Shizuoka | Must-visit spots in Atami in autumn
There are many places to visit in Atami, but if you're visiting in the fall, we recommend Atami Plum Garden.
Atami Plum Garden is originally a famous plum blossom spot.
There are about 400 plum trees in the garden, and they are at their best from February to March.
But in the fall, the leaves change color and are especially beautiful!
Once you've enjoyed viewing the autumn leaves, try some matcha at a teahouse in the garden.
Of course, since you're in Atami, it's easy to enjoy sightseeing by stopping by a nearby hot spring on your way home or eating some delicious food.
Access is also very good, about 15 minutes on foot from Atami Station ◎

Atami Plum Garden
#2024wish
Atami Baien, or Plum Garden is one of the best gardens in Japan. It is well-known for its early blooming trees but has both mid and late bloomers so the blossoms can be enjoyed over a long period. Within the grounds there is a man-made waterfall that you can walk behind and view the garden and a wooden bridge through the water., There is also the Sawada Seiko Memorial Museum, Korean Garden and Nakayama Shinpei Memorial Hall. Sawada was a well-known sculptor and painter from the Atami area and Nakayama was a songwriter. Entrance fee to the park is 300 yen but if you are a resident of Atami or staying at one of the hotels/ryokans, then it is just 100 yen. If you plan on visiting the Museum of Art (very worthwhile), keep your ticket stub since this will give you a 300 yen discount on the entrance fee.
I want to travel Atami again in 2024.

Atami, in Shizuoka Prefecture, is a 45-minute ride from Tokyo Station on the Kodama Shinkansen (¥4,070); otherwise, it takes just under two hours on the Tokaido line (¥1,980). At Atami Station, transfer to the Ito line for Kinomiya Station (2 minutes; ¥150). From there, it is a 10-minute walk to the gardens. You can also catch a bus (15 minutes; ¥230), which runs four times an hour, direct to the gardens from bus stop no 1 in front of Atami Station; get off at the ‘Baien’ stop.

autumn vibes at Atami Plum Garden
#fallishere
Saw some of autumn's best colours here at the Atami Plum Garden. We joined a day tour which covers here. Initially we thought this place will be nicer in spring for the plum blossoms, but lo and behold as we walked in, the autumn colours start to show! It was really nice! There were lots of locals taking photos as well.
Entrance is free so do consider to drop by if you are in Atami!
Getting There - self drive or hiring a local driver would be ideal! You would have to change a couple of trains if you come here from tokyo
