Bailuzhou Park: A Poetic Urban Oasis in Jiangnan
Bailuzhou Park, with its beautiful Jiangnan garden scenery, adds a touch of tranquility and poetry to the historic city of Nanjing. Located by the Qinhuai River, the park is built around water, with small bridges, flowing streams, and winding paths that make visitors feel as if they are in a scene from ancient poetry.
Strolling along the willow-shaded paths, the river reflects pavilions and towers, and egrets occasionally fly by, adding a touch of vitality. The park is even more enchanting at night, with the illuminated waterfront creating a dazzling display, as if transporting visitors back to the bustling Qinhuai of a thousand years ago. It is both a great place for locals to relax and an ideal spot for tourists to experience the cultural heritage of Nanjing.

Nanjing's hidden gem, Bailuzhou Park.
👏 Bailuzhou Park is one of the "Forty Scenic Spots of Jinling." It was the back garden of the Xu family, a family of meritorious officials during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, and is also known as Xu Zhongshan Garden.
👏 The park has a lake island called Bailu Island, which is surrounded by water on all sides. The island is home to Xiexiu Pavilion, which offers a panoramic view of Bailuzhou from the lakeside pavilion. It is also a great spot for taking photos. The island is also mentioned in Li Bai's poem, "Three mountains fall beyond the blue sky, two rivers divide Bailuzhou." Don't miss the bamboo path that leads to the lotus pond (the best time to visit is from June to August, when the lotus leaves and flowers sway in the wind).
‼️ If you have time, don't miss Jiufeng Zen Temple in the northeast corner. The temple has a history of over 1,600 years and was built in the fifth year of the Tianshun period of the Ming Dynasty. It is said to be named in honor of the famous Tang Dynasty monk Jiufeng. The temple's drum tower and yellow walls are ancient and elegant, and the incense burner emits a faint blue smoke. You can quietly admire the unique ancient architecture and stone carvings.
👏 (Note: Closes at 5:00 pm)
📍 Address: No. 1 Bailu Village, Pingjiangfu Road, Qinhuai District
🚌 Bus: Bus 23, 26, 33, 38, 43, 81, 87, 88, 301, 304, 703, 706 (Wudingmen Station) Subway: Line 3, Wudingmen Station
🚗 Self-driving: West Gate Parking Lot or Zhonglian Commercial Plaza Underground Parking Lot
⏳ Opening hours: 6:00 am–10:00 pm / Visit time: 2 hours
Many ancient-style photos are taken here. It is recommended to visit in the early morning or evening when the light is soft. The stone corridor bridge and docked boats make for a beautiful scene.

Dreams fall on the White Egret Isle of Jinling
A city without parks is incomplete. 'Three mountains half beyond the green hills outside, two waters divide the White Egret Isle,' this place is unforgettable to the immortal poet Li Bai.
It is a quiet corner amidst the hustle and bustle, a picturesque bridge among willows, a boundless expanse of greenery that fills the eyes with beauty.
Here, one can travel through time and find the fragrance of flowers; here, one can slow down and catch a glimpse of the distance.
Over a hundred years of time have accumulated, layering the stories of generations, condensing everyday life into this space. As time flows, parks are no longer just a pastime for the middle-aged and elderly; strolling in parks has become a new trend.
Willow trees and painted bridges exude the gentle temperament of the south of the Yangtze River, winding paths lead to secluded spots, and the eyes are filled with lush greenery.
Indeed, this is the White Egret Isle Park, one of the 'Forty Scenic Spots of Jinling'.
Only a quiet path separates this place from the White Egret Isle Park, and one would generally not come here without paying attention. Blue bricks, white walls, glazed tiles, and small bridges over flowing water, this is the 'Ten Miles of Qinhuai' with the sound of oars and the shadow of lights.
Underneath the Ming city wall, one can stroll here, pause for a rest with friends, and enjoy the oars and lights before their eyes, where a casual snapshot captures the full essence of the Jiangnan atmosphere.
Love at first sight, and even more so upon the second. Standing alone here, looking at the rippling blue waves, one's heart can't help but grow still.

Nanjing Summer Night Tour Map—Don't miss the last May of the Qinhuai Lantern Festival!!
🏮"Children, come out to play with the lanterns, we don't need red, we don't need green, we just need a little candle," this nursery rhyme is the memory of many Nanjing children's childhood! The Qinhuai Lantern Festival is no longer limited to the Spring Festival period, and this year it has been extended to May. Why not avoid the peak and the hot daytime, and find a night to enjoy the lanterns?! These three places are a must-visit this year!
1. Bailuzhou Park
🖼Because of Li Bai's poem "The two waters divide Bailuzhou," this place is called Bailuzhou, but what he wrote was about the Yangtze River, which has nothing to do with this place! However, the park's Bailu Island, Jiu Feng Temple, and other relics, as well as the newly built and restored various small bridges, create the charm of the gardens of the south of the Yangtze River. It is also a waterway that connects the Qinhuai inside the Confucius Temple and its painted boats! It has become an important sub-venue of the Qinhuai Lantern Festival during the New Year period in Nanjing! Look, the lanterns are already set up, just waiting for the arrival of the Spring Festival!! With such beautiful scenery, how can you miss photography?!
📍Location: 174 Changle Road, Qinhuai District
🚗Transportation: Direct access from Wudingmen Station on Metro Line 3!
2. Laomendong
🏯The ancient streets and alleys have witnessed the cultural heritage of Nanjing city. Here, it used to be a gathering place for craftsmen to hone and exchange skills. And now, it is one of the main venues of the Nanjing Qinhuai Lantern Festival. Walking into the two rows of lanterns before entering Laomendong, by telling the cultural history of Nanjing, it digs into the folk cultural memory of the old city south and highlights the characteristic charm of the historical and cultural district.
🏮Once upon a time, going to the Confucius Temple to buy a lotus lantern was called celebrating the New Year, and if the conditions were better, pulling a rabbit lantern was even more "showy," and you could show off in front of your friends for a long time. Seesaws, herding goats, and eagles catching chicks were also the childhood fun that we, the post-80s, used to play! Here is the Chinese New Year of old Nanjing. There are also authentic Nanjing snacks and the atmosphere of the streets and alleys of the old city south!
🏘And at night in Laomendong, the lanterns are as bright as day, and the visitors are like a weaving. Along the city wall, the Laomendong exhibition area is all about lanterns!
3. Confucius Temple
📍The Dacheng Hall is in the most central area of the Confucius Temple, directly opposite the Tianxia Wenshu Archway across Gongyuan Street, and the Ju Xing Pavilion (Zhuangyuan Pavilion) on the left is also the most historical building in the Confucius Temple, echoing the Kui Xing Pavilion on the west side.
🏮Every year during the Confucius Temple Lantern Festival, the Dacheng Hall is the main venue with the most lanterns, and this year is no exception. The circular arch in front of the Lingxing Gate, Zhuangyuan, dragon, lotus lanterns, and other traditional elements of the Confucius Temple complement each other. And inside, it's waiting for the "All Lanterns Hold the Moon" on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month!
📍Location: The west gate of Zhanyuan Road, the north gate of Jiankang Road, and the east gate of Pingjiangfu Road are all accessible.
💰Except for the Dacheng Hall and the Imperial Examination Museum, no tickets are required!
🚗Metro Line 3 Confucius Temple Station, Wudingmen Station can be reached! It is recommended not to drive!

The spring light casts reflections on the White Egret Isle
"Egrets dance around the isle, green shades envelop the painted bridge. The scenery of Yun Dang is beautiful, the flowers are lovely, and the people are even more charming." The beauty of White Egret Isle is mesmerizing, making one linger and forget to return.
Especially during the transition from spring to summer, the Nanjing White Egret Park is bright with spring light and the reflection of lanterns. Strolling by the water, the scenery changes with every step.
"White Egret Fragrant Isle" was originally the estate of the descendants of Xu Da, the Prince of Zhongshan during the Ming Dynasty, and with its exquisite natural scenery, it ranks among the 'New Forty Scenic Spots of Jinling'.
Tickets | General admission to the scenic area, free before 10:00 AM in spring
Address | No.1, Bailu Village, Fuzimiao, Qinhuai District
Bus | Subway Line 3 to Wudingmen Station

This is a good place to relax during the day! As soon as night falls, the lights are on, it becomes the prosperous age of Jinling, the night view is very beautiful, it is really worth looking forward to

Brilliant lights, dragon dances in Jinling - the lantern festival adventure in Bailuzhou Park
In Nanjing, this ancient yet modern city, whenever the bells of the festival ring, there is always a place, with its unique charm, attracting countless eyes and footsteps. This time, it is Bailuzhou Park, where a grand event of lights and dreams is being staged.
It was a chilly night, and I embarked on a journey to Bailuzhou Park. With the fall of night, my heart was full of anticipation for the upcoming lantern festival. The ticket price had not yet risen, this was a rare opportunity, I entered this world of brilliant lights from the west gate with a heart of awe.
At first, I was just wandering around, but soon, I was deeply attracted by the scene in front of me. The lights flowed like water in every corner, decorating the ancient buildings, the quiet lake surface, and the dancing shadows of the trees as if in a dream. Every step, every scene, made me feel the joy of the city changing its New Year's skin.
The most unforgettable were those lifelike lanterns. They are not only the art of light, but also the crystallization of the craftsmen's hard work. Dragons soaring in the sea of clouds, phoenixes dancing in the sky, each lantern has its own story, each lantern is telling the charm of the national style and trend.
I felt as if I was in a dream world, the dragon-shaped installation under the lights was particularly eye-catching. It twisted and turned, as if it would break through the sky at any moment, taking me to the unreachable fairyland. Standing in front of the dragon, I felt an indescribable excitement and pride. This was not only a visual feast, but also a baptism of the soul.
As time passed, the crowd gradually increased, but it did not feel crowded. I spent an hour and a half touring around, but it felt like time flew by. Every time I looked back, there was a new beautiful scene in my eyes, which made people linger.
This lantern festival is not only a celebration of the festival, but also a display of the culture of the city of Nanjing. It allows us to see the perfect integration of tradition and modernity, and feel the infinite charm of the national style and trend. On such a night, I seemed to see the soul of Nanjing, it was jumping in the lights, blooming in the laughter.
When I left Bailuzhou Park, I was full of reluctance. But I knew that this experience would become the most precious part of my memory. Because here, I not only saw the dragon, but also saw the passion and vitality of a city.
The article ends here, but the story is just beginning. If you also long to witness this beauty with your own eyes, why not come to Bailuzhou Park in person and become a part of this brilliant light. Here, everyone can find their own touch and joy.

Check-in at the lesser-known lantern viewing spot in Nanjing - Bai Lu Zhou Lantern Festival
🏮 The design of the lantern festival is unique, with elements of traditional culture and the inspiration of modern art. The colorful Shangyuan Lantern Festival fills the entire park with the flavor of the New Year. Bai Lu Zhou Park
The lights start at 5 o'clock in the evening, and there are many tourists after 6 o'clock. It is recommended to go on non-weekend times. Every half an hour in the evening, there will be a light show➕water curtain performance. The entire lantern festival is very spectacular. Compared with the famous Confucius Temple and Old Gate East, there are already fewer people in Bai Lu Zhou Park, it is easy to take pictures, it is very worth a visit!

A lesser-known park known only to locals in Nanjing, located on the banks of the Qinhuai River
Bailuzhou Park, located in the bustling Confucius Temple Qinhuai River scenic belt, is a very niche city park
Only locals would go, few tourists from other places. The park is quiet, local elderly people often come here for morning exercises and chess, and there are Qinhuai River cruise ships to take.
Strictly speaking, this is a Jiangnan garden. In the old times, it also had a name called Dongyuan. It was once the villa of Xu Da, the founding hero of the Ming Dynasty. The garden is winding and lush, with small bridges and flowing water. The ancient Jiangnan style is full, but it is also atmospheric.
The gentle temperament of Jiangnan and the settled imperial temperament of Jinling have permeated history into the lives of every ordinary person. Walking slowly here, you will fall in love with the city of Nanjing even more.
