To be honest, Bhutan isn't a destination for everyone. But if you love to travel, I truly believe it's a country worth visiting at least once. There are no flashy tourist traps or glamorous nightlife. Even so, we felt a profound sense of satisfaction unlike anywhere else we've been. Here are the honest impressions of a couple in their 40s who explored Thimphu, Paro, and Punakha. 🇧🇹 Not Just Sightseeing, but a "Cultural Immersion" In Bhutan, Buddhist teachings remain at the heart of daily life. While visiting temples, we actually experienced the traditional prayer etiquette and full-body prostration. Witnessing their deep respect for the King and their peaceful way of life made this a "journey of understanding" rather than just "sightseeing." 🚗 The Quality of Our Japanese-Speaking Guide Exceeded Expectations Since traveling independently in Bhutan is quite difficult, you need to arrange a guide and a driver through an agency in advance. There are very few official Japanese-speaking guides in Bhutan, and I felt that the quality of your guide can make or break the entire trip. Our guide was an incredibly knowledgeable veteran. They carefully explained not only the history and religion but also the everyday lives and values of modern Bhutanese people, which added so much depth to our trip. 🛕 Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest) Was Beyond Expectations! This is Bhutan's most iconic sacred site, perched on a cliff at an altitude of about 3,000 meters. I had seen it in photos countless times, but the overwhelming emotion of making the climb myself and seeing it appear right before my eyes was on another level. It’s completely doable even without any hiking experience, and the sense of accomplishment is incredible. 🏝️ Incredible Hotel Stays Here’s where we stayed on this trip: · Thimphu: Le Méridien Thimphu · Paro: COMO Uma Paro · Punakha: Amankora Punakha While there are hotels across all classes, we specifically chose ones where we could fully enjoy the stay itself. COMO Uma Paro and Amankora Punakha were particularly breathtaking. Spaces enveloped in sheer tranquility, surrounded by beautiful nature and offering the warmest hospitality. These aren't "hotels for sightseeing"; they are "destinations in themselves." 👉 I plan to share detailed reviews of each hotel stay in future posts. 🍽️ About the Food (Important!) Bhutanese cuisine uses far more chili peppers than you might expect. Their national dish, "Ema Datshi," is a staple stew made of chilies and cheese. For the Bhutanese people, it’s akin to miso soup in Japan—something served on the table almost every single day. Every restaurant has its own unique take on Ema Datshi, and comparing them was one of the highlights of our trip. If you love spicy food, you absolutely have to give it a try. 🇧🇹 Highly Recommended If You: ✔ Want to visit a truly unique country at least once in your life ✔ Want to combine luxury hotel stays with authentic cultural experiences ✔ Have a strong interest in nature, religion, and history ✔ Value "what you felt" over "what you simply saw" I’ve traveled to over 30 countries, but rarely have I felt such a distinct difference in values and culture firsthand. This time I finally embarked on the journey of Bhutan Paro, I have been looking forward to it for a long time! Many Hong Kong friends know, Bhutan Airlines Drukair since this year launched Hong Kong direct flight to Paro special flight, only ten flights a year, really limited, drawn seats feel has won half 🤣 I departed in November, 5am in the morning at the Hong Kong airport assembly, although early morning but very excited ~ plane is A319, the body is not large, but the whole plane is almost all Hong Kong people It was already 8am when we arrived at Paro Airport, counting the time difference just as the morning light appeared. The most impressive is the design of the airport, which is very different from other airports abroad: no control tower, very short runway, all high mountains on both sides, the moment the plane landed really a little heart trembling, the window to see the fog enveloped, plus the cloudy and rainy weather, feel more mysterious. Outside the airport | The architecture blends traditional Chinese style and Tibetan patterns, even if the sky is very flavorful, the rice fields are ripe golden yellow dotted in the distance, surrounded by mountains, looking at the heart is quite peaceful. The beginning of the journey gave me a feeling of "walking into the pure land of earth", not like going to a commercialized scenic spot, it is really a place that blends with nature. The cloudy and rainy colors make the scenery more tranquil, and even the waiting and departure don't feel too stressful. Essential Tips: 📍Bhutan Airport is simple but efficient, entry and exit and money exchange are completed in one stop. Remember to bring your dollars, although the airport has a change service, but small cash is still more convenient. ⏲️ Hong Kong departure is recommended to arrive at the airport early, although direct flights but few flights, only ten flights a year, do not miss! And airplane seats are limited, so book early and definitely rest assured. 🌦️ November weather is mostly cloudy and rainy, keep warm At the beginning of the trip we saw under the cloudy rain, Chinese-style buildings, rapeseed fields and other large trees. Many people take photos and check in. Just admiring the scenery is healing enough. The natural views here in Paro are spectacular, and although the weather may not be beautiful, it highlights the feeling of being away from the hustle and bustle.
