Beijing Day trip - fresh mountain air ⛰️
Baipu temple
We managed to go on a perfect blue sky day when Beijing was really showing its best self. It is about 84km from Sanlitun area in Beijing and we took a mini van to get there for a day trip. It’s located in the west of Beijing in Mentougou district. It took us about 2 hours to go and a little more to come back because of the traffic.
The signature building is as cool in real life as it is on pictures. Absolutely worth a trip if you like taking pictures and walk around. The place is surrounded by mountain and there are a few hikes you can do in the area. In my group of friends some of us went up to one of the peaks and some of us relaxed by the temple.
Although it’s a long drive to get there it was completely worth it in my opinion. Have been wanting to go for a long time and finally founds some friends that came along.
We were recommended to bring our own food so we had a picnic in the sun outside a very nice tea restaurant. They let us eat our food as long as we bought some drinks. 2-3 hours is enough time to walk around.

Hidden in the deep mountains, the most magical and evil temple in western Beijing.
🍁 Baipu Temple is located in the mountains of Yanchi Town, Mentougou District, Beijing. It was once granted the name "Jinyinshan Baipu Shoufeng Zen Temple" because it is backed by a waterfall. It was built in the early years of the Liao Dynasty and is a Liao Dynasty ancient temple with a history of more than 900 years, where Buddhism and Taoism coexist.
🍁 Baipu Temple faces south, and only the mountain gate, the Mahavira Hall, and the Linggu Pagoda of Master Yuanzheng remain, while the rest are newly built buildings. Among them, the pagoda of Master Yuanzheng, the founder of the temple and a high monk of the Huayan Sect, has been preserved since the Liao Dynasty, with a history of nearly a thousand years. It is also the only thousand-year-old cultural relic left in the temple.
🍁 The pagoda of Master Yuanzheng is stable in shape and rare in form. It is a masterpiece among the dense-eaves pagodas of the Jin Dynasty, providing physical materials for the study of modern Buddhist architecture.
📌 The architectural style of Baipu Temple is extremely unique. It is said that Baipu Temple is also called the evil temple because the offerings and statues here are beyond the imagination of ordinary people. Many Buddha statues are built outside the halls or on the roofs of the halls, with exaggerated shapes, burly bodies, exquisite carvings, and rich colors.
📌 For example, in the Temple of the God of Cars, the God of Cars is not in the hall but on the roof of the hall, with a red body, glaring eyes, and exposed fangs. The shape is so terrifying and exaggerated, forming a sharp contrast with the kind-looking monks.
🍁 The statues of Baipu Temple have extraordinary mystery and magic, which makes people feel an unparalleled shock.

Beijing's Favorite Temple | Make a wish and it will come true!!!!!!!
🎈Recently, I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the little things in life😫, and I've been looking for a place where I can find some peace of mind. So, I thought about going to a temple to pray for blessings, and that's when I came across the Bai Pu Temple in Beijing.✨
Bai Pu Temple is an ancient temple from the Liao Dynasty with a history of over 900 years, dating back to the early years of the Qiantong period of the Liao Dynasty. It is located in Mentougou District, Beijing, and it usually takes about 1-2 hours to drive there from Beijing. Currently, there is no admission fee, and the parking fee is CNY 10.💰
🎯The architecture of Bai Pu Temple is unique, with a bold and gorgeous style, vibrant colors, and a strong visual impact. As soon as you enter the temple, it feels like you've stepped into a magical world. Netizens have called it the "Number One Fantasy Ancient Temple". There are many must-see attractions here:🌟
💫Yunlei Pavilion: The beautifully decorated building is surrounded by green water, with "Five Dragons and Two Phoenixes" surrounding the statue of the Buddha, and a deep and profound 365 Peace Bell.🔔
🙏Great Buddha Hall: The core of the temple, where you can feel the solemnity and tranquility of Buddhist culture.
🕳Guanyin Cave: A statue of Guanyin built in a natural cave, mysterious and solemn.
🚗Car God Temple: It enshrines the Horse-headed Guanyin, who protects safe travels, and is very attractive to motorcycle enthusiasts.🏍️
🗼Thousand Buddha Pagoda: The pagoda is finely carved, with a Buddha statue on each floor, and is a landmark building of Bai Pu Temple.
⛰️Four-faced Bodhisattva: Located halfway up the mountain, overlooking the entire temple, the four-faced Bodhisattva represents the Bodhisattva of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China, and is surrounded by Nezha, Guan Er Ye, and other gods and immortals, with a rare layout.👀
Bai Pu Temple is very effective for praying for blessings, but please note when worshiping the Buddha:
1. When bowing to the Buddha, your palms should be facing up so that you can receive the Buddha.
2. Don't point with your fingers when facing the Buddha, use your whole palm, with the center of your palm facing up.
💖A little bit of travel experience: Recently, I've been feeling a bit anxious, and I was initially attracted by the beautiful scenery. The moment I entered the temple, I naturally felt calm, and I highly recommend it to anyone who's been feeling down lately~ It's definitely worth it to take half a day to relax and clear your mind.😌

Beijing Baipu Temple|Travel through a thousand years of memory and enter a magical world‼️
If you were to name the most mysterious place in Beijing, what would come to your mind first⁉️ For me, it would definitely be the thousand-year-old Baipu Temple.
Last weekend, I went to Baipu Temple with friends, and every visit brings me a different surprise.
Baipu Temple was built during the Liao Dynasty, and it has a history of over 900 years. The temple is surrounded by ancient trees, terraced fields, and numerous fruit trees. The natural environment is beautiful, and the temple's serene and unique atmosphere makes it a perfect place to visit with family and friends.
Address: Yubai Village, Yanchi Town, Mentougou District, Beijing
Opening hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
‼️Features of Baipu Temple
☁️Baipu Temple is different from other temples. It is a magical ancient temple located in the suburbs of Beijing, in Mentougou District. The architecture and scenery are truly pleasant, especially in spring and summer, with lush greenery and flowers that are refreshing to the soul.
☁️Here, you can see statues of Bodhisattvas on four sides, but you can only see three of them:
Guanyin Bodhisattva: Savior of the suffering
Samantabhadra Bodhisattva: Practice of vows
Manjushri Bodhisattva: Wisdom
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva: Vows
However, you cannot see Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva because it is dangerous to go up, and it has never been open to the public.
☁️The Yunlei Pavilion is very magnificent, and you can even see koi fish. It truly feels like a fairyland. The scenery changes with different perspectives, and you can take photos here, but pets are not allowed as it is a temple.
☁️If you have the chance, you must try the vegetarian meal here. It may not be lavish, but it has a unique flavor.
🌈No entrance fee, only a parking fee is charged.
Parking is available at the Car God Temple, which is convenient for cyclists.

A mountain, a temple, a bodhi, the chant of Sanskrit faintly crosses over the peaks
Accompanied by a charming ray of sunshine, a gentle breeze caresses the face as one walks through the mountains of Mentougou Yanqi Town. The air is fresh and pleasant, like a sweet spring, instantly rejuvenating the spirit. The early summer scenery here is particularly enchanting, with lush trees beside the road, dripping with green vitality, presenting a vibrant scene. Although it is only eight in the morning, one can continuously encounter cyclists and mountain runners on the road.
The ancient temple of a thousand years, Bai Pusi (White Waterfall Temple), is quietly nestled in the valley of Yanqi Town. Immersed in the solemn and respectful temple, amidst the tranquil atmosphere and the lingering sound of Buddhist chants, this place is a pure land away from the hustle and bustle of the world.
The red walls and black tiles of the temple, set against the backdrop of green mountains and waters, exude a subtle beauty of simplicity.
The architectural features of Bai Pusi are unique, with distinctive structures such as the Horse Head Guanyin, Nine Dragon Wall, and Yunlei Pavilion within the temple, as well as precious cultural relics like the temple's treasure, Master Yuanzheng, and the Linggu Pagoda. The magical architecture here attracts a large number of curious tourists for visits.
Bai Pusi has no admission fee, and parking is not limited in time, costing 10 yuan per vehicle. As you approach the destination, there are several sections of the road undergoing maintenance. Whether you are driving or cycling, be sure to control your speed and pay attention to safety.
Finally, I wish friends who are destined to read this article: For every mountain high, there is a path; for every river deep, there is a ferry.

A Week of Volunteer Experience at Baipu Temple
🌸Last week, I embarked on a volunteer journey to Baipu Temple, where I spent a fulfilling and memorable week. Baipu Temple, nestled among green mountains and waters, offered me a rare opportunity to experience, to comprehend, and to grow.
🍃The moment I arrived at Baipu Temple, I was captivated by its tranquility and solemnity. In the early morning, sunlight filtered through the treetops and sprinkled on the stone paths, with a faint scent of incense lingering in the air. Along with other volunteers, I began our busy yet orderly work.
🌼During the week, we were responsible for cleaning the courtyard, organizing scriptures, and providing tea for visitors, among other tasks. Although the work was somewhat arduous, the satisfaction and joy that welled up in me whenever I saw the temple become tidier and more dignified due to our efforts were beyond words.
🍂In addition to daily labor, I also participated in some of the temple's religious activities. Under the guidance of the monks, I learned how to chant sutras and how to perform the gesture of Anjali. These activities allowed me to appreciate the profoundness of Buddhist culture and prompted deeper reflections on life and the universe.
🌙At night, I would sit in the temple courtyard with other volunteers, gazing at the starry sky and sharing our thoughts. Here, we set aside worldly distractions and embraced the beauty of life with our hearts. This week seemed like a brief sanctuary, allowing me to meditate, reflect, and adjust my mindset.
🌈Looking back on this week of volunteer experience, I feel immensely enriched. Baipu Temple not only allowed me to experience the charm of traditional culture but also taught me gratitude, the spirit of giving, and the importance of cherishing. Every plant, brick, and tile here is imbued with spirituality and wisdom, revealing the infinite possibilities of life.
💪In the days to come, I will carry this experience and insight back into my life, facing life's challenges and opportunities with a more positive and optimistic attitude. I am grateful for the unforgettable experience Baipu Temple has given me!

Baipu Temple is an ancient Liao Dynasty temple with a history of over 900 years. It is named for its location against two waterfalls, and the temple guardian at the mountain gate is the Mountain God Temple, which served to protect living beings and forests in ancient times. Next to the Mountain God Temple is a reclining Buddha, and passing by the reclining Buddha are the Chariot God Hall and the statue of Horse-Headed Guanyin. Horse-Headed Guanyin, also known as Horse-Headed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, always appears with an angry expression and a fierce face. With three eyes and four arms, holding various weapons, it is believed to subdue demons and ghosts, possessing divine power to ward off evil and avoid disasters, protecting those related to vehicles from misfortune, and is regarded as a guardian deity for warding off evil and ensuring safety.

After the snow, I found beauty and tranquility at the Bai Waterfall Temple
About 2 weeks after a heavy snowfall in Beijing, I visited the Bai Waterfall Temple, where the buildings were still covered with white snow, and the surrounding mountains were also visible in their vast whiteness. Under the blue sky and white clouds, a different kind of beauty was presented!
The Bai Waterfall Temple is located in the Mentougou District of Beijing. It is a temple whose popularity has risen rapidly in recent years. Hidden in the mountains of Yubai Village in Mentougou, the temple houses a Liao Dynasty stupa. The other buildings were built later and their architecture is quite different from that of typical temple structures.
Distinctive Architecture and Sculptures
Yunlei Pavilion, a building before entering the mountain gate, has a very impressive design!
Nianfo Hall, the interior sculptures are very distinctive
Four-Faced Buddha, there are statues of the four-faced Guanyin, Guan Yu, Weituo, etc., on top of the Dharma Hall
The Bai Waterfall Temple is located deep in the mountains, surrounded by mountains, a rare place of tranquility.
Address: Yubai Village, Yanchi Town, Mentougou
Tickets: Free admission
Parking lot: A flat fee of 10 yuan is charged per use, not timed.

Bai Waterfall Temple in Western Beijing
Deep in the mountains, the Bai Waterfall Temple is not particularly accessible by car, but having finally visited it today, it truly lives up to its reputation.
Originally, this was an ancient temple from the Liao Dynasty, with the relics of eminent monks on the mountain. It is said that Bai Waterfall Temple is also known as the 'Evil Temple' because of the unimaginably grand offerings and statues here. For this reason, out of devotion and humility, it is advised not to take photos of the giant deities and Buddhas.
🌟Highlights:
The Giant Buddha in the Car God Hall at the entrance ensures safe travels, with a fierce face that can ward off evil, no picture provided.
The Yunxiao Hall in the first picture has a large bell underneath, which is also used for blessing.
The Guanyin Hall on the right side of the mountain gate shares a courtyard with the monks' residence and is the main hall for blessings, with higher standards.
The highest main hall has two giant mountain deities standing by the door, and after entering, one must climb very high and rather steep steps.
I visited in early March, and the snow on the mountain had not yet melted, making it an absolutely cool retreat in the summer.
📝Note tips:
Those with a fear of large objects, especially children who are scared, should enter with caution.
Those with poor leg strength are advised not to climb the mountain or visit the highest main hall, as the slope is very steep.
📝Note tips:
Do not take photos of the Buddhas and mountain deities just for the sake of checking in.
🚉Transportation Strategy:
Drive to the parking lot, as the mountain roads are difficult to navigate since the ascent and descent share the same path. It is recommended to arrive early to try to descend the mountain around 12 o'clock when there are fewer cars.
Other modes of transportation are currently not feasible, and it is estimated that it would take an hour to walk from the base of the mountain to the entrance, and there is no public transportation to the foot of the mountain.

Report!!! An unforgettable attraction, the White Water Temple
Hi, everyone, I am the fun-loving Huanhuan
The White Water Temple, with its mystical, exaggerated, brightly colored, and boldly shaped Buddha statues, has become famous both domestically and internationally, breaking away from the traditional solemnity of Buddha statues. Its design is unique. Not to mention Beijing, even looking across the vast land of China, it would be hard to find a second one.
🌸 The White Water Temple is located in Mentougou District, Yanchi Town, originally named 'Bai Shoufeng White Water Temple Zen Temple' and was first built during the early years of the Liao Dynasty's Qiantong era. It has been repaired through the Liao, Jin, and Republic of China eras. It was destroyed in the early years of the Republic of China and suffered another devastation in the 1960s. The White Water Temple we see today was rebuilt under the leadership of Master Huineng in 2000, taking seventeen years to complete, and was finished on May 22, 2016.
The temple's architecture is magnificent and awe-inspiring, with a unique style that stands out, earning it the title of the most magical temple in western Beijing. However, once you step inside the temple, it is solemn and dignified, which is completely different from the 'magical' image I had in mind. As the saying goes, 'Buddha comes from the heart, where do demons and monsters come from?'
📍Location: White Water Temple
🎫Ticket: Free (parking 10r, motorcycle 5r)
🚘Transportation: Self-driving
🍔Dining: The temple offers vegetarian meals, about 50 RMB per person, meals start at 11 am.
🕠Opening hours: 8:00-17:00
📷Photography: Best to bring a telephoto lens
🧢Attire: Traditional Chinese or national style clothing is very photogenic
✅Main attractions: Four-faced Bodhisattva, Yunlei Pavilion, Cheshen Hall
✅The parking lot is very small, try to find a spot to park on the way up the mountain
✅Pets and drones are prohibited
📸Photo spots:
✅Cheshen Hall: The deity is the Horse-Headed King, one of the eight great kings of Vajrayana Buddhism, also known as the Cheshen, with a green face and fierce teeth, and a very imposing look, a must-visit for drivers (currently under renovation, with scaffolding and green nets!)
✅Yunlei Pavilion: The theme is inspired by the story of the Buddha's birth with five dragons protecting him. The golden prince on top of the pavilion is said to be the son of the Tathagata, surrounded by five dragons, with two phoenixes on each side. The craftsmanship is exquisite, the shapes are stunning, and the details are vividly portrayed. According to netizens, it represents the Buddha Shakyamuni as a child, the prince Buddha.
✅Four-faced Bodhisattva: Located at the highest point behind the temple, it is a huge statue of the four great Bodhisattvas of the Vajradhatu mandala, facing directly towards the temple gate to the east. Therefore, on the east side is the Guanyin Bodhisattva of Putuo Mountain, on the south side is the Samantabhadra Bodhisattva of Emei Mountain, on the west side is the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva of Jiuhua Mountain, and on the north side is the Manjushri Bodhisattva of Wutai Mountain (corrected by professional netizens), shining brightly with dragons surrounding. Interestingly, Guan Yu, as the Kalan Bodhisattva, stands by with the Green Dragon Crescent Blade, majestic and solemn.
📍Hiking route: Lousi Platform - Pig Farm - White Water Temple - Dongtuo Mountain - Lousi Platform
⚠️The outbound trip is about 4km, on a gentle dirt road plus a firebreak, passing through free-range 🐷 pens (see previous article) which is quite interesting and 'flavorful'; after reaching the White Water Temple, climb over Dongtuo Mountain to return. Although the climb is not high, there are cliffs on both sides of the ridge with no trees to block, and the third peak requires climbing with hands and feet, with a cliff on the left side of the last section, so be very careful (described by hikers as comparable to Dog Teeth Mountain). Make sure to wear anti-slip shoes and walk cautiously❗️❗️❗️The downhill path after crossing the mountain is steep but not too dangerous.
❤️Overall, the trip is relatively easy, combining fun, refinement, and complex terrain. The route is clear and well-established, recommended for those with sports experience and not afraid of heights, not recommended for pure beginners and young children!

The treasure of the Bai Pu Temple
Upon first arriving at the Bai Pu Temple, one seeks out the treasure of the temple - the pagoda of Master Yuan Zheng. This is the pagoda of the founding master of the Bai Pu Temple, Master Yuan Zheng, the only ancient pagoda preserved in the temple.
Established: The sixth year of the Huangtong era (1146)
Structure:
The lower half is a dense eave style, and the upper half is a bowl-covering style.
The pagoda body has three layers of dense eaves, and above the dense eaves are two layers of upward-facing lotus supporting the bowl cover. This pagoda is a transition from the dense eave style to the bowl-covering style.
Each side of the pagoda body has an arched door and a false window; each has two Buddha niches, and the original Buddha statues in the niches have been destroyed.
The pagoda faces south, and on the southeast and southwest sides of the front door of the pagoda, there was originally a stone stele on each side, but now only the southeast stele remains.
Inscription on the Spirit Pagoda of Master Zheng: Master Zheng's Dharma name is Yuan Zheng, his secular surname is Cao, he was born in Qianzhou, Zhongjing, in the third year of Xianyong of the Liao Dynasty (1067). He took the precepts at the age of five and began to study the Vinaya, and later listened to the Avatamsaka Sutra. He passed away in the twelfth year of Tianhui (1134).
From 'Record of the Spirit Pagoda of Master Zheng in the Bai Pu Temple on Jin Cheng Mountain in Wanping County, Yanjing, Da Jin'
Location of the pagoda: To the left of the main hall.

Suburban Bai Pu Temple!!
Many people say that Bai Pu Temple is a "heretical temple", it is indeed very different from other Buddhist buildings, but its "heresy" may come more from everyone's fear of giants, anyway I think Bai Pu Temple is a highly ornamental group of buildings, my suggestion is not to ask for anything, just enjoy taking pictures and checking in.

Beijing Suburbs Bai Pu Temple Guide
attractions I saw photos of this place online and thought it was cool, but I've always been curious why people rarely post frontal photos, basically all are back or side shots. After coming here, I realized that it's really hard to take photos... First of all, there are many people, everyone is taking photos here, if you want to take good photos, you have to be prepared to be watched, and if the weather is good, the light will directly hit your face, it's very harsh, and the whole scene is large, if you take a full shot, people will be very small, if you stand forward, your face will be very large... So if you just want to take some portrait photos, forget it, it's a long way off, if you have nothing to do and come for a stroll, it's okay, but you can't make a special trip, because the whole attraction can be finished in about an hour, which is not as long as the time on the road... In addition, I have summarized the following experiences: 🚗Drive directly to Bai Pu Temple, it takes about an hour and a half from the city, there are some mountain roads but not as difficult to drive as imagined, remember to drive slowly when the road is narrow 🅿️There are many parking lots, small cars are 10 yuan and large cars are 20 yuan, not timed, this is great👍 🍔Bai Pu Temple has a vegetarian restaurant, pure vegetarian, about 50 yuan per person, lunch starts at 11 o'clock every day, only lunch ⛩Car God Temple: Currently under renovation, unable to take photos ⛩Yunlei Pavilion: Internet celebrity photo spot, must check in, there is a pond below where you can feed fish, and the cultural and creative ice cream is also here (28 yuan), you can buy it and take photos here, Guanyin Cave: Go down from behind the vegetarian restaurant, need to climb the mountain for 20 minutes, we directly gave up ⛩Four-faced Bodhisattva: At the high place of the temple, there are two generals, Hum and Ha, guarding, there is a circulation place next to it where you can ask for a bracelet ⛩Ancient Buddha Cave: There are many Buddha lamps inside, you can light a lamp and make a wish Because I don't know much about the history here, I won't go into detail about the background, but I personally feel that the incense is slightly more expensive than other places, after all, there is no admission fee😂
There are still quite a few people on weekends, it is recommended to come on weekdays I saw online that you can come here to volunteer on weekends, gather at Apple Garden Station on Friday night and return on Sunday, but you have to get up early so I gave up, interested friends can search online

One of the mysterious temples in the capital, Mentougou Baipu Temple travel guide
Speaking of Beijing people visiting temples, there is a bit of 'targeting', such as Tanzhe Temple, Hongluo Temple, Yonghe Palace... Whether it's for worship or porridge, these ancient temples have retained the attributes of traditional temples, but Baipu Temple is an exception, Beijing people visit Baipu Temple mainly for curiosity
💁🏻About Baipu Temple
It is said to be an ancient temple of the Liao Dynasty, but I didn't feel that it is over 900 years old. The Buddha statues are huge and almost all are outdoors, with exaggerated expressions and oppressive... It may not be very friendly for Buddhists, but it is refreshing for tourists
📸Highlights
✅ Car God Temple: The fierce Maitreya Buddha statue
✅ Yunlei Pavilion: Five Dragons and Two Phoenixes + Buddha pointing to the sky and the earth with both hands
✅ Humha Two Generals: 10 meters high, higher than the mountain gate...
✅ Four-faced Guanyin statue: There are also Nezha, Guan Gong, Weituo... I don't understand what this group is... Maybe it's a Tan city?
It is said that the person who rebuilt Baipu Temple designed and planned according to the scenes in the dream, which is a bit magical and subverts your understanding of traditional temples‼️There are probably three types of people who come to Baipu Temple: 1️⃣Curiosity, a family of three come here to play as an amusement park; 2️⃣Taking pictures, a good place for posing; 3️⃣Worship, the spiritual home of the car circle boss
