A spontaneous trip to Chaozhou, a two-day and one-night guide
Taking advantage of the weekend, on a whim, I decided to go on a spontaneous trip. Destination - Chaozhou.
·
🚄About transportation: It's really convenient to travel from Xiamen to Chaozhou. The high-speed train goes directly to Chaoshan Station, taking just over an hour, and there are many trains available. Once you arrive at Chaoshan Station, you can take the K2 line, a direct bus, or a taxi to the ancient city. After arriving in the ancient city, it is recommended to rent a small electric scooter, which is really convenient. Make sure to rent a small one that you can ride directly into Paifang Street.
·
🚶About the route: Chaozhou West Lake - Xima Road - Paifang Street - Kaiyuan Temple - Guangji Tower - Guangji Bridge - Han Wen Gong Temple
1️⃣Chaozhou West Lake: A poetic and picturesque garden park.
2️⃣Xima Road: This hundred-meter-long old street can satisfy your food cravings. Both sides are lined with dense arcades, offering a variety of snacks.
3️⃣Paifang Street: The most bustling ancient street, featuring 22 Ming and Qing dynasty-style archways and Nanyang-style arcades.
4️⃣Kaiyuan Temple: Known as the 'First Ancient Temple in Eastern Guangdong,' it is simple, grand, solemn, and serene.
5️⃣Guangji Tower and Guangji Bridge: A three-story palace-style pavilion with a hip-and-gable roof, separated from Guangji Bridge by a road. Guangji Bridge is the world's earliest opening and closing bridge. When night falls and the lights come on, it becomes even more spectacular.
6️⃣Han Wen Gong Temple: A temple commemorating the Tang Dynasty writer Han Yu. You can climb to the top to see the scenery of the Han River.
·
🥘About food and drink:
✔️Shangxi Goose Feast: It is said that this restaurant originally operated in a market stall for over 30 years and has now moved to the residential area outside Paifang Street. The prices are clearly marked, and many locals come to buy as well.
✔️Guantang Chao Mansion Chen Beef Hotpot: How can you visit Chaoshan without eating beef hotpot? This beef hotpot restaurant is located next to Paifang Street and was recommended by a local friend. It has been open for more than ten years and has its own slaughterhouse, so the quality of the beef is guaranteed.
✔️Guantang Fresh Fish Sashimi: Located next to the residential area, the ingredients are freshly killed and prepared, very fresh. Once you try it, you'll get addicted! It's so delicious that you'll want to drink all the soup so good.
✔️Mengchen Phoenix Dancong Teahouse: When visiting Chaozhou, you can't miss the local Kung Fu tea culture. While wandering around, I discovered this Mengchen Phoenix Dancong Teahouse on Zhongshan Road. The whole environment is quiet and elegant, perfect for a tea break.
✔️Shuangsheng Rice Noodles: This is the only one, and it's very popular. I ordered a large portion of beef rice noodles, which had a lot of tender beef. Paired with Chaozhou's unique satay sauce and peanut sauce, it's really different and delicious compared to Cantonese rice noodles!
·
🏠About accommodation: I chose the Shiji Hotel by West Lake. The hotel just opened this year, so the equipment and facilities are very new. The rooms are also very clean and tidy, and most importantly, the location is great.

A new restaurant in Chaozhou! A beautiful Chinese restaurant that I can't stop praising!!
A new Chaozhou restaurant on Paifang Street in Chaozhou!
The first thing you see when you walk in is a wooden boat from Chaozhou Mansion🚢, which is great for taking photos!
I brought my family and elders here to eat, and they can't forget it... It's very authentic Chaozhou cuisine!
There are a variety of ingredients, everything you could want! We ordered a lot of things, including mixed grain stewed fish maw, garlic white jade clams, cumin crispy bones, golden soup lemon fish, old vegetable fried rice, Chaozhou oyster pancakes, beef ball soup... A full table, and it all tasted great!
Very authentic Chaozhou cuisine, suitable for group meals!
Family gatherings, weddings💒, company team building meals.
The taste is good, the ingredients are fresh, and the dishes are excellent! 😋
Friends who love Chaozhou cuisine can try this one‼️

Chaozhou, a city suitable for night markets
Chaozhou, a city suitable for night markets
A city in Guangdong province that you can visit on a whim. It's perfect for a weekend trip. Take a high-speed train in the morning, have a nap, and in the evening, stroll around Paifang Street. Delicious food 😋 and fun activities await.
The place isn't particularly large; the tourist spots are all close to each other, making it ideal for lazy travelers!
Unlike places where attractions are dozens of kilometers apart, here, they are just a few hundred meters away. When you're tired, find a shop to sit down and eat slowly. Hotels and food are not expensive. With a budget of 500 yuan per person, you can enjoy a leisurely weekend here!

Chaozhou Trip: Paifang Street and Kaiyuan Temple, also with Quanzhou flavor
👀 When you come to Chaozhou, Paifang Street and Kaiyuan Temple are definitely must-visit attractions!
🏮 Paifang Street is a street full of historical charm. In ancient times, paifangs were built to honor virtues and merits. The paifangs here are diverse in style and uniquely charming. In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, the Nanyang arcade architectural style was introduced, coexisting with the paifangs, forming a unique historical and cultural district.
Today, the restored Paifang Street connects many attractions, and there are ancient residential clusters inside. Walking on this street, you can feel the weight of history and taste various local delicacies, such as Chaozhou beef hotpot, guozi, and oyster omelette, allowing your taste buds to fully enjoy.
🛕 Kaiyuan Temple was built in the 26th year of the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty. The architectural layout is divided into the central axis, east side, and west side, with many buildings such as the Hall of Heavenly Kings. The stone scriptures and railings inside the hall are exquisitely carved, and there are also precious cultural relics on display.
😜 Interestingly, Chaozhou Kaiyuan Temple and Quanzhou Kaiyuan Temple have many similarities. These two cities have many connections in various aspects.
For example, in terms of historical relics, both have precious ancient buildings; their regional cultures are similar, carrying rich local characteristics; their dialects are similar, retaining ancient Central Plains Chinese vocabulary; in customs, life rituals, and seasonal customs have commonalities; in humanities, both have profound cultural heritage and are known as the "Zoulu by the Sea"; in opera, plays like "Chen San Wu Niang" are quite popular; in architecture, Chaozhou Guangji Bridge and Quanzhou Luoyang Bridge are both among the four ancient bridges in China.
💖 If you are interested in history and culture, Paifang Street and Kaiyuan Temple in Chaozhou are also good choices!

Dongguan—Chaozhou—Shantou—Four Days Three Nights Travel Guide
Main transportation:
Didi - Metro - High-speed Rail - Bus - Walking
Hotel: In Chaozhou, it is recommended to stay near Paifang Street, and in Shantou, near Xiaogongyuan/Longyan South Road/Wanxiang City.
👆Day1:
Didi - 20 minutes - to Tianbao Metro - 35 minutes - to Humen High-speed Rail Station - Exit D - Chaozhou Station go to Ticket Gate B (depart at 9:45) - more than 2 hours - Chaozhou Station (arrive in Chaozhou at 12:30) - follow the bus signs after exiting the station - find bus K2 express line and buy a ticket - Central Hospital (get off) depending on your hotel location - 40 minutes to the hotel - store luggage - 10 minutes walk - Abin Beef Hotpot (the first beef hotpot after getting off the high-speed rail) located in the tourist commercial street, not very cost-effective, saw Abin's advertisement after getting off the high-speed rail, tried it and found it mediocre.
👯After lunch, we strolled around Paifang Street, the commercial atmosphere is obvious🛍, passed by Guangji Tower, Kaiyuan Temple, crossed the road to Guangji Bridge, the bridge is dismantled every day, you can see the original form of 'crossing the river and dismantling the bridge', you need to buy a ticket to cross the bridge, ☀️it was too hot so we gave up crossing the bridge and went back to the hotel to check in.
🤗In the afternoon, we chose to order takeout at the hotel: Aunt Hua's Old Movie Juice Ice, Chao Tu Ji Fermented Bean Curd Chicken Wings, Banana Fruit Licorice Fruit, no disappointments, 🍧juice ice is delicious, 🍗chicken wings are crispy and well-marinated, licorice fruit is very fresh🍒 (recommended: peach, watermelon, green mango, local wax apple, etc.).
🍲For dinner, we originally chose A Rong Claypot Porridge which is within walking distance, but there was a queue, so we went to Pi Dan Di Claypot Porridge nearby, the shrimp and oysters were fresh, and there was beef ball soup made with a local bitter vegetable, paired with pickled vegetables and small oil cakes, absolutely delicious!
✌For breakfast on the second day, we went to A Chen Rice Noodles, there were too many people, waited for 10 minutes, not as good as online reviews, many varieties, the sauce for the rice noodles is peanut sauce with soy sauce, relatively special, the rice noodles are not thin, not very cost-effective. After breakfast, we strolled around nearby, randomly bought a bottle of oil plum juice, the owner was nice, the juice was delicious, refreshing, and had a sweet aftertaste.
🥩For lunch, we took a taxi to Guantang Brothers Beef Hotpot (main store), the driver said many locals go there, cost-effective, meat is freshly cut, fresh, finally beef freedom, so satisfying. Passed by Tai Buddha Hall, the driver said it has been built for thirty years, now finally popular, locals didn't know about this place, we didn't go because we don't like taking photos.
🚕After eating, we took a taxi to the Shantou hotel, taxi fare 90 yuan, 45 minutes journey, 10 yuan highway toll.
Arrived just in time to check in, in the afternoon we strolled around Zhujiang Road near the hotel, found that the food street only opens at night. If you like late-night snacks, don't miss Zhujiang Road.
🚗Then took a taxi to Xiaogongyuan, good for photos, but also very commercial, continued walking to the Post Office Headquarters, then walked to Shantou Hostel, many people taking photos here, if you like taking photos, you can take photos all the way, if tired, take a taxi to the Square Ferry, 1 yuan per trip, 2 yuan round trip. If you choose the right time, you can see a beautiful sunset. If you are physically strong, you can walk to Queshi Park and take the cable car back.
🍤For dinner, took a taxi to Heji Seafood for dinner, ordered fried clams, fried crab, salt and pepper mantis shrimp, marinated goose intestines, plus a bottle of drink, total 240 yuan, cost-effective, seafood is fresh. Will come again next time, after eating took a taxi back to the hotel.
👌For breakfast on the third day, randomly ate downstairs, all rice noodle shops had queues, chose dim sum, still prefer Dongguan's dim sum. After eating, took a taxi to Longyan South Road Food Street, Chen Duo Hua Qing Bu Liang, Wei Shun Salted Egg Yolk, downstairs Fermented Bean Curd Chicken Wings... too many delicious foods, lunch can be settled here directly.
👭After eating, took a taxi back to the hotel for a nap, continued ordering licorice fruit, No. 12 Juice Strawberry Ice, 🌮dinner at Zhujiang Road Food Street, Yongyi Soy Milk, ordered Grand Slam 12 yuan, Small Pan Fried Oyster, small portion 25 yuan, Zhujiang Rice Noodles, beef rice noodles 9 yuan. Dinner just ate a little, too full at noon.
🖖On the fourth day, because the high-speed rail ticket was at 10 am, breakfast was ordered rice noodles, tomato beef fried rice noodles, ginger sweet potato egg soy milk outside the hotel, order based on reviews and pictures, won't be disappointed.
⛳️Summary: Chaozhou is ancient and quaint, Shantou is full of life. Personally prefer Chaozhou, the food is similar. Next time two days and one night is enough.

Chaozhou Three-Day Extreme Tour (with tips to avoid pitfalls)
Super Girl's Weekend Extreme Tour to Chaozhou
Day one starts in the morning from Guangzhou South, arriving at Chaoshan Station at noon, then taking the high-speed rail tourism line (it's super hard to get a taxi at Chaoshan Station, we tried for a long time and finally chose the tourism line, 15 yuan per person which is acceptable) to Paifang Street.
📍Day One: Paifang Street — Guangji Bridge (you need to queue for a while, but it's not the peak season so the wait isn't long) — Hanwen Gong Temple — Wait by the river at 5:30 pm for the Guangji Bridge to be dismantled — Xima Road for dinner — Watch the light show on the banks of Guangji Bridge (there are shows at 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm)
📍Day Two: Kaiyuan Temple — Yi Garden — Qinglong Ancient Temple — Beef hotpot for lunch — Danfu Institute (it rained heavily so there were even fewer people, felt very serene and comfortable) — Xima Road to buy snacks back to the hotel
📍Day Three: Ji Lue Huang Gong Temple — West Lake Park — Looking for food (Eighteen Bend Fish Dumplings, Fan Sha Taro, Braised Goose, etc...) — Head home
🤤🤤Chaozhou must-eats: wheat cakes, Fan Sha Taro sweet potatoes, braised goose, almond tea, meat dumplings, beef hotpot, beef balls, sea stone flowers, seafood casserole porridge, licorice fruit, sugar onion thin pancakes!!
Note: ①Bring your student ID, most attractions offer half-price admission ②Places like Danfu Institute and Chaozhou Geological Park are on the mountains, it's hard to get a taxi when leaving, so try not to stay too late ③Cars and electric vehicles are not allowed inside the ancient city ④Make sure to leave the ancient city half an hour early to catch a taxi to Chaoshan Station for the return trip
Summary: When visiting Chaozhou, find a hotel in the ancient city, because all those attractions are inside the ancient city. Chaozhou really has a lot of delicious food!! You can eat different things every day, and compared to Paifang Street, Xima Road seems to have a slightly better cost-performance ratio for food, Paifang Street is a bit more expensive (to the extent that locals wouldn't go there), but I can still accept these.
❗️❗️But!! When I was about to leave Chaozhou and have my last meal, I wanted to eat beef slice Guo Tiao, so I planned to find a place on Paifang Street (because it was nearby). I found an older looking shop, went in and asked if they had beef Guo Tiao (at this time we just asked if they had it) the owner said yes, but when I looked at the menu it was beef ball Guo Tiao, I originally didn't want it, but he said he had already started cooking it, we hadn't even said whether we wanted it or not and he had already started cooking it, it was only two minutes from the time we came in to when we thought about leaving... Thinking about making do, beef balls then beef balls (Chaozhou's beef balls are really super delicious) but the beef balls in his bowl of Guo Tiao, were completely different from what I had at other shops, they tasted like the frozen hotpot ingredients beef balls from the supermarket downstairs of my house, my goodness, before this I always thought that there were no bad tasting beef balls in Chaoshan, this... And his Guo Tiao really disappeared after two chopsticks, I couldn't get full at all (and he charged me 25 yuan a bowl...)
Throughout the trip, the experience was very good, but the last meal left a bad impression, I'm really speechless
Really, don't think that older looking shops will be more authentic and affordable, especially on Paifang Street!!!!

Chaozhou Ancient City, a millennium-old city surrounded by delicacies and culture!
Chaozhou Ancient City, a millennium-old city surrounded by delicacies and culture!
Originally came for Chaoshan cuisine, but was captivated by the charm of this ancient city. Here lies China's largest ancient archway street, which although was rebuilt in 2006, still allows one to feel the glory of the past.
The arcade buildings on both sides of the archway street are filled with Nanyang style, a blend of Chinese and Western architecture, unique in its own right. Here, you can taste various Chaozhou delicacies and also enjoy intangible cultural heritage.
Recommended route: Guangji Bridge - Guangji Tower - Archway Street - Kaiyuan Temple - Xu Fu Ma Mansion - Huang Gong Temple.
There are 23 archways on Archway Street, each telling the story of Chaozhou's heroes, making one marvel at the wisdom and bravery of the ancients.
Guangji Bridge, which combines beam, pontoon, and arch bridges, is one of the world's earliest lift bridges, and its unique style is highly admirable.
As the entrance to Chaozhou Ancient City, Guangji Tower looks very majestic from below, giving one a sense of the city's historical depth.
When in Chaozhou, of course, you can't miss the food! Beef hot pot, raw pickles, rice noodle rolls, beef balls, oyster pancakes, fermented tofu chicken wings, rice noodle cakes, citrus juice... each dish is memorable, especially the fermented tofu chicken wings on Zhenqian Street, simply a heavenly delight!
TIPS:
1. Prepare stomach medicine and digestives in advance to alleviate the burden of delicacies.
2. There are many rickshaws near Archway Street, which you can hire to tour the eight great sights of Chaozhou for about 100 yuan, quite relaxing.
3. Chaozhou's shared electric bikes cannot reach the Guangji Bridge area, so don't ride them in when watching the light show.
🚄Transport: You can take the high-speed train to Chaoshan Station or fly to Jieyang Airport, then rent a car to Chaozhou, which is very convenient.
🏨Accommodation: It is recommended to choose a place near Archway Street for convenience in travel and dining. If you rent a car, you can also stay a bit further away where hotels are newer and offer better value for money.

Paifang Street
Paifang, the treasure of Chinese architectural culture, is not only a monument erected in feudal society to commend meritorious service, scholarly achievements, virtuous governance, and loyalty and filial piety, but also a witness to history and a carrier of cultural heritage. Among the numerous paifangs, the Paifang Street of Chaozhou is undoubtedly a unique and eye-catching presence. Here, between two streets, there stands a majestic paifang every 50 or 100 meters, as if telling the stories and history of the ancient city.
The characteristic architecture of Paifang Street—the arcade buildings—ingeniously blends Chinese and Western cultures. The 22 Chinese-style Ming and Qing stone paifangs and the Nanyang-style arcade buildings on both sides complement each other, forming a series of unique landscape paintings. These arcade buildings not only reflect the introduction of Nanyang architectural styles in the late Ming and early Qing periods but also showcase the unique understanding and creativity of the Chaozhou people in cultural exchange.
Strolling through the arcades of Paifang Street, you will find that the shops here are filled with a strong cultural atmosphere. Chaozhou's intangible cultural heritages, such as Chao embroidery, hand-pulled teapots, ceramics, and kung fu tea, are perfectly presented here. At the same time, various Chaozhou delicacies are mouth-watering: Chaozhou's three treasures, beef hot pot, rice noodle rolls, licorice fruit... Each bite is an exploration of the past and present of the ancient city of Chaozhou. In the streets and alleys of Chaozhou, there is a wide variety of food, and the decoration of the shops is also very visually striking. The Chaozhou people's attention to food is astonishing. Whether it's a 'beef ball' every three steps, a 'licorice fruit' every two steps, a 'Chaozhou three treasures' every five steps, or a 'raw fish' every ten steps, it all reflects the Chaozhou people's love and pursuit of good food. At the same time, the local tea culture and beverage innovation are unique contributions of the Chaozhou people to the food culture. Here, you can feel the charm and vitality of the ancient city of Chaozhou, as well as the Chaozhou people's love and pursuit of life.

Min Nan Charm with Nanyang Flavor --- A Great Place for a Date or a Leisurely Stroll
🚙 I set off from Chaozhou with my northern friend, driving to Fujian for a brief visit. Our first stop was Zhangzhou, which I remembered as a small city. However, the roads were wide, the greenery was well-maintained, and the buildings were tall, indicating the city's solid foundation. It's quite different from the organized chaos of my hometown Chaozhou .
🏡 Zhangzhou Ancient City is a well-preserved historical and cultural site within Zhangzhou, complete with an underground parking lot. The cultural landscape of the ancient city is rich, retaining many ancient temples and traditional streets, exuding a strong Min Nan and Nanyang fusion atmosphere. It's like an old lady with a heart of white and orange-red, speaking the ancient Chaozhou dialect (which is different from Min Nan dialect, and why Zhangzhou people speak Chaozhou dialect is a matter for investigation).
👉 We visited during a holiday, and the ancient city was lively but not crowded. There were quite a few cultural and creative shops; the cover photo was taken from the second floor of a bookstore. There were even more food-related businesses, and with the help of the integrated architectural background, the general mood was quite pleasant. We watched the night view of the ancient city from the second floor of a coffee shop, and a procession dressed in ancient costumes passed by, heading into the night, creating a somewhat eerie atmosphere...
👉 Walking around the ancient city, the street snacks were not much different from our Chaozhou snacks. The four-fruit soup was sweet and refreshing, and the mochi was surprisingly delicious, winning over my northern friend with its simple and pure taste.
👉 What made a deep impression was the truly ancient archways here (the ancient archways from the Ming and Qing dynasties have been restored), standing solemnly one after another, casting powerful shadows and giving a strong sense of historical vicissitudes. In contrast, our famous Paifang Street in Chaozhou now only has new archways (rebuilt based on historical images and remaining components of Chaozhou's ancient archways), which is regrettable.
❤️ Overall, with such charm and such a crowd, Zhangzhou Ancient City should be considered a rather low-key attraction in China, and it's free to enter, making it suitable for a casual stroll with a loved one, offering a unique charm.

Chaozhou Gourmet Check-in Edition
🤪Ever since I played the 'Flying Over Guangdong' attraction at the Sunac Park in Guangzhou, I've been incredibly attached to the Guangji Bridge 🤩
Today, I finally got to see the connection of those 18 boats
1⃣️ Guangji Bridge, one of the famous ancient bridges in China, has a middle section made up of 18 shuttle boats linked together to form a pontoon bridge that can open and close. When large ships or rafts need to pass, the pontoon boats in the middle can be disconnected to allow passage. There's a local saying: 'A trip to Guangdong is incomplete without visiting Chaozhou; a visit to Chaozhou is in vain without seeing the bridge.' So my trip was not in vain, as every day at 17:30, part of the boats in the middle section are moved aside to let the big ships through! Of course, I had to watch this before leaving, 🎫 tickets are 20 yuan per person, available upon arrival! The ticket also comes with a postcard, postage included, and I've already sent it back home and received it!
2⃣️📍Chaozhou Clay Pot Porridge, don't eat at the shops near the scenic area, they're not good at all. Walk a bit further to find food, obviously I ate near the scenic area, but then a kind young lady told me the above, friends, you'll have to search on your own
3⃣️📍Paifang Street, truly lives up to its reputation, walk all the way to the 'Number One Scholar' 🥇 archway at the end, endless archways, you must walk to the end! Walking down the street feels like Guangzhou's Shangxiajiu, haha, since I'm here, I've checked in!
4⃣️Try a Chaozhou tea drink: 📍'Xi Pian · Chao San Yi' Their tea jelly is very delicious, and they also offer express delivery! If you come to the ancient city, why not look for them? Here's the young lady I mentioned, she recommended to me where to find delicious clay pot porridge, want to know? Go find her, find her shop!
5️⃣Xima Road Snack Street
Super many snacks, and various internet-famous shops
✅ Cheap egg wine ✅ Kick peach ✅ Chaozhou fermented bean curd chicken wings ✅ Braised goose ✅ Licorice fruit🍉……
6️⃣Chaozhou West Lake
Near Xima Road, a local park, just stroll around
Additionally, there are many electric bicycles🚲 that need to be returned to designated locations. Once you reach Xima Road and the vicinity of the ancient city, you can't ride anymore, everyone please pay attention⚠️

A one-day tour of Chaozhou with me guarantees no dining mishaps
A one-day foodie itinerary in Chaozhou:
Departing from Xiamen, Chaozhou Station is your first stop, just an hour's drive away.
🚗 Take a taxi straight to Guantang Brothers Beef Hotpot (main store), where the hotpot is really delicious! Highly recommended! The average cost per person is over 70 yuan, the beef is tender and fragrant, and you must visit the main store!
🏯 Next, head to the Thai Buddha Temple, dress up in ancient costumes for a photo shoot📸 A wonderful experience for just 40 yuan for a costume rental.
🛵 Then take a 15 yuan trishaw across the river to Paifang Street; the 'Qicong Song Licorice Fruit' at the entrance of Paifang Street is the tastiest, you can't go wrong choosing it! It's much cheaper than in Xiamen and even more delicious!
🚲 Ride an electric tricycle to tour the ancient city of Chaozhou, 40 yuan per person on average. You can visit more distant attractions, stop whenever you want, and get explanations: visit Jia Di Alley to see the mansion of a top official; make a prayer at the ancient Kouchi Temple, wash your hands in the ancient well for clear vision; visit the Fuma Mansion (super photogenic at the entrance); then ride back to Paifang Street.
🍽 Randomly find a small shop along the way to try the Fucheng fermented tofu chicken wings➕ Lao Wei Almond Tea, a bit regretful, ate too much, should have saved some room for dinner.
🍵 Take a walk to Guangji Tower, to see the Guangji Bridge; afterwards, visit Tianyuan Temple, and nearby 'Tianshan Chaoming' to drink authentic Chaozhou Kungfu tea, the peach-flavored tea is so delicious! An entire afternoon and you'll feel completely relaxed!
🦀 Finally, head to 'Yuan Dan Wine Ingredients', recommended by local friends as the best raw marinated shop, and indeed they were right, the raw marinated crab paste is only a hundred yuan or so, and it's incredibly tasty! Then, take away food from the nearby 'Xikou Liu Bu Goose Meat Shop', have porridge with goose meat and goose liver, oh my, so tender and fragrant!
🍊 Buy a cup of fresh squeezed kumquat juice at the intersection, then take a taxi to the high-speed train station to go home. The high-speed train at seven something arrives in Xiamen at eight something.
For friends with limited free time, such a one-day round trip is perfect! Although it's only an hour's drive, it's actually a cross-provincial trip! Got to eat everything I wanted! Saw everything I wanted to see! Perfect!

A city with a humanistic atmosphere
Brief introduction
Chaozhou Paifang Street is located in the center of the ancient city, and is a cultural ancient street that integrates intangible cultural heritage, traditional crafts, and special snacks. The characteristic architecture of Paifang Street is the arcade building of Chinese and Western style. The 22 Chinese-style Ming and Qing stone archways stand with the Nanyang-style arcade buildings on both sides, and the arcade buildings with Nanyang architectural style introduced in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties form a unique overseas Chinese style. The shops in the arcade of Paifang Street mainly revolve around Chaozhou's intangible cultural heritage: Chaozhou embroidery, hand-pulled pots, ceramics, kung fu tea, etc., as well as Chaozhou cuisine: Chaozhou three treasures, beef hot pot, rice noodles, licorice fruit...
Chaozhou Paifang Street is a unique cultural landscape in the country
Tickets are free
It's a very long street, it's recommended to wear light and comfortable crocs for walking, so it won't be tiring

These days in Chaozhou
Just passing by Chaozhou, didn't make any specific travel guide, just share it simply
Day 1: Arrived at noon and went to Guantang for beef hot pot (Guantang Brothers Beef Hot Pot Shop), then went straight to Chaozhou Ancient City (including Kaiyuan Temple, Street Archway, Guangji Tower, Guangji Bridge) Eat, drink, visit, take photos during the day + watch the night view at night, there is a light show at Guangji Bridge at 8 o'clock in the evening, don't miss it
Day 2: At noon, I ate the beef noodles with satay sauce recommended by netizens, and then went to the Thai Buddha Hall opposite the ancient city. There is no admission fee, and Thai clothes are available for rent (about 30r), you can take big Thai-style photos. There is an observation deck on the mountain behind the Thai Buddha Hall, you must climb up to take a look, walk to the Han River to watch the sunset in the evening, the Han River is really beautiful, it's so leisurely to walk and shoot.
Food section: Fermented tofu chicken wings and fermented tofu cake (if you like to eat fermented tofu, you can try it, I think it's okay), salty rice cake (it's rice cake with salty radish, we call it differently 😆), raw salted (famous I didn’t go to eat, such as Jia Zhipai, I searched for the recommendation of netizens, a shop called Shang Thai Wine on the road outside the ancient city, suitable for friends who want to try, they have small portions), local sugarcane juice can also be drunk

A paifang, also known as a pailou, is a traditional style of Chinese architectural arch or gateway structure. Evolved from the Indian subcontinent's torana through the introduction of Buddhism to China, it has developed many styles and has been introduced to other East Asian countries, such as Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.

There are 91 historical records in Chaozhou's archway. There are 39 arches of different names on Guangtaiping Road. The scale is large, the style is unique, and the momentum is extraordinary, so it is known as the Palace Street. The archway street we have seen so far has been refurbished and built, with less traces of history. As a foodie, the gourmet snacks that sweep the entire archway are always better than the ancient monuments. So that after an afternoon of shopping, I ate an afternoon, never stopped! I didn't see digest at dinner time, so the dinner was omitted.
archway, the feudal society is a building for the merits, the Kodi, the government, and the loyalty and filial piety. There are also some temples that use the archway as the gate, and others to mark the place names. Also known as the archway building, it is a door-and-hole commemorative building that promotes feudal ethics and advertises merit. The archway is also an affiliated building of the ancestral hall, showing the noble virtues of the family ancestors and the great achievements of the ancestors.
