Legend of Phetchabun City Pillar Shrine
Phetchabun City Pillar Shrine has a distinctive feature that is different from other provinces, which is that it is a city pillar shrine made of sandstone. The sema stone is not wood. According to the records of the Fine Arts Department, this stone sema stone was brought from Si Thep Historical Park, which has been around since the Dvaravati period, when there was a flourishing Khmer civilization, and it is over 1,200 years old. Therefore, the people of Phetchabun Province consider this city pillar shrine to be the oldest in Thailand. If anyone has the opportunity to visit Phetchabun, don't forget to stop by and make a wish. "The legend of the ancients says that when the city walls were built, people named In, Chan, Man, and Kong had to be buried at the city gate. Soldiers went to look for people named In and Chan, but they found them, but Man and Kong still couldn't find them. It turned out that while they were looking, they found two novices, Man and Kong, at Wat Traibhum. The soldiers were going to take them to the city lord to perform a ceremony to bury them alive at the city gate. But before taking the two novices to be buried, The abbot of Wat Traibhum requested that the two novices eat lunch first. However, since the soldiers had been searching for them for several days and were afraid that they would not make it in time for the ceremony, they refused to comply with the abbot’s request. The abbot became angry and cursed them, saying that whoever became the governor of Phetchabun would not last more than three years, or something bad would happen to them. Since then, no governor or provincial governor has ever lasted more than three years. These are still miracles that cannot be answered." #NortheasternTeam

🙏 Wat Trai Phum, an ancient temple in Phetchabun, is the home of the revered Buddha statue 'Phra Buddha Maha Thammaracha'. This bronze Buddha statue, in the meditation posture, is crafted in the Lopburi art style.
🏞 According to history, locals discovered this Buddha statue in the Pa Sak River in front of the temple. It was then enshrined at Wat Trai Phum. Later, the statue disappeared and was found again in the same river location.
🏞 This led to the tradition of 'Ump Phra Dam Nam', where the provincial governor carries the Buddha statue to the riverbed and emerges, repeating this in all four directions, believed to bring good fortune to the province.
