Heihe City, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Heilongjiang Province, formerly known as Aihui, is located at the eastern end of the Greater Xing'an Mountains and the northern part of the Lesser Xing'an Mountains. Archaeological evidence shows that as early as the Old Stone Age, humans were active here, forming the basis of the local ancient indigenous people. On February 8, 1993, Heihe was demoted to a city. With the centerline of the main channel of the Heilongjiang River as the boundary, it faces Blagoveshchensk, the third largest city in the Russian Far East and the capital of Amur State, across the Heilongjiang River.
