Hong Kong's Southern Hiking Paradise - Cape D'Aguilar
If you're looking for an ideal hiking destination, Cape D'Aguilar is a must-visit! With its stunning natural scenery and fresh air, it's the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
🌟Cape D'Aguilar Hiking Trail
The trails at Cape D'Aguilar are suitable for beginner hikers as they are mostly flat. The picturesque scenery along the way allows you to enjoy the beautiful nature and feel the charm of the great outdoors.
Located at the southern tip of Hong Kong, adjacent to Shek O, Cape D'Aguilar was once considered a hidden gem due to its less convenient transportation compared to Shek O. However, as more people have come to explore this beautiful place, it is no longer a hidden spot. But I believe such beauty should be appreciated and experienced by everyone.
🚌Transportation
Getting to Cape D'Aguilar is very convenient. You can first go to the Shau Kei Wan Bus Terminus and then take bus number 9 to Cape D'Aguilar Road. (❕On the return trip, there may be many people waiting for the bus, so it is recommended to arrive at the bus stop early.)
🌟Hiking Duration
This hiking route is about 9 kilometers long and usually takes about 3 hours to complete. During this journey, you will experience various natural beauties, allowing you to fully appreciate the charm of nature.
📸🔥Thunder Cave — A Natural Wonder (Photos 3 & 4)
Near Cape D'Aguilar, you can also visit Thunder Cave, a famous sea cave. Every time the waves rush through the narrow entrance into the cave, the deafening sound is like thunder, leaving a deep impression, hence the name "Thunder Cave".
📸🔥Viewing Tips❕❕
When visiting Thunder Cave, please pay special attention to the surroundings. Due to the long-term erosion by waves, the surface of the rocks has become very smooth. Be sure to walk carefully to avoid slipping or getting injured. The natural beauty here is worth savoring, but safety always comes first.

Hong Kong Ho Chung 🏃🏻 | Climbing mountains and crossing waters just to meet you.
Long time no see 🇭🇰, not going to 👀ArtBasel (which is my regret in my heart)
But going on a rampage in Hejui is a new challenge for myself.
4pm departure from Tsim Sha Tsui, 5pm from Shau Kei Wan, take the van around 5:12pm to Ho Chung Road.
Spent 45 minutes and finally arrived at the Crab 🦀 Cave (can also visit Shek O if you go early).
Return to Hezui Road and take a bus back to Shau Kei Wan, which takes about one hour.
Heaven gave me 😂 walking on a dark road is really scary, and there are 🐶 barking.
All the way in darkness, without even streetlights, new experience 😂🤣😂

Cape D'Aguilar Day Trip
When the weather is cooler, it's a good season for outings with children, and Tsuru Tsui, which is convenient to go and see multiple seaside attractions at once, is the first choice for many families! Cape D'Aguilar is a marine reserve located at the southern tip of the Stanley and Shek O Peninsula in the southern district of Hong Kong Island, which is rich in biodiversity, but it is important not to touch or touch marine life, and most importantly, not to pollute the ocean. There are many attractions in Hezui, including Lei Yin Cave, Waste Castle, Lighthouse, Whale Bone Specimen, Crab Cave, etc. Most of the distance is on flat roads, so you can push a BB car. If you want to shorten the walking time, you can take a taxi to the radio location and walk another 15 minutes to the Crane Tsui Marine Reserve.
Route: Hezui Village Radio Station Lighthouse Lei Yin Cave Marine Research Institute Crab Cave
Length: about 7 km
Time: about 3 hours
Infant difficulty: ☆☆☆☆
Transportation: Take bus No. 9 from Shau Kei Wan Bus Terminal and get off at Hok Tsui Road Take a taxi to the radio station and walk another 15 minutes to Crane Tsui Marine Reserve
Remarks: ★
Some sections of the road are within the scope of the Swire Institute of Oceanography and the Radio Station of the University of Hong Kong, so be careful not to trespass into private areas

Lost in CAPE D' AGUILAR ❤️
I reached this place by accident when I decided to join a group of friendly Indonesian ladies because I did not know where to go when I got off the bus. It was a hazy and foggy day but it was still a great experience for me. I love the view on top of the stone cliffs. Sometimes, getting lost or not knowing where to go is not the worst thing as it leads you to beautiful destinations

Cape D’Aguilar, a Marina Conservation Park
Last year, we went to the South east side of Hong Kong Island and spent hours hiking the Cape D’Aguilar or Hok Tsui route.
The trail is easy and smooth, it’s paved all the way with moderate inclines. From bus stop, it’s walk straight down the cape d’Aguilar road. It’s between the hill on one side and sea view on the other which is the coastal view of Stanley. After about an hour walk, you should arrive at the Radio Transmitting Station with speed breaker or warning signs about trespassing. Well, just go off road. There’s a path that runs along the main road and goes around the station, then you’ll be back on the paved road on the other side.
Not long after you passed the station, you’ll see the sign board with fork in the road, where the left path takes you to the lighthouse and right is to the marine reserve, which is where we are heading towards! It’s pretty straightforward from here. You’ll know when you arrive , the view is really quite breathtaking. Find your way down to the rocky shores, walk along the shores and you’ll see the whale bones. Keep going, behind the bones, make way to crab cave where beautiful shots are taken, admire the geological formations and witness the tumultuous waves.
Average time: 5 hours round trip (including photos and toilet stops)
Distance: approximately 8km
Toilet: There are cubicles and public toilets at the village.
Replenish stations: There’s local cafe at the village near public toilets (you won’t miss it, there’s a signboard for it and apparently their instant noodles with luncheon are hot item) and there’s another local stores near the destination.
Difficulties: ⭐️
Scenic: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
How to get there:
- Shau Kei Wan MTR station A3 exit and look for bus no. 9 to Shek O and get off at Cape D’Aguilar (鶴咀) which is approximately 20-25 mins
Note: Due to the popularity of Cape D’Aguilar, there are some bus no. 9 that skipped the stop. So make sure you ask of it stops.

Ocean hiking
Cape D’aguilar is a cape near Shek O named after a former General and Governor of Hong Kong. It’s an easy trail that hugs the coast line and allows you to get close to the sea and breath in the fresh air, and provides many fantastic photo opportunities along the way.
After a short bus journey, we arrived fresh and raring to go. Within a few minutes of walking we are greeted by sensational views of the ocean below us, we were stunned! And of course, this meant pictures and more pictures! Soon we were greeted by a vast open space with nothing but nature surrounding us. Huge swathes of greenery and the clear blue ocean. It was bliss.
Turning right towards the ocean, we detoured to a cave. Possibly used by pirates or smugglers in bygone eras it was a breath-taking display of nature’s power. The waves crashing through the crevasse both deafening and awe inspiring. Was pretty magnificent.
Next it was onto the ocean and a spot of rock climbing. Just listening to the waves and watching the sea, I was entranced and taken far away. If I closed my eyes I could have been anywhere. It was awesome to get so close to the ocean, exactly what was needed to clear our minds and lift our spirits. We spent some time just sitting and relaxing, some even sketching the picturesque surroundings.
After many many photos on the rocks and next to the sea we spotted another cave. Crab cave because it kind of looks like a crab…. a bit… you can check it out for yourselves to see if you agree or not.
Lighthouse was next on the agenda. The oldest in HK it dates back to 1870. Small and quaint, it would never be used in today’s time but was quite an achievement back in the day.
Just over the horizon is a disused military bunker, no doubt used to keep a close watch on the sea. Long since destroyed either by nature or by war, the foundations stand proud as a reminder of what was. It was here we got the best view of the day, the expansive clifs, the thundering ocean, the lighthouse looking over, and the beautiful sky ahead.
