Castle of Dracula 🇷🇴
#100WaysOfTravel
Visiting Bran Castle was a highlight of my summer trip to Romania! Nestled in the Carpathian Mountains, about 30 km from Brasov, the entrance fee is 40 RON. Known as "Dracula's Castle," it offers a fascinating dive into both history and legend.
The castle itself is stunning, with its medieval towers and scenic views of the surrounding forest. Inside, you’ll find intriguing exhibits on medieval life and the castle’s history. The walk through the narrow stairways and rooms makes for a memorable experience.
After exploring the castle, I wandered around the charming town of Bran, where I enjoyed local delicacies and found some lovely souvenirs. Bran Castle is a must-see for anyone interested in Romanian history and Dracula lore. 🏰🌲

The Legend of Dracula and the Bran Castle
Bran Castle is a must-visit tourist destination in Romania due to its mysterious connection with the legendary Dracula.
Located in Transylvania, the castle was initially built to protect the surrounding region against invaders.
However, its association with the fictional character Dracula has made it a popular tourist spot. Although Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Dracula, never lived in the castle, it still has an eerie vibe with its Gothic architecture, dark hallways, and medieval atmosphere.
The castle now houses a museum showcasing the history of the region, including the life of Vlad the Impaler.
A visit to Bran Castle is a fascinating experience for anyone interested in Gothic architecture, medieval history, and vampire lore.

Visit Dracula’s castle in Romania
What better place to be at in the spirit of Halloween than to visit Bran’s Castle, also known as Dracula’s castle in Transylvania, Romania?
The name came about as the author of the horror novel Dracula, Bram Stoker, set this castle as Count Dracula’s residence in the story. The interesting thing is that he never actually visited this castle but the castle came from his own imagination based on the picture of Bran Castle that he had seen.
While the name itself may sound intimidating, it is actually not that scary in real life. In fact, the castle itself was occupied by a royal family, before being acquired as a private museum for both locals and tourists alike.
This castle is actually very popular, and it was crowded when I was there. The souvenir shops outside the castle are selling Halloween themed souvenirs that look more intimidating such as shirts with black cat motifs.

Castle Bran in Romania is outside of Bucharest and has a very interesting history. You can hire a guide, but it is small enough that most people tour on their own. It has amazing carved furniture a spectacular views. The cost is reasonable for a ticket to enter. #merrychristmas

Not too far from Bucharest is Castle Bran, a real castle! The furnishings and setting take you back in time. The carved wood furnishings and handpainted ceilings are breathtaking, the scenery even more so. Worth the trip. #givethanks #realcastle #familytravel #romania #castlebran

[Travel around Eastern Europe] Vampire Castle
train into the layers of the mountains of Transylvania, the weather becomes gloomy. When it arrived at Bran Castles, it was overcast and it seemed to be a good day for vampires to go out. This is the castle inhabited by the Count of Dracula in the novel, and in fact the archetype of Vampire's archetype, Vlad, is associated with the castle for a few months when he was imprisoned as a combat prisoner.
The original owner of the castle was the Romanian royal family. After the death of Queen Mary, she was passed to Princess Ileana. Socialist Romania overthrew the royal family to confiscate the castle, and the princess family went into exile in the United States. In 1989, the new government came to power. Ten years later, the castle was finally returned to the descendants of Princess Ileana.
The legend of the vampire made Bran Castle the most popular castle in Romania, but it is hard to feel the atmosphere of Count Dracula here. It is a sigh of excitement in the historical torrent of the castle owner's royal family.

Dracula’s castle
A visit to Transylvania would not be complete without a visit to the iconic Castle Bran just outside Brasov. The medieval fortress set on a hilltop surrounded by beautiful countryside was made famous by Bram Stoker’s horror novel based on the actual and infamous leader of the region Vlad the impaler.
However despite the myth the castle itself is never mentioned in the story and the castle was not even set foot in by the tyrannical leader.
The unexpected part of this is the fact that once you enter the castle you are entering what seems like a family home which has been perfect preserved form its days as a royal residence. #voyagevibes #romania #castle #dracula

Romania-Bran Castle and Black Church
Day 8 of road trip. The Bran Castle should be a must go for everyone coming to Romania since everyone would have seen Dracula in the movies since young. It’s not bad but it’s not huge nor grand inside given it was a fortress. For an Entrance fee of 180 Lei for a family of two adults n two kids i find it a bit pricey. The Black Church is in the Council Square area itself there is also an entrance fee of 25 Lei per adult. Good thing in Romania is that everywhere accepts card payment as I did not have any local currency 💴 at all.

Dracula's Castle: The Legendary Abode of the Mysterious Vampire, Echoes of History Whispering in Your Ears
Stepping into the legendary Dracula's Castle, the sky is overcast, adding a touch of mystery to this ancient fortress. This castle was once the residence of the legendary vampire Dracula, thus it is filled with an aura of mystery and terror. The castle is perched on a small hill, surrounded by dense forests. As I climb the slippery stone steps, each step seems to resonate with the weight of history. The exterior is rustic and solemn, with intricate carvings on the stone walls, as if narrating stories of the past. Inside the castle, there are displays of ancient furniture and decorations, each piece revealing the traces of time, as if you can hear the echoes of history whispering in your ears.

Bran Castle of Dracula the Vampire
Bran Castle, also known as Dracula's Castle, is more commonly known as Dracula Castle because in the late 19th century, Irish writer Bram Stoker wrote a very famous novel 'Dracula', which set its story against this castle, with the protagonist being Count Dracula the Vampire. This novel has been adapted into films multiple times, and because the story is deeply ingrained in people's hearts, the castle has been defined as the Vampire Castle.
📍Location: Bran Castle
🚗Transportation: We stayed in Sibiu the night before and drove 140 kilometers to reach the Vampire Castle.
🌟Highlights: The castle was originally built in 1377 as a fortification to resist the Turks. After its completion in 1382, it gradually became a political center integrating military, customs, local administration, and judiciary.
The terrain where the castle is located is extremely perilous. It is built on a small hill, backed by impassable mountains, overlooking the road passing through the valley, making it difficult for anyone passing by to escape the eyes of the castle's owner.
The most distinctive feature of Bran Castle is its four corner towers. These towers either store gunpowder or have movable floors designed specifically for pouring hot water on enemies besieging the castle, each with its own function. The four corner towers are connected by corridors, with shooting holes on the outer walls of the corridors, eliminating shooting blind spots. This makes the entire castle a very tight combat fortress.
💗Other tips: From the foot of the mountain, climb the steps along the slope for about 100 meters to reach the castle gate.

Whether or not you believe in ghosts is up to you, but the people involved in these anecdotes certainly won't be taking ghost stories lightly any time soon. 6

Bran Castle
#fallingseason
Bran Castle is a landmark and National Monument in Transylvania and is known as Dracula’s Castle.
The castle is often linked with Bram Stokers ‘Count Dracula’ although the author never actually visited Transylvania. However, he depicts the scenes in his book so well, that you would never realise.
The surrounding villages believe in the existence of evil spirits, ghosts or ‘strigoi’, and until half a century ago thought these individuals were living among them.
A strigoi is someone that leads a normal life in the day, until their souls leave their bodies at night and they come out to hunt their prey.
Today, the castle is a museum that has been dedicated to displaying furniture and art pieces collected by Queen Maria, who was the castle's previous royal resident.
Along with her exhibitions, and her husband King Ferdinand's room, the castle also has exhibits about Romanian vampire lore, Vlad the Impaler and Bram Stoker.
Bran Castle is one of the most popular Romanian tourist attractions and is a must-visit.

First time travelling to Romania has gotten me fall heads over heels for a country full of beauty.
The people are nice, friendly and helpful. The land itself it filled with beautiful architectures and landscapes that just awes your mind.
For a place that's not frequent by visitors much and the lack of publicity for the country's tourism, I gotta vouch for them that Romania is definitely a place worth visiting.
You need not worry about language barriers as most of them can speak English and transport is never an issue because I find the means of travelling via public transport in Romania rather efficient and reliable. And fret not about safety, no place is ever truly save, but in my experience, Romania is relatively safe for tourist and I am glad to have a smooth trip exploring the places by myself with no hiccups.
Not to mention it is cheap too. Definitely a place to visit for young travellers with a tight budget.
So much to explore yet so little time. I will definitely visit Romania again, that's for sure.
PS; I am surprised to see Indomie all the way here in Romania.
