2026 Pinhao Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in August)

Most people visit Douro Valley as part of a guided tour. We didn’t. Instead, we took the scenic train from Porto — and honestly, the journey became one of the highlights of the trip. If I could do it again though, I’d make one small change. 🗺️ Route: Porto Campanhã → Régua → Pinhão → Porto 🚆 Start Early from Porto Take the morning train from Campanhã Station. 🕢 First departure: 07:30 🎫 Train ticket: €13 This ended up being one of my favourite train rides in Portugal. As the city slowly disappears, the landscape changes into rolling hills, vineyards and river views. And somehow… the train itself just felt like vibes. 💡 My biggest tip: Sit on the RIGHT side of the train when departing from Porto. You’ll be rewarded with some of the most beautiful views along the journey. 🍇 Stop 1 — Régua Originally, this was where we got off. Régua is already beautiful and gives you a glimpse into Douro Valley life. But if I’m being completely honest… ✨ My recommendation: Stay on the train. 🚆 Continue to Pinhão If you have the time, take the train all the way to Pinhão. The scenery keeps getting better the deeper you travel into the valley. More vineyards. More river views. More of that quiet Douro atmosphere. This is the part of the journey I would prioritise if I did it again. 🌿 Explore Slowly Once you arrive, don’t rush. Walk around. Sit by the river. Enjoy lunch. Enjoy the slower pace. Douro Valley felt different from Porto and Lisbon — quieter, slower and meant to be enjoyed without an itinerary. And that’s exactly why I loved it. ✨ Save this for your Portugal trip. #Porto

#Get a discount without relying on luck For those who visit the vineyards in the Douro Valley, they often stop by this train station. Because those who travel by train must pass through. As for those who travel with a tour, the tour often takes them to stop here as well. Because in addition to being close to the river cruise port, the station here also has beautiful authentic Portuguese Azulejo tile paintings all around. Taking pictures is fun. Although it is a small station, not as magnificent as the train station in Porto, it has a cute charm in another way. Next to the station, there is a small shop where you can buy water, snacks (there are Portuguese egg tarts), and souvenirs.
