Aletsch Glacier, Switzerland
Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps.
🚋 Travel: You can take a train to Fiesch. We departed from Interlaken, which took about an hour. Then, take a cable car to the mountain top.
🚶♂️Once at the top, you can walk a bit further to see the glacier below or continue hiking. We chose to hike across the valley, a distance of about 10 km, which took around 4-5 hours.
In mid-September, I revisited Valais, Switzerland. The beautiful and magnificent scenery of Valais was still pleasing to my eyes and made my heart surging.
🇨🇭Valais is the third largest state in Switzerland, bordering France and Italy. More than half of the more than 80 majestic peaks over 4,000 meters in the Alps are located in Valais. The natural scenery is beautiful and it is a charming holiday paradise in Switzerland.
✈️Take Hainan Airlines, fly directly from Shenzhen to Milan, Italy, and then take a bus for more than two hours, we arrived at the first stop of this trip to Valais, Switzerland-Aletsch Glacier Area (Aletsch Arena).
🌍The Aletsch Glacier in southern Switzerland extends from the north slope of Eiger, Monk and Jungfrau to Valais. It was 23 kilometers long and is the largest and longest glacier in Europe.
🧊The Aletsch Glacier is uniquely shaped and magnificent. The unique U-shaped arc shows the magic of nature. It looks like a white jade belt hanging between the mountains, winding and winding, vast and magnificent, and was awarded the "World Natural Heritage".
🌞However, it is a pity that with global warming, the Aletsch Glacier is quietly and irreversibly melting every moment. It is said that the length has now been reduced to 20 kilometers, which is regrettable. According to scientists' calculations, the glacier will even disappear completely by the end of this century. Friends who want to go must hurry up.
📷The Aletsch Glacier has three viewing platforms: Eggishorn, Bettmerhorn and Moosfluh. The three small towns of Fiescheralp, Bettmeralp and Riederalp all have cable cars that can go up to the viewing platform to enjoy the scenery.
🏔️The scenery of these three viewing platforms is very open and beautiful. Tourists can clearly see the location between the viewing platform and the glacier on the map. If you only enjoy the scenery, I recommend the highest Eggishorn viewing platform among the three. This angle can overlook the U-shaped glacier and the scenery of the European famous peaks such as Matterhorn, Jungfrau and Eiger.
🐑This time, we only visited the Moosfluh viewing platform and the Bettmerhorn viewing platform. The scenery was very beautiful. Especially at the Bettmerhorn viewing platform, in addition to seeing the U-shaped glacier, we also encountered the black-faced sheep, a specialty of Valais, and the interesting scene of leisurely walking on the mountain.
🏨For the Aletsch Glacier tour, we chose to stay in the small town of Bettmeralp. After coming down from the Moosfluh viewing platform that day, we chose a 2.5-kilometer mountain hike, with picturesque scenery all the way. After coming down, we stayed at the Bettmer Alpi Hotel (Hotel Alpfrieden), a Swiss mountain chalet-style hotel, which is not large but warm and comfortable. You can see the sunset and sunrise from the balcony of the guest room.

The first stop this time is to the Aletsch Glacier, because it is a world heritage site, the largest glacier in the Alps, and also because the glacier may disappear this century due to global warming
This first stop is to the Aletsch Glacier, because it is a world heritage site, the largest glacier in the Alps, and also because the glacier may disappear this century due to global warming. It is possible that if you look at the glacier one day later, there will be less.
Starting from the town of Bettmerhorn, walking on a gravel road for almost three and a half hours, it was really sour and refreshing. I haven't focused on the road under my feet for a long time, especially at an altitude of more than 2000 meters, with the glacier on the right~ Throw away the phone and wash your eyes in the mountains for a whole day. I met many locals along the way, hiking, mountain biking, this is the weekend routine of the Swiss, hiking in the mountains, as a foreigner, the speed was far behind by the locals Many Swiss people may not have been to Jungfrau, but they will come to Aletsch for hiking again and again.

Discovering Aletsch Glacier: A Swiss Adventure
Our road trip commenced with a breathtaking sunset over Aletsch Glacier, observed from the enchanting Eggishorn viewpoint
As the Alps' largest glacier, Aletsch Glacier treated us to diverse perspectives. We ventured to Moosfluh, adorned with vibrant red/orange flowers during autumn, providing another picturesque setting for a magnificent sunset! The return hike under the dim light, illuminated only by our headlamps, added an element of magic to the experience.
Reconnecting with the majestic mountains fills my heart with joy, and I eagerly anticipate sharing all my forthcoming Swiss adventures. Who knows, we might even have the chance to plan a hike together!

The snow-covered Alps, a skiing paradise you can't miss!
1. Engelberg Titlis
Engelberg Titlis, with an altitude of 3238 meters, is located in Engelberg south of Lake Lucerne. The millennium-old glacier makes it one of the most famous peaks in the Alps. The world's first 360-degree rotating cable car and the highest suspension bridge in Europe make it famous. The charming town of Engelberg at the foot of the mountain is the largest winter sports resort in the Lucerne area.
In addition to skiing, you can also enjoy romantic carriage rides, relaxed snowshoe walks, and taste delicious Swiss cheese fondue in charming Alpine huts. Experience Europe's only electric snowmobile, and then rejuvenate in the hot spring bath.
By train, it only takes 47 minutes to travel from Engelberg to Lucerne, the most beautiful city in central Switzerland, and immerse yourself in a rich variety of cultural and musical activities. You can also visit numerous museums, shop in the charming old town, and stroll on the famous Chapel Bridge.
2. Jungfrau Ski Resort
The Jungfrau, known as the 'Queen of the Alps', with an altitude of 4158 meters, is located 18 kilometers southeast of the tourist resort of Interlaken and is one of the highest peaks in the Alps. As one of the classic attractions of Swiss tourism, the Jungfrau has always attracted tourists from all over the world with its snow, peaks, sunshine, and floating clouds.
The top of the Jungfrau is equipped with the 'Ice Palace', 'Top of Europe' glacier restaurant, and even a cinema. The Sphinx viewing platform offers a panoramic view of the longest Great Aletsch Glacier in Europe. Enjoy the fun of hiking on the snow-covered glacier.
The White Elements Snowpark in Grindelwald has a variety of props such as jumps, boxes, and poles, providing a perfect choice for freestyle skiers. The most spectacular slope is located on the downhill snow track of the Lauberhorn ski resort in Wengen, where winter sports enthusiasts will be able to experience the adventurous fun of professional skiers.
3. Gstaad Ski Resort
The internationally renowned resort town of Gstaad is located in Saanen in southwestern Switzerland and can be reached by train or long-distance bus from Zurich, Bern, or Geneva airports. The Golden Pass panoramic train route also passes through Gstaad.
Like other top resorts in the Alps, Gstaad is very comfortable, even in winter, with temperatures ranging from minus 3 to minus 8 degrees. As the only glacier skiing area in the Bernese Highlands, 'Glacier 3000' offers visitors a great experience with magnificent views, even in summer you can ski on the millennium-old glacier.
4. Zermatt Ski Resort
The town of Zermatt is the darling of the Alps, surrounded by 38 mountains over 4000 meters above sea level, almost half of the 85 peaks over 4000 meters in the entire Alps. The towering mountains are covered with snow all year round, making Zermatt, located in the valley at an altitude of 1620 meters, seem like a fairyland.
Zermatt is also a popular four-season ski resort in Switzerland, with an average annual snowfall of 762 cm. The 360-kilometer ski trail is distributed between 1620 meters and 3883 meters in Switzerland and Italy. Even in summer, the summer ski area on the Theodul Glacier has 21 kilometers of ski trails, and the snow conditions are guaranteed all year round.

It is Europe's largest glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage site, surrounded by geological glacial featured landscapes and Alpine flora and wildlife. It is absolutely stunning. The hiking trail can be a bit challenging sometimes but it is worth the effort, because you constantly have great views on the glacier. I recommend the hike from Bettmerhorn to Fiescheralp, 3-3.5 hours of hike plus a nice lunch break in the "Gletscherstube".
Definitely a must see!
