Arashiyama Bamboo Grove
Another must-visit check-in spot in Kyoto is the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. This tourist attraction is unique and has a long history. The highlight is the towering bamboo forest lining both sides of the path, creating a long walkway for tourists to stroll through.
Just a bit further, you'll come across Arashiyama Park. The atmosphere here is pleasant and visually appealing. The area preserves its ancient charm, and you can even take a rickshaw ride to enjoy the bamboo forest.

Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto! I had the matcha of my life.
After visiting Kiyomizu-dera during the off-peak season, I took a break at the highly popular Yun Cha nearby.
They say that if you don't have matcha in Kyoto, you might as well not have come. This matcha cloud cake is all over Instagram. It's as fluffy as a cloud ☁️ and as smooth as ice cream.
The other matcha tiramisu 🍰 is a perfect blend of the slight bitterness of matcha and the milky aroma of tiramisu. It's soft and fluffy, and a spoonful of it is a mouthful of happiness! Matcha lovers will definitely fall in love with it! 🍵
I also ordered the recommended ice cream yuzu soda 🍧. It's refreshing and not greasy, and it's the perfect match for matcha desserts!

Arashiyama: A Picturesque 'Kyoto Wonderland'
Arashiyama, located on the outskirts of Kyoto, is one of Japan's most famous tourist destinations. This scenic area, where mountains and waters meet, is not only beautiful but also rich in classical charm.
Strolling along the paths of Arashiyama, you are surrounded by lush greenery and swaying bamboo groves, creating a scene as enchanting as a landscape painting. The towering bamboo forest in the distance produces a pleasant 'rustling' sound in the breeze, offering a sense of tranquility. Being amidst the vast bamboo grove gives you a feeling of traveling through time, as if you were in ancient Kyoto.
In addition to its poetic natural scenery, Arashiyama is home to many ancient temple buildings, such as Tenryu-ji Temple, adding a strong cultural atmosphere. Visiting Arashiyama is a refreshing experience, making you feel as if you've stepped into an extraordinary 'Kyoto Wonderland.'

Guide to Arashiyama: A Day Trip from Kyoto, Japan 🇯🇵
Arashiyama is located about 30 minutes from the center of Kyoto. With its mountains and rivers, it’s often regarded as one of the most beautiful places to see the scenery in Kyoto. Save this guide for your next visit!
📍 Togetsukyo Bridge over the Katsura River ~ this has been an iconic landmark of Arashiyama for over 400 years. Offering incredible views of Katsura River, Arashiyama Mountain and the cherry blossoms and maples leaves when the seasons change.
📍 Arashiyama Bamboo Forest ~ the bamboo grove itself is quite small and often crowded. Arrive early in the morning to take photos with no one else around!
📍 Walk along the Oi River ~ another name for the incredible Katsura river. The water is so blue, it is a breathtaking sight. Head upstream for about 10 minutes and you’ll soon be away from the crowds and find some secret spots with beautiful scenery.

Kyoto Trip Guide: Shrines, Nature, Food & More!
Save this guide for your next trip to Kyoto in Japan!
📍 Arashiyama Bamboo Forest ~ take the metro 30 minutes to the West of Kyoto to Arashiyama. Arrive early to avoid the crowds in this peaceful forest.
📍 Kiyomizu-dera ~ potentially the most iconic shrine and temple in the city. With vibrant vermilion buildings and a beautiful view of the city, this shrine and the surrounding area is usually very busy.
📍 Nishiki Market ~ a long path that runs through the city, perfect for a rainy day. Here you can find freshly caught fish, bustling local restaurants and many souvenir shops.
📍 Engine Ramen ~ maybe I'm biased, but this is the best ramen I've ever eaten in my life. I went here more than 10 times during my stay in Kyoto and I think about it every day since I left.
📍 To-ji ~ this shrine has a tall wooden pagoda and can be seen from the paths nearby. Just a short walk down the hill from Kiyomizu-dera, be sure to take many photos of this incredible piece of history!

Spring for cherry blossoms🌸, autumn for maple leaves🍁, and summer is definitely for hydrangeas! Travelers in Kyoto and Osaka can choose to visit Sanzen-in Temple for flower viewing! Then take a stroll through the bamboo grove path, Tenryu-ji Temple, and Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama, and breathe in the fresh air😌 It's 100 times more interesting than staying in the city area!
To cover these two major attractions in one day, it might be difficult to come up with a convenient transportation strategy🥲 Poor planning can lead to unnecessary detours!! If there are no Japanese speakers among your companions, it's better to stick together (after all, making travel plans is really hard😭)
.
You can choose to depart from the Osaka city area or Kyoto city area, which makes the itinerary easier to arrange! (It's not necessary to be in Kyoto to go hhh)💰345+ for a full day of fun, 🈶️Chinese leader, super friendly to those who don't speak Japanese! In short, you don't need to worry about anything, just follow along and enjoy!
———
🗺️Itinerary
09:50 Depart from Kyoto city area
Take the bus from Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit to Sanzen-in Temple! You can even take a short nap💤 on the bus without worrying about missing your stop! If you're departing from Osaka, you need to board the bus one hour earlier at the Nihonbashi Station Exit 2 (08:40)
.
10:30 Sanzen-in Temple
Sanzen-in Temple is the most attractive place in Kyoto for me🤩 Few people, beautiful scenery, and the full view of green is really healing! Soaking in this natural oxygen bar is truly refreshing😌 In addition, there are thousands of hydrangea bushes at Sanzen-in Temple, and they are in full bloom now🥰 Especially beautiful (The Hydrangea Festival at Sanzen-in Temple is from June 9 to July 7)
.
13:30 Arashiyama
Arashiyama is a historic resort with lush greenery in summer that's truly beyond picturesque📷! The bamboo grove path, Nonomiya Shrine, Tenryu-ji Temple, the shopping street, and Togetsukyo Bridge are all must-visit spots! The one thing you can't miss in Arashiyama is the Sagano Scenic Railway🚂 Those who want to experience it can buy tickets on their own!
.
16:50 Return to Kyoto city area
You can only get off the bus where you boarded! (⚠️You cannot board in Kyoto and get off in Osaka)

Arashiyama in Kyoto
Kyoto's Arashiyama is truly picturesque no matter where you take photos. It was my first time experiencing the small train in Arashiyama, and it felt amazing. It's a pity that I didn't go during the cherry blossom season or when the maple leaves turn red, as it would have been even more beautiful. Despite the crowds when I visited, the most rewarding part was the breathtaking scenery that I could take in, making it an unforgettable memory.

A Must-Visit Itinerary for Your Japan Trip! There's a shade of green called Kyoto's summer
Unlike the delicate pinks of spring or the dazzling array of colors in autumn, Kyoto in the summer is a realm of cool, pure green. The many ancient temples and shrines hidden amidst the verdure are perfect spots for enjoying the cool breeze and scenic beauty. Among them, I particularly recommend the following route:
👉🏻Sanzen-in Temple — Kifune Shrine — Arashiyama
⭕Compared to the crowded Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Gion, the famous spots in Kyoto, Sanzen-in Temple and Kifune Shrine can be considered hidden gems. Although these two places have become more well-known in the past two years, the number of visitors is still not high due to the relatively inconvenient transportation.
⭕As one of the renowned temples in the northern area of Kyoto, Sanzen-in Temple not only boasts magnificent and exquisite ancient architecture, but its gardens, Seiryu-en and Jyuboku-en, are also a feast for the eyes, casting a spell that calms the soul. The tall, verdant maple trees complement the bright green moss, creating a lush ink painting scene, and in May and June, you can also see the hydrangeas in full bloom. Additionally, the famous red bridge stands out even more against the surrounding greenery, making for an excellent photo opportunity.
⭕Not far from Sanzen-in Temple is Kifune Shrine, which also has a long history. The red lanterns lining the stone steps leave a lasting impression, as if guiding the way to the realm of the gods. The shrine venerates the deities of rain and water sources, and visitors can draw omikuji fortune slips here. Interestingly, the fortunes only become visible when placed in the shrine's fountain.
⭕The summer in Arashiyama brings a more natural atmosphere than the Kyoto city center. The greenery on both sides of the Hozu River blooms like massive clouds, and away from the crowds, numerous ancient temples and shrines are nestled within, offering a tranquil path worth exploring at leisure.
⭕Due to the inconvenient transportation (long distances and the need for transfers), joining a day tour group is actually a better choice.
⭕In conclusion, whether you're traveling alone or with friends and family, this treasure of a day trip route is definitely something you should experience!

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto.
I just visited Arashiyama in Kyoto, and this place is truly an astonishing tourist destination! Arashiyama is famous not only for its natural beauty that changes with the seasons but also for its many historical buildings filled with Japanese charm. As one of Japan's major tourist destinations, Arashiyama has become increasingly popular with visitors in recent years.
The natural environment here is extremely rich, with the Oi River and the Arashiyama mountain range, as well as many famous spots for viewing autumn leaves and cherry blossoms. Whether it's the cherry blossoms in spring or the colorful autumn leaves, both are truly refreshing to the spirit.
In addition, Arashiyama has many historically valuable buildings and attractions, such as the Togetsukyo Bridge, Tenryu-ji Temple, the Sagano Bamboo Forest Path, the Nison-in Temple on Ogurayama, and the Iwatayama Monkey Park. These spots not only allow visitors to feel the unique cultural atmosphere of Japan but also to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery.

Kyoto, Japan | Dare you say it's not the cutest temple
🍁Tourists in Kyoto's Arashiyama are always in an endless stream, but few people go north from Arashiyama to visit deeper temples. Here hides a quiet and healing scenery, which is a place where you can find peace in the bustling Arashiyama. The most adorable temple recognized by the Japanese, 🍁Kyoto's 【Atago Nenbutsu-ji Temple】
🌟There are 1200 Arhats in the temple, some with their hands on their cheeks, some praying with their hands together, some wearing hats, some wearing pearl necklaces, and even one standing upside down, full of cuteness. 😢A bit indifferent, a bit joyful, a bit sad, it seems to hide the "various states of life in Kyoto" here.
🌟The name of a different sculptor is engraved behind each Arhat, which is contributed by many amateur sculptors under the guidance of a famous Japanese sculptor🐺.

Ueshima Coffee House is a two-storey shop located near to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and walk from the Saga-Arashiyama Station, it will be lesser than 600 m only (6-8 minutes walk). In fact, they are the dealer of the coffee beans and all the coffees they made are using those beans.
If you going to Arashiyama and would like to get a shelter from the cold weather after visiting all the tourist spots, this cafe will definitely the best choice for you. The ambience is super nice and instagrammable, or if you want to enjoy the street view, they are offering the outdoor seating as well!!!

MUST do in Kyoto - Arashiyama 🎋Groove
🎋 This is another iconic attraction in Kyoto. Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is very popular with tourists. If you want to avoid crowd, it’s best to come here around 6:30am.
The walk through the Bamboo Grove is quick, around 5 minutes. I will recommend to do the hike and explore the nearby temples and shrines.
You can also make your way to the rail track or down the river where you can get stunning picturesque scenery.

Arashiyama, Kyoto.
We had a great day in Arashiyama. It was a very hot day but the beauty of the countryside made it worth while. We also visited the Monkey Park which my children loved. Being able to feed the monkeys was a good experience. Also the view from Monkey Park was spectacular. Booked a really good Kyoto beef restaurant. The beef was amazing. I think we ordered everything that was on the menu.

Arashiyama Monkey park- Nice views
Nice monkey park, steep climb uphill about 20 mins from the entrance to get to the top. Worth the climb as the views are great and the monkeys were entertaining. Always hungry and loves to be fed. Quite harmless and will not attack or come close as long as you don’t maintain eye contact. Has a small playground for kids as well and a toilet up on top and a cooling room after the long climb. #arashiyama

There is also a cute Rilakkuma store that sells Arashiyama exclusive goods and you can also get adorable Rilakkuma treats there!

Getting There - train from kyoto to saga-arashiyama station
After visiting the bamboo groove, you will walk past a beautiful park. So stop for cherry blossom if it is spring. Then you should see Katsure River and the famous Togetsu-kyo Bridge. If you want, please queue for Arabica coffee outlet with the best view in the world. We would have queued if the queue wasnt that long. Cross the bridge for restaurants, hotel and monkey park.
We saw many couples taking bridal shots near the bridge. Thats how nice the views are!

located at Kyoto Japan, take the JR San-in or Sagano lines to Saga-Arashiyama Station.
one of the Kyoto finest park, Arashiyama park. it’s located near the famous bamboo forest but it’s so much more. my first time seeing autumn leaves in real life. wishing to see the next full bloom when I visit. falling leaves have an alluding charm. it’s very beautiful. you can take a boat ride near the river, drop by a tofu restaurant which sells excellent food (reservation needed) take a slow stroll from park to the bamboo groves. beauty is everywhere as long as you look hard enough, but in this case you don’t even need to try hard.

Arashiyama in Kyoto
Arashiyama is a place worth to visit, a walk in the forest
gives a unique feeling. And during a hot day, the
forest provides shade. There are beautiful temples
and temple gardens close to the forest, e.g., Tenryuji
temple. Pictures taken in the forest cannot quite
describe how beautiful it is from the inside and all the
sounds you hear in the forest. The city itself is also nice
to walk around. A bit later in fall the colors must be
amazing. There are lots of small shops and restaurants
to spend several hours in. The rickshaw rides also seemed to be popular, especially by young Japanese couples. Donot forget the other attractions in Arashiyama while you are there.

Arashiyama - Kyoto
#passionpassport
Arashiyama is the second-most important sightseeing district in Kyoto. It’s filled with temples and shrines, but the star attraction is the famed Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. The main street of Arashiyama, along with the famed Togetsu-kyo Bridge, which form the heart of Arashiyama, is nothing but a tourist circus. But, don’t despair. As quickly as you can, walk upriver to Kameyama-koen Park, or into Tenryu-ji Temple and on into the Bamboo Grove. There are beautiful places all around the Arashiyama , from its cute souvenir shops to people waking in traditional dresses. All looks so nice. #arashiyama #kyoto #travelinspiration #traveljapan #japantravel #amazingplace

Arashiyama (嵐山) is a pleasant, touristy district in the western outskirts of Kyoto. The area has been a popular destination since the Heian Period (794-1185), when nobles would enjoy its natural setting. Arashiyama is particularly popular during the cherry blossom and fall color seasons.
#togetsukyo Bridge is Arashiyama's well known, central landmark. Many small shops, restaurants and other attractions are found nearby, including Tenryuji Temple.

%Arabica needs no introduction, they are undoubtedly the most popular coffee shop in Kyoto. Although the store itself is quite small, this particular store is located at the most scenic part of Arashiyama, overlooking the historic Togetsukyo Bridge and Katsura River, where you can enjoy both their excellent coffee and the beautiful scenery.
If you’re visiting Arashiyama, do give it a try! It’s always better to come early to avoid queues.

Arashiyama is one of Kyoto’s top destination. Regardless of the season, there are always a lot of tourist coming here. The walking paths that cut through the bamboo groves make for a nice walk or even bicycle ride. The place is calm and relaxing even though there were a huge number of tourist. Still stunning!

Arashiyama is well known for its Bamboo Groove. Another thing that impressed me is the food. There are places to enjoy local food. I had a chance to taste delicious local halal food and found choices of food souvenir.

To see cherry blossoms in the spring, the famous scenic spot in Kyoto is Lushan. Even in the autumn, it is a famous spot to hang out at the maple leaves covered streets. And there is no ticket, and you can take the JR from the Kyoto train station, the Kintetsu or the bus, it is very convenient. If you take JR, you can take a sightseeing tour. It is convenient to take a walk near the bridge. The trails of wilderness along the way to see the maple leaves or cherry blossoms on both sides of the river. In these two seasons, the train tickets are released very early to buy; otherwise, the station tickets will be sold out soon, and the return trip can be taken off at Lushan Station. A tall bamboo forest is also very mesmerizing, I walked through the Tianlong Temple and Nomiya Shrine, crossed the Yueyue Bridge across Guichuan and went to see the words of Premier Zhou, and often met the women dressed in Kyoto as geisha, which was very interesting.
