Kings Park in Perth is a very famous large city park in the area, covering more than 400 hectares. Both locals and travelers love visiting this urban oasis, and my most profound experience was seen on the spot – a large expanse of lush green grass, two ducks lounging by the water, and fountain sculptures in the background, the whole painting was calm and healing with some European poetry. Don’t miss one of the highlights – the Baob Tree. It is in an iconic location within the park, particularly recognizable, and combined with the surrounding modern garden landscape, it is spectacular. Head up to Kings Park and Botanic Garden. It's more than a park - it's a viewing platform overlooking the skyscrapers and the Swan River. Be sure to walk along the Lotterywest Federation Walkway - a bridge among the eucalyptus treetops. The view of the city centre from the War Memorial is picture-perfect. Lunch (1:30pm – 2:30pm): Head down to Elizabeth Quay. We recommend SIMPLE Italian Cucina - right on the waterfront, excellent pizza and pasta, very convenient between walks. Afternoon (3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.): Cruise on the Swan River. Take a 2.5-hour cruise from Barrack Square Pier (near the bell tower). You will see Perth from the water, sail under bridges and see Fremantle from the bay. 🍷 Dinner (7:30 p.m.): Angel Falls Grill is an excellent option. It is a Venezuelan steakhouse located 5 minutes by taxi from the city centre. It is a very colourful place with a lively atmosphere. Day 2: Fremantle and the ocean Today you will need transport (train). How to get there: take the train from Perth Station. Fremantle Line. The journey takes 30 minutes, with trains running every 10-15 minutes. The views from the window are picturesque. Breakfast in Fremantle: the markets open at 10:00, so have breakfast at a café first. Little Bird Cafe or La Veen Coffee. Morning (10:00 – 13:00): History and markets. Fremantle Markets: Open Friday to Sunday. This is the bustling heart of the city. They sell everything here: from designer bags to Australian honey and chickpeas. Fremantle Prison - a former prison, a UNESCO site. Afternoon (2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.): Beach time. Take a bus or Uber to Cottesloe Beach. Evening (18:00): Dinner at a brewery. Return to Fremantle. Little Creatures Brewery is a legendary place. A brewery where they brew live beer. Return: also back to Perth by train. Day 3: vineyards or quokkas The third day is the most difficult decision. You have two options, both of which are ideal. Choose according to your mood. Option A: Swan Valley for gourmets. A wine region 25 minutes from the city. Transport: You will need a car (rental/Uber) or an organised tour. Public transport runs less frequently. Option B: Rottnest Island Transport: ferry from Elizabeth Quay or Fremantle. Rottnest Express is the most convenient operator. The journey takes 30-45 minutes. Things to do: * Quokkas: Find a marsupial that smiles. The main rule: DO NOT TOUCH, only take selfies. * Transport on the island: Rent a bike. This is our Western Australia road trip plan. We rented a car to experience maximum contrasts: from the cozy state capital to surreal desert landscapes. Day 3: 📍 Lancelin Sand Dunes - 130 km from Perth. 📍 Pinnacles Desert - 200 km from Perth. Thousands of limestone pillars jut out of the sand. It's one of the most otherworldly landscapes in Australia. 📍 Overnight in Geraldton - 420 km from Perth. A cozy coastal town, the perfect stopover. Day 4: 📍 Hutt Lagoon - 520 km from Perth. #australiatrip I came across Matagarup Bridge while walking from Perth Station to Perth Stadium Station — it was one of the highlights of my walk. The bridge is strikingly modern and impressive in its design. Matagarup Bridge, opened to the public in July 2018, connects East Perth with the Burswood Peninsula across the Swan River. When visiting Optus Stadium recently, we chose to walk back over the Matagarup Bridge to return to East Perth and the free bus service to get back into town. It as an impressive structure to say the least.
