Dipping the bread in basil sauce was amazing, and I finished all the bread 🤍 The beef stew had a strong red wine flavor, giving it a quintessential French taste. It started getting crowded around noon, so I recommend making a reservation! 📍Pink Mamma [Just under ¥5,000] They have counter seats, making it easy for solo diners. The truffle pasta had a rich aroma and was delicious, though the noodles were slightly firm. This level of quality is hard to find in Japan 😣 📍Café de Flore [Just under ¥7,500] Finally got to try the onion soup I've been dreaming of 🤍 It was loaded with cheese and tasted amazing! The crème brûlée had a strong egg flavor, which was nice, but personally, I felt satisfied with just one try of both. Dining near tourist spots in Paris can often feel overpriced for what you get, but I realized it's all about enjoying the atmosphere, photos, and experience 🥲 📍La Maison d'Isabelle [Just under ¥300] The croissant here was absolutely delicious 🥐 Crispy, buttery, and with a perfect flaky texture—simply divine ✨ I could eat it every day. However, I think many tourists take this phrase literally—they want to at least get a glimpse of the famous cabaret, even without actually visiting. The Moulin Rouge, which translates as "Red Mill," opened in 1889 at the foot of Montmartre Hill and immediately became popular—it perfectly reflected the Parisian spirit of the time: ease, carefreeness, and joie de vivre. There are two versions of the origin of this name: 1. The mill at the entrance to the cabaret was built as a symbol, a reminder that, before modern development, Montmartre Hill was a place where the French grew grapes, and windmills always operated in the vineyard areas. The red color is no coincidence: the cabaret was located in the local red light district. 2. A more brutal legend: according to it, during the Napoleonic Wars, four miller brothers defended the Montmartre hill. All four died in battle, but one managed to kill an enemy officer before dying. Then, the officer's friends, consumed by revenge, tied the miller to the wings of the staircase, and his blood dyed the building red. Creepy, huh? Initially, the cabaret gained a bad reputation – after all, the area wasn't the most prosperous. My Experience: Walking allowed me to see Paris from a different perspective. Although the final stretch involved a steep incline and quite a few stairs before reaching the basilica, the stunning beauty of the pristine white architecture of the Sacré-Cœur, gradually appearing in the distance, was a great motivator. Upon Reach: • Panoramic View: From the front of the basilica, you can see a panoramic view of Paris stretching as far as the eye can see. The sunlight reflecting off the city creates a breathtaking sight that makes all the tiredness disappear. • Architecture: The cathedral is incredibly majestic and sacred. I recommend walking around it to appreciate the intricate details of the sculptures. Tips for those who want to follow this walk: 1. Shoes are key: Wear comfortable walking shoes or sneakers, as the climb up Montmartre is quite steep. 2. Bring water: Although there are shops along the way, having water with you will be very helpful when climbing the stairs in front of the cathedral. 3. Watch your belongings: Since this is a major tourist attraction with many people (especially around the stairs in front of the cathedral), carry your bag in front of you and always be vigilant. If you have the time and are physically fit, I recommend trying this walk from the Louvre to here at least once. How I chose a hotel I was looking for a hotel within walking distance of the Saint-Lazare train station, as we were leaving for the surrounding area for several days in a row. The goal was to be right next to the train. I looked at the price after choosing the area. Then I read reviews, both good and bad, on various websites and looked at Google Maps. Chose: Hotel de Geneve, Rue de Londres, 36 (9th arrondissement) Location Near the Saint-Lazare train station, a four-minute walk from the hotel to the side entrance. I was worried that the area around the station would be uneasy and full of dangerous people. No, everything was fine – and we arrived late in the evening and walked to the hotel – it felt comfortable and quite safe. Another advantage is the proximity to the Opera (we took the RoissyBus from the airport), and the Champs-Élysées is about a half-hour walk away. There's a large supermarket at the train station where you can grab a snack. Cons: - there aren't any good, simple restaurants nearby - either bars or Asian cuisine options. We bought some goodies at Carrefour (a supermarket) one evening and ate at the hotel, and the other times we ate further away from the hotel, closer to the center. The Hotel The hotel itself is seven stories high and has an elevator. It's the first time I've ever seen such a small elevator - my husband and I barely fit in there! And everything is very Parisian-esque. I couldn't figure out how to photograph the bathroom - it's awkward, everything else is comfortable - but the camera just can't take pictures. Breakfast is included in the price and starts at 6:30 - and that's my biggest problem. Twice we arrived at 6:30 sharp to make it to the 7:10 train. And the first time, there was practically nothing ready for breakfast! Only coffee, and then they started bringing out yogurts and cold cuts. There was no hot food, the eggs arrived as we were leaving, and the croissants were just opened later. The second time was better, but they clearly weren't expecting anyone at opening time. And time was important to us. On days when we could afford to take our time to have a leisurely breakfast, everything was perfect. Fresh croissants, six types of cheese (oh, my favorite – a Brie croissant with cappuccino), cold cuts, juices, eggs, pastries, yogurts, and the obligatory applesauce. I'll also add that on the day of departure, early in the morning, we were offered a "grab and go" bag – they packed us some cold cuts, croissants, and yogurts. A small thing, but a nice touch! We had breakfast on the train. Room The room was tiny and at an angle (not square). For the two of us, considering we only stayed late in the evenings and early in the morning, it was enough, but no more. Everything was standard—they cleaned daily and replenished everything we needed. The shower and sink were perfect. Very quiet! The windows overlooked the courtyard, but we never heard our neighbors. Cons: On the last day, the hotel internet didn't work in the room in the evening, although it worked in the hotel lobby. Hotel Price In September 2025, I paid €1,079 for a 6-night room for two, with breakfast. On our very last day in Paris, we had a few hours in the morning, so we decided to visit the Botanical Garden after spotting a "green patch" on the map. And you know what? I was absolutely amazed! Expectation: Walking among flower beds and plants at best, possibly with an entrance fee. Reality: A magnificent green park with several museums, a zoo, a hilltop viewpoint, countless flowers, and a greenhouse. Facts: The Botanical Garden is located near the Gare d'Austerlitz, across the Seine and not far from Gare de Lyon, Place de la Bastille (where our hotel was), and I would even say it's not too far from Notre Dame. Many people were sitting on benches, eating and drinking, with suitcases nearby—likely waiting for their train. Despite this, the park (it feels wrong to call it just a garden) is incredibly clean! To the left of the entrance, there’s a row of museums: paleontology, geology, natural history, and the Museum of Evolution. Due to limited time, we didn’t go inside, but the skeletons visible through the paleontology museum windows were fascinating! I’ve marked it as a must-visit for my next trip. Throughout the park, you’ll find intriguing sculptures here and there. Looking from the entrance again, on the right side in the distance is the zoo, and closer by is the actual botanical garden. The zoo has an entrance fee, but some animals can be seen from outside the fence. The ticket price is no more than 10 euros, though I don’t remember the exact amount. And then, the Botanical Garden itself. Every plant is labeled, and they’re so interesting! Both my husband and I, who are far from being plant enthusiasts and don’t own a garden, thoroughly enjoyed wandering and observing. At the center, it’s all about flowers—flowers and more flowers. During our visit (mid-April), there were mostly tulips of various kinds. For some reason, photos don’t capture the scale; they look "flat." In reality, there are so many flowers, and their rows stretch far into the distance. I think you should plan at least half a day for this Botanical Garden. And if you include the museums, then a full day! If you have time and are in Paris, ready to explore beyond the "must-see" landmarks, then definitely visit! The nearest metro station is Gare d'Austerlitz. Or you can walk, like we did :)
