facing the Musi River, the atmosphere of the middle eastern old city is further emphasized through the Turkish-style dome building.

KEMARO ISLAND
Beautiful Pagoda on Kemaro Island One of the attractions of Kemaro Island lies in the pagoda building in the center of the island. The architecture of the pagoda is very similar to the pagoda in the style of the bamboo curtain country. The sides of the walls of this nine-story pagoda depict the legend of Kemaro Island. The top of the pagoda consists of a Buddhist place of worship that is often used by the ethnic Chinese community, so it is not surprising that this pagoda is crowded before Chinese New Year or other Buddhist holidays. In fact, several rooms inside the pagoda are also often used by Chinese New Year festival participants to stay overnight. Right next to the pagoda, there is the Hok Tjing Bio pagoda which is more popularly known as the Kwan Im pagoda. In front of the pagoda which was built in 1962, there is the tomb of Tan Bun An, Siti Fatimah, and their bodyguards who are believed to be the origin of the formation of Kemaro Island.

My favorite places to eat in Palembang
Have you ever traveled to Palembang? In my opinion, there are many interesting destinations around Palembang, but unfortunately they have to be traveled long distances. But if you have little time and the main goal is to enjoy the cuisine, here I recap 3 recommendations for places to eat that must be visited in downtown Palembang!
📍Martabak Har. One of legendary place for food tourism in Palembang. The taste really spoil your tongue. Dont forget to poured curry sauce and chili above your martabak. Should try if you fond of Curry!
📍Pempek Vico. Of the many brands of pempek in Palembang, I fell for pempek vico. One of the most favourite place to enjoy local dish such as pempek, model, tekwan etc. And famous with its Es Kacang Merah, so far it’s the best of “es kacang merah” that i have tried in Palembang.
📍South Station. Hangout till drop here (close in 1 am). In Palembang is rather difficult to find out place to drink some coffee or beers, here the place i recommend for.

Kemaro Island
This is a small island in Musi river, reachable by 5-10 minutes boat ride from the port near Ampera bridge. The highlight of the place is one quite well-maintained Buddhist temple. People still come here to pray, you could find burnt incense at some spots around the temple. This island also has a pagoda not far from the temple, you could take pretty pictures of you with it on the background. Aside from the temple and the pagoda, really there is not much you could do in the island. But it was quite refreshing, worth to try while you’re in Palembang! 🌊🌸⛩ #summervacation #beachvacation #islandhopping #urbanexplorer

Enjoy the beauty of Pagaralam
To enjoy the natural beauty of Pagaralam, is by paragliding. Paragliding is a choice of sport tourism that we can choose as a different tourism alternative. Especially for tourists who have an adventurous spirit of course.
This Paragliding Sports is located in the tea plantation area at the foot of the Mount Dempo, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Pagaralam. Mount Dempo has a very beautiful view with a green expanse of tea plantations. When you try paragliding, you can enjoy the scenery around Mount Dempo and Pagaralam City more freely.
The facilities available at Pagaralam already have international standards. This area for paragliding in Pagaralam is the largest in Indonesia and can accommodate more than 40 paragliders at once.
Paragliding take-up location in Pagaralam is at an altitude of 1,900 masl. At the beginning of the paragliding a monument called Tugu Rimau was built, shaped like a statue of a tiger, wearing traditional South Sumatra clothes and holding a torch. To be able to get to Tugu Rimau you have to use a private car or rent a car. Because there is no public transportation to Tugu Rimau.

The Unique Hill in South Sumatra
In addition, this place is also an elephant breeding place in Indonesia. There are 40 elephants that have been tamed in captivity, but only a few elephants have been trained enough to be used by visitors.
When the holiday season arrives, nature lovers from various regions in South Sumatra often make Bukit Jempol as target for climbing. Although not too high, Bukit Jempol is considered to have challenging contours and terrain. To get to the top, the climbers are required to climb very steep cliffs.
In addition, Bukit Jempol is also considered to be a fun camping spot. Nature lovers from Palembang revealed, Bukit Jempol has beautiful natural scenery, besides also having unique vegetation, namely puspa plants, as well as tea and coffee gardens belonging to residents in the first part of the climb.
#summervacation#hikingtrails#urbanexplorer
Jempol Hill
Bukit Jempol was originally called Bukit Serelo. The location is in the village of Perangai, which is about 27 km from the center of Lahat City. Bukit Jempol has a high as about 900 meters above sea level. This hill is also known as the Bukit Tunjuk, because from another point of view the hill is shaped like a finger pointing upwards.
However, to enjoy the beautiful panorama from the top of the hill is not an easy matter, this is because in addition to the climbing distance which is quite far, slippery and steep where the climbing angle can reach up to 75 degrees. In addition, Bukit Serelo is a rocky hill that is covered by bushes like weeds.
Around the hillside there are clear water sources. In addition there is also a beautiful view in the form of a collection of fine graffiti rocks located at the bottom of the cliff not far from the Kedaton intersection which is an important intersection on this hill. Extra caution is needed if you want to camp on this hill, because the wind that blows in this hill is strong enough to be able to fly a tent, not to mention accompanied by quite cold air.
