Amazing rock formation
Our short escapade to Kuching brought us to Bako National Park, which is a real gem. It is a tranquil and serene area, accessible by boat that runs hourly from Bako Pier.
The place is filled with wildlife and multiple types of amazing natural vegetation.
We also went for trekking at a few trails which have been clearly marked for visitors to follow. Luckily the weather was accommodating despite monsoon season.
Such a refreshing holiday. Highly recommended.

Bako National Park is a national park in Kuching Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. Established in 1957, it is the oldest national park in Sarawak. It covers an area of 27.27 square kilometres (10.53 sq mi) at the tip of the Muara Tebas peninsula at the mouth of the Bako and Kuching Rivers. It is approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) by road from Kuching. Millions of years of erosion of the sandstone have created a coastline of steep cliffs, rocky headlands and stretches of white, sandy bays. Wave erosion at the base of the cliffs has carved many of the rocky headlands into fantastically shaped sea arches and seastacks with colored patterns formed by iron deposition.

Bako National Park
Bako contains a rich variety of wildlife - including the endangered Proboscis Monkey - and a coastline covered with small bays, coves and beaches. While it’s relatively small (only 27 sq km) it is reputed to have almost every type of vegetation in Borneo within its boundaries. It’s criss-crossed with a number of hiking trails ranging in difficulty from moderate to challenging. Be aware that hiking here requires a reasonable level of fitness, and lots of water, in order to manage the heat and humidity.

Day trip to Bako
A wonderful way to see nature and wildlife close up at Bako National Park. Only a short drive from Kuching then an exhilarating boat ride to the park jetty. It’s an opportunity to see rare Probiscus Monkeys, Silver Leaf Monkeys, Bearded Pigs, snakes, lizards and much more. Hire a guide or enjoy the marked trails by yourself. You can also choose to stay overnight in basic rooms and there is a simple cafe for meals and drinks.
