Exclusive Secret Revealed: You Can Visit Jordan’s Petra for Under $100
#100usdchallenge #weekendgetaway
👉 Important! Leave a Comment below if you want me to share my secret tips for airlines vouchers!
When I told my friends I visited Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, for under $100, they didn’t believe me. But let me break it down for you—because with smart planning, this ancient city in #Jordan is closer (and cheaper!) than you think. #Petra
📖 A bit of history:
Petra is an archaeological wonder carved into rose-red cliffs by the Nabataeans over 2,000 years ago. Walking through the Siq and seeing the Treasury appear before your eyes is pure magic.
💸 My $100 Petra Budget Itinerary:
✔️ ✈️ Flights from Europe:
With low-cost airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air, you can book direct flights to Amman for as little as $20. I booked mine via Trip.com, which made the process quick and smooth.
✔️ 🏨 Accommodation in Wadi Musa (Petra’s town):
You’ll find great hostels and hotels from $10/night on Trip.com. Most offer free tea, Wi-Fi, and even shuttle service to Petra’s entrance.
✔️ 🎟 Petra entry fee:
The cost for a 1-day pass is around 50 JD ($70). It’s the priciest part, but trust me—it’s worth every cent.
✔️ 🍽 Food:
Skip the fancy restaurants and eat like a local. Falafel wraps or a plate of hummus with bread cost $3–5 at family-run cafés.
✔️ 🐪 Optional extras:
Want to ride a camel in front of the Treasury for the perfect photo? It’s negotiable but budget around $10 if you want the experience.
🌟 Why it’s worth it:
Petra isn’t just a place—it’s a journey into history. Exploring on a budget makes you feel like a true adventurer, not just a tourist.

Jordan: The world's most expensive entrance fee. The breathtaking world of Indiana Jones.
I finally visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Petra, which I had always dreamed of seeing!
The moment I emerged from the rock corridor known as the Siq and saw the stunning Al-Khazneh (Treasury), I was overwhelmed with emotion… 🥹✨
But that's not all! As you venture further in, you'll discover the Roman Theater, the Colonnaded Street, the Royal Tombs, and even the magnificent Ed-Deir (Monastery) perched atop a cliff. There are so many incredible sights to see!
It involves quite a bit of walking, but every spot feels like a scene from a movie, so you never get bored! It was like a mini adventure, and I enjoyed an entire day exploring 🗺️
It does require some stamina, but the awe-inspiring experience you gain is absolutely worth it. If you visit Jordan, this is a must-see destination! 🔥

An Amazing Petra by Night Experience
Petra by Night Photo Guide: How to Avoid the Crowds and Capture the Perfect Atmosphere
✨ Recommended Entry Times
• For the relaxed traveler: Enter a bit later. You don't have to watch the whole show. First, take photos in the Siq, and then, after the crowds have dispersed, use the candles on the ground in front of the Treasury to create a stunning atmosphere!
• For the eager traveler: Buy your Petra by Night ticket before entering during the day. When the staff clears the site, show your Petra by Night ticket to stay inside. However, policies sometimes change, so it's best to confirm the details with the ticket staff when purchasing your ticket. This way, you can be among the first to take photos as soon as the candles are lit, without any crowds!
📸 Photography Tips
1️⃣ Low-angle shots: Get close to the candles on the ground to capture more dreamy light and shadow effects.
2️⃣ Use the light: The candlelight is soft, so use it to take silhouettes or portraits.
3️⃣ Tripod + long exposure: Ensures stability for night shots and clearer pictures!
⚠️ Tips
• Remember to bring a jacket, as the temperature difference in Petra at night is significant.
• The lighting is dim, so adjust your camera or phone to night mode in advance.
📍 To capture stunning night views of Petra and avoid the crowds, remember to plan your time in advance.

🇯🇴Petra, an ancient city carved out of a cliff 2,000 years ago
Petra in Jordan is considered the most expensive tourist destination in the world, with an entrance fee of 50 dinars, or about 100,000 won.
However, you can see a magnificent sight that is well worth the price.
If you go down the red canyon, you will suddenly see the Al Khazneh ruins that appear unrealistically. It is an ancient ruin well known as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It is a temple that was carved and carved directly from the cliff.
In order to take a picture of Al Khazneh while sitting on the cliff as in images 1 and 3, you have to climb the cliffs on the left and right of Al Khazneh.
It is easy enough to climb on your own, but be careful because there are smoky-makeup touts who look like Jack Sparrow demanding a guide fee of more than 10,000 won, saying that you have to go up through them.
You can just go up and take a picture with your friends at the image 1 spot, or if you go up a little further and pay 1jd (about 2,000 won), there are people who will give you a cup of tea and take a video and picture (image 5) on the red carpet. This is cheap, so it is worth a try.
Many people only know the appearance of Al Khazneh, but it is only the tip of the iceberg. If you follow the canyon road that continues to the right of Al Khazneh, you will see the ancient city and necropolis where the Nabataeans lived 2,000 years ago. The library, laundry, and tombs they used... It is really amazing to feel the traces of people living there. It is so big that it can be called a city👍🏻
The donkeys and carriages for tourists that travel between them are also elements that make the appearance of this historic site unique.🫏 It is quite expensive, but since you have to walk a long way to see the highlights of the historic site, it is a good idea to bargain and use it when you are short on time or your feet hurt.

The Incredible Journey Through Time in Petra, Jordan
The Petra is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. We had two choices: walk two kilometers to the city center, or take a horse carriage to get there. I chose to walk and it was a good decision. We passed through many meandering paths, seeing sandstones that morphed in different shades of sienna and different shapes of curves on our way.
The tour guide gracefully showed us the way on foot. He explained that, in order to stop the water of the valley flooding the siq leading to the Al Khazmeh, the ancient people built canals and water pipes to direct the water. We saw bas reliefs along the siq, with the image of a man leading a fleet of camels stone-carved onto the sandstones. The natural contours of these red and yellow sandstones were a wonder itself.
I became used to the light human hand prints on the way, and thus I was blown away when we reached the Al Khazmeh. There standing proudly and prominently, the city center had high pillars supporting a beautiful Romanesque façade, hewn and chiseled into the massive sandstone structure. It was the treasury of the city. In the middle an opening led into some kind of depth that was kept out of bounds to us. I was simply unprepared for this view and very much awed.

MUST SEE 7 Wonders of the World - Ancient PETRA city
#ancientcities
Petra, one of the new 7 wonders of the world and UNESCO world heritage site, is truly amazing and beautiful. Petra is an ancient city in Hellenistic and Roman times. This means over 2000 years ago! While Petra is well known for the treasury, the other parts like the monastery, the tombs and the great temple are all pretty and impressive in their own ways! The hike to the monastery is definitely worth it. Also did the wadi al farasa trail to the high place of sacrifice which is moderately challenging especially going to the altar with crazy wind and steep slope. But you will get a panoramic view of petra and along the way see other interesting architectures. I spent 8 hours at Petra. Do note that the walk into Petra from the tourist information centre is about 30-40 mins walk.

2023: a year to remember! What’s netx? 🔜✈️
2023 was a beautiful year! I had the opportunity to visit many new places.
In January I went to Jordan. While I was there, I had the opportunity to visit Petra, one of the seven wonders of the modern world. January being a non-high season period, there were few people and it was beautiful. Petra is definitely a magical place to see at least once in a lifetime.
In April instead I had the opportunity to go to Beijing. Here too I saw another wonder of the modern world, The Great Wall of China. But the thing that left me most shocked was the Terracotta army which is located in the city of Xi'An.
I hope to have other opportunities to travel in 2024 as I had in 2023. The destinations I would like to visit this year are New Zealand and French Polynesia…so Oceania is my next goal 🔜✈️

The Monastery: A Great Nabatean Temple
The Monastery, also known as Ad Deir, is one of the largest and most impressive monuments in Petra, Jordan. It is a monumental building carved out of the rock in the Nabatean Classical style. The Monastery is located high in the hills northwest of the Petra city center and was probably built as a temple in the early second century AD.
The building is believed to have been designed as a tomb, just like most of the other monuments around Petra. The huge facade, the inner chamber, and the other structures next to it or in the wider area around the Deir probably originally served a complex religious purpose and were possibly repurposed as a church in the Byzantine period.
The Monastery is a long way from anything, which is why it has fewer visitors and is a great winter getaway. To get to the Monastery, you need to walk up 800 steps on a path from the valley. Along the route, there is the Wadi Kharrubeh, the Lion's tomb, and many other tombs and caves.

Beautiful Landscapes Surrounding Al-Baydha
The landscapes of Al-Baydha just outside of Little Petra are breathtaking, with wind-eroded cliffs surrounding the valley. The surrounding area is as captivating as the site itself and offers diverse and dramatic views of Jordan’s natural beauty.
The rugged terrain around Little Petra offers a fascinating insight into the natural history and geology of the region. From the ancient rock formations, shaped over millions of years by wind and water, to the unique ecosystems that have evolved to survive in this challenging environment, there is much to discover and explore.
For those seeking a unique experience, consider staying in a bubble hotel camp, which offers a unique opportunity to sleep under the stars in a "bubble" room, providing a panoramic view of the stunning desert landscape.

Al-Siq: The Majestic Gateway to Petra
Al-Siq, the main entrance to the ancient Nabatean city of Petra in southern Jordan, makes the best entrance into the area. This narrow gorge, in some points no more than 3 meters wide, winds its way approximately 1.2 kilometers and ends at Petra's most elaborate ruin, “The Treasury”.
The Siq is a natural geological fault split apart by tectonic forces and later worn smooth by water. The walls that enclose the Siq stand between 91–182 metres in height. As you walk through the Siq, you'll notice the remains of the original city gate to Petra.
The Siq was used as the grand caravan entrance into Petra. Along both walls of the fissure are a number of votive niches containing baetyli, which suggest that the Siq was sacred to the Nabatean people. In 1998, a group of statues were uncovered when digging was conducted to lower the road.

Petra Museum: A Journey Through Time
Located just a three-minute walk from the main gate to Petra, the modern Petra Museum is a treasure of history and culture. The museum offers a unique experience, allowing visitors to explore the region of Petra over time.
The museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts, dating back to different ages. These artifacts, discovered in and around Petra by archaeological excavation teams, provide a glimpse into the rich history and civilization of the Nabateans.
The museum's exhibition consists of five halls, each showcasing different aspects of Petra's history and the Nabatean way of life. From pottery figurines of a man playing a double-flute to a sandstone stelae known as the "Goddess of Hayyan" excavated from the Temple of the Winged Lion in Petra, the museum offers a great insight into the past.
In addition to the artifacts, the museum also features interactive digital elements and original size reconstruction models, all based on recent archaeological research, which bring the history of Petra to life for visitors.

Al-Khazneh , also known as treasury of the pharaoh is one of the most elaborate and fascinating temples in Petra, a city of the Nabatean Kingdom inhabited by the Arabs in ancient times. This structure was actually carved out of a single sandstone rock Instead of being built and it is actually 39.1 meters tall! Stay at the Marriott Petra, right in front of the ruins of Petra in Jordan!
This time I stayed in Petra, Jordan for two nights. Of course, my main purpose was to visit the World Heritage site of Petra, but I stayed at the only Marriott hotel in the city of Petra, the Petra Marriott.
The hotel itself isn't that big, but the spectacular view of the Petra ruins is impressive.
I was also impressed by the high level of hospitality of the Jordanian people. They are very kind and gentle.
As a perk, I got free dinner and breakfast, and enjoyed delicious Jordanian cuisine while listening to live music at the Arabic restaurant.

Travel 4 hours by bus from the capital Amman to the World Heritage site of Petra.
We will travel from Amman, the capital of Jordan, to Petra, the most popular area in Jordan, where the Petra ruins, a World Heritage Site, are located.
Jordan does not have a train system, so the main means of transportation are buses or taxis.
This time, we traveled to Petra in about four hours on a high-speed bus called Jet Bus, which is the most popular bus for tourists.
There is only one bus per day, so reservations are required.
You can make reservations online. It costs about 2,000 yen one way.
There is one toilet break on the way, but the trip is basically non-stop.

The Rose City of Petra ✨
Petra has also been referred to as the “Rose City” because of the colour of the stones used in its buildings. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985
I checked off my second Jordan bucket list here, which is to see The Treasury (Al-Khazneh). To get here, you first walk the 1.2km long Siq, a narrow gorge that serves as the entrance to Petra.
I recommend spending two days here because the place is massive and there is so much to see in Petra.
Top tip: take pictures on your way back from the trails around 5 pm when people start leaving.
Best months to visit April and September 😎

Petra-Jordan
Petra is a famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert. Dating to around 300 B.C., it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom. Accessed via a narrow canyon called Al Siq, it contains tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs, earning its nickname, the "Rose City." Perhaps its most famous structure is 45m-high Al Khazneh, a temple with an ornate, Greek-style facade, and known as The Treasury.
