The ninth Aman in my life: Amanwella by the sea.
The ninth Aman in my life: Amanwella by the sea🌊
Sri Lanka🇱🇰 is a fascinating country with ancient cities, ruins, tea gardens, surfing, rafting, Safari... It's very fun. In fact, seaside vacations are also unique. The further south you go, the further away from Colombo, the better the quality of seawater and beaches. Weligama, Mirissa, and Tangalle are all good seaside resorts.
Amanwella in Tangalle is the top seaside resort in Sri Lanka and the top cost-effective Aman in Asia. The environment is very good, with a golden coast of swaying coconut groves and a crescent beach. This is in line with the meaning of the hotel name, Wella is "quiet beach".
🌊Design
The hotel designer is Aman's royal designer Kerry Hill. I think Kerry Hill's design for Amanwella is somewhat like Geoffrey Bawa's tribute. For example, the integration of symmetrical aesthetics and natural scenery into the building, the use of light steel structure instead of stone column roof, the combination of traditional culture and modernism, these are Bawa's ideas. The hotel uses simple and quiet architectural lines to create a landscape full of original ecological interest, which is also Bawa. The whole hotel is full of Kerry Hill's admiration for Bawa. They will be friends in heaven.
Amanwella is not big, a public area, a villa area, plus a sea view restaurant. The public area has a casual dining bar🍽️, a swimming pool🏊🏻♂️, a courtyard, and a library and boutique.
🍽️Casual dining bar
All-day, breakfast, lunch and dinner, afternoon tea, bar at night. The four-sided ventilation lobby does not need air conditioning at all. The price of food is really low, a set of afternoon tea is less than 100 yuan, and the hotel guests are completely free.
🛏️Villa
Amanwella has only 30 villas, each of which is a pool villa, built according to the sea side of the mountain. The 100m² large villa is very comfortable to live in. The room is designed with double-sided floor-to-ceiling sliding wooden doors + glass doors, with good lighting. The room has a sea view and a comfortable large balcony. Every day's night bed also has a surprise, one day is Ceylon tea, another day is a wooden small plate, all of which I brought home.
Although Amanwella is not big, there are coconut groves between several public areas, and the shuttle transportation needs to use TukTuk. This is also interesting. TukTuk is a "taxi" that is common in the streets and alleys of Sri Lanka. It is used as a hotel shuttle, which is very Sri Lanka.
🦒Activity
The characteristic activity of Amanwella is Safari. Within a range of less than 1.5h drive, there are two national parks. Uda Walawe National Park is all wild elephants🐘, while Bundala🐦 Conservation Area is a gathering place for migratory 🐦. Aman's Tour is a driver, a butler, a guide, plus me, is a proper sense of respect.

Sri Lanka | Staying at Aman by the sea is much better than going to Thailand
Sri Lanka, 😭 is really a tourist destination that has been misled by 'bankruptcy'. People who don't understand Sri Lanka, 🙈 think that being dirty, messy, and bad is synonymous with it, but in fact, there are three Relais & Châteaux hotels and two Aman resorts here! Please 💥, you should know that these hotels have a very sharp eye for location, and they are only built for those with money and taste, 🔜 otherwise they wouldn't even consider building vacation resorts here.

I personally prefer Amangalla among the two Aman resorts in Sri Lanka. 🏨 It is located within the walls of the 17th-century Galle Fort in Sri Lanka, 🚗 about 125 kilometers from the capital Colombo. This is a hotel converted from an old building, a three-story white European-style building, connected to ancient churches and streets, and the lookout tower on the lobby roof offers views of the distant harbor. On top of its unique colonial charm, there is also a relaxed and lazy atmosphere.
-
The hotel's main entrance faces the tree-lined path of Galle Fort, and between the entrance and the reception is a European-style corridor introduced to Asia by British colonizers. Enjoying British afternoon tea here is a perfect match! (✅Note: Only the basic afternoon tea is free, served with super-sized scones, which are almost too much to eat after dinner)

The hotel only has 30 villas, each one a pool villa, ensuring a sea view. The hotel's public area is not large, with a casual dining bar, a swimming pool, a courtyard, as well as a library and a boutique. It doesn't take long to visit, but each place is worth staying for a long time. To be honest, such a good hotel is an attraction in itself, even if you don't go out, that vacation feeling is instantly maxed out.

Amangalla has many activities, among which I want to talk about the Safari! Within less than a 1.5-hour drive from Amangalla, there are two national parks. Uda Walawe National Park is full of wild elephants, while Bundala Bird Sanctuary is a gathering place for migratory birds. If you go a bit further (2 hours by car), you can visit Yala, which is a paradise for leopards. Sri Lanka · Asia
