How can you say you've been to Hong Kong if you haven't done these 6 things?
🎊To experience the authentic Hong Kong and its local flavor, these activities are a must‼️❗️
.
🌀①Go to the Peak to overlook Hong Kong and take pictures of the Victoria Harbour night view
If you want to take photos of Hong Kong, more than half of the people would choose to go to the Peak, which is the best spot to capture Victoria Harbour
There are various ways to get to the Peak, and for a more unique experience, you can take the century-old tram to the top. As the red vintage tram car slowly climbs up, the view becomes increasingly expansive, and the panoramic view of Victoria Harbour unfolds before you, which is truly breathtaking
.
🌀②Ride the century-old Star Ferry⛴ across Victoria Harbour
The old cross-harbour transport that has been serving Hong Kong for over a hundred years is also the cheapest mode of transportation in Hong Kong. There are two routes: Tsim Sha Tsui-Central and Tsim Sha Tsui-Wan Chai, with the Tsim Sha Tsui-Central route being more suitable for sightseeing. You can choose to sit on the second floor or by the window for a better view
.
🌀③Take the tram🚎 and roam around Hong Kong
The double-decker tram that circles the city area of Hong Kong is one of the oldest modes of transportation in Hong Kong, with a history of over a hundred years. Riding the tram, accompanied by the 'ding ding... ding ding...' of the tram bell, weaving through the streets of Hong Kong, you can savor the street scenes and experience the most distinctive local culture
.
🌀④Stroll through the Central Market and taste the local Hong Kong flavor
Central is like a miniature version of Hong Kong, with both urban prosperity and traditional markets. It's fashionable, exquisite, and full of life. Whether you're eating, taking photos, or enjoying the Hong Kong-style blockbuster scenes and movie locations, a City walk is not to be missed
.
🌀⑤Find an authentic cha chaan teng🍮 and taste the Hong Kong food culture
Hong Kong's cha chaan tengs, akin to a civilian, homestyle Western restaurant, have been washed and settled by Chinese and Western cultures over the years. Whether it's Hong Kong-style milk tea, lemon tea, French toast, or pineapple bun, it's not just about the food itself; it's about experiencing the local culture of Hong Kong
.
🌀⑥Visit Temple Street to find movie locations and experience life in Hong Kong dramas
For those who love Hong Kong dramas, Temple Street holds many memories. With the flickering neon lights, street vendors, and the many affordable items sold at the night market... Through the screen, you can immerse yourself and become the protagonist of your own movie
.
🍄🍄With so many places to visit, don't worry about how to enjoy them, the itinerary is also arranged for you

The Revitalised Central Market
Central Market was the first wet market with a Bauhaus structure in the city in 1938. After years of disuse, the market was after a major renovation led by Urban Renewal Authority, which retained some original architectural structures in 2017.
After four long years, Hong Kong's Grade 3 historically listed building Central Market has finally opened the doors to the public with a new look, featuring an eclectic mix of shops, food stalls, specialty restaurants, event spaces and more.
It is located at 93 Queen's Road Central and 80 Des Voeux Road, interconnected between Queen Victoria Street and Jubilee Street. It is around 4 minutes 350 meters walk from Central station and is open daily from 1000-2200.

Central Market - lots to see and eat
After a total face-lift, Central Market is the place to be in the heart of Central.
On the second floor which was conveniently connected with footbridges to the mid-level escalator and IFC, there were lots of retail spaces, a big sustainable shop Slowood, florists, accessories etc alongside with food stalls perfect for grabbing something to go.
On the first floor there are even more retail to check out, art exhibitions to see and some dine-in options and cafes.
The ground floor is bustling with hot food options where you can order food court style, as well as a market style restaurant with lots of meat options - or you can also buy to cook at home as there is a large range of deli, cheese, salad or veggies etc. You can also try artisan local beers here!

Revitalized Central Market Targeted Young Consumers
Central Market has a long history in Hong Kong since it’s first version opened for business in 1842. It used to be a wet market where locals buy fresh ingredients for their own meals or businesses. Now, however, after the revitalization project in 2021, there seems to be no trace of raw vegetables or meats had ever been put at any corner of the building.
Once you enter Central Market, it felt more like a shopping mall with lots of local young entrepreneurs set up booths to promote their products, and with more unique brands of food and drinks that I don’t see in any other places. The price is a bit on the higher side which I believe because they target young people who prefer quality and good vibes.
The old structure is still being kept at the market, with the grand stair cases and old Chinese signs on the wall. The market is clean, fully air conditioned, neat and modern. It is definitely a pleasant experience to go to this market.

Central Market | The Ideal Corner for a Slow Living Hong Kong.
Located in the bustling area of Hong Kong, Central Market seems to be the perfect balance of hustle and leisure. As soon as you step into this beautifully restored historic building, time seems to slow down. The renovated space retains its old-time charm while adding a modern cultural atmosphere.
Wandering through the market, you are greeted by a variety of small shops and artistic installations. A cup of aromatic coffee, a good book, a delicate light meal, along with the warm sunshine streaming through the windows, creates a long-missed sense of comfort. The walls beside the stairs are adorned with vintage tiles and traces carved by time, and every step feels like flipping through the pages of Hong Kong's history.
At noon, choose a seat surrounded by greenery and taste the local snacks, and you can't help but marvel at this pure land amidst the fast-paced life. Every stall, every corner, is filled with Hong Kong people's meticulousness towards life's rhythm.
When the night lights are lit, the city lights melt into this tranquil neighborhood, making everything seem so gentle and enchanting. Central Market is not just a shopping venue, but more like a spiritual haven for city dwellers, allowing every turn of the day to enjoy a rare moment of slow living.
Take a trip to Central Market to experience a different kind of leisure and tranquility in Hong Kong, and let your soul pause here for a while.

Looking for incense only at SLOWOOD? A comprehensive guide to incense spots in Hong Kong
Many tourists who visit Hong Kong head to SLOWOOD in Central Market to buy incense, but there are also several lesser-known local spots that I, a Hong Kong expat of 6 years, would recommend. These are imprinted in my mind as a map!
1⃣️ Causeway Bay Matsumoto Kiyoshi
A famous Japanese drugstore with many branches in Hong Kong, but the Causeway Bay store is special because right at the entrance, there is a space dedicated to Kyoto's Kungyokudo incense sticks, which are shipped directly from Japan. They have a wide variety, including the famous Happy Fragrance, which contains scents like perfume lemon, lavender, jasmine, nanmu, lotus, bamboo, and more. They also have the small Hanga incense sticks, with designs like goldfish, pine, and cherry blossoms. Plus, there are aromatic mint lip balms with flavors like yuzu, rose, and honey.
📍 Address: Shop G-3, Hang Lung Centre, 2-20 Paterson Street, Causeway Bay, right next to H&M
2⃣️ SL...OWOOD
The well-known SL...OWOOD has one store each in Central and Sai Ying Pun on Hong Kong Island. Although Sai Ying Pun is the original store, the Central shop is closer to attractions like Tai Kwun and offers a wider selection of incense. You can also buy individual sticks and choose from various incense holders, which is great for those who have trouble making decisions.
📍 Address: Shops 231-233, Central Market, 80 Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong
3⃣️ Central DONKI
Located just across the street from SLOWOOD in Central Market, at the starting point of the Central-Mid-Levels Escalator. The fragrance area on the ground floor sells basic Japanese incense sticks, which are usually only noticed by residents who frequent DONKI in Mid-Levels Central! Even if it's just 'supermarket goods,' there are different scents like plum, green tea, pomegranate, and rose, surely one will resonate with your daily home life. In fact, DONKI is a great place to shop, not just for incense but also for various Japanese snacks.
📍 Address: 100 Queen's Road Central
4⃣️ Kapok
Kapok is a well-known select shop from France, gathering many European fragrance brands and niche independent scents, as well as trendy clothing. Their most famous location is the Green Room in K11 Musea, Tsim Sha Tsui, where the unforgettable French handmade home decor brand Astier de Villatte stands out. Each unique white porcelain ceramic piece combined with different scented incense sticks offers a sensory experience that is a unique choice for those with distinctive taste.
📍 Address: Shop 102, K11 Musea, Tsim Sha Tsui
5⃣️ dESK stationery and more
Last but not least, the heavy-hitter recommendation is dESK! Those in the know are definitely local citywalk experts! This Japanese stationery and miscellaneous goods store is located in the same building as the Hong Kong Italian Hotel residential complex in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui. dESK offers a variety of Japanese stationery brands, and incense is one of them. In addition to Kungyokudo, you can also find the popular Hibi portable incense, Incense Kitchen's Uji matcha incense, and Yamadamatsu's incense series, among other unique brands.
📍 Address: 2nd Floor, 10-12 Chatham Court, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong
🕙 Business Hours: Monday to Friday 12-16, Saturdays irregular special opening hours: 13:00-18:30

【Central Market Lunch】Surprise Theme Exhibition.
I went to Central Market for lunch this time and was greeted with a surprise, as the exhibition area had switched to a new theme. There were stalls featuring iconic Hong Kong fish stalls, with such high realism that I couldn't help but take a closer look to confirm that the fish weren't actually fresh. There were also art pieces themed around bamboo scaffolding constructions!
There was even a space for children to draw and release their energy! Truly a great spot for family activities.

Revitalization of the Central Market architecture in Hong Kong
Revitalization of the Central Market architecture in Hong Kong
The Central Market is an ancient building located on Des Voeux Road Central
It is listed as a Grade III historic building and is one of the oldest vegetable markets in Hong Kong. As early as 1842, the first generation Central Market was established and has a history of nearly 180 years. As the largest meat market in Southeast Asia at that time, the Central Market attracted residents from all walks of society to purchase daily necessities. The revitalized Central Market reopened in August 2021 with the theme 'Playground for All', and the three-story building is divided into three main elements: a boundary-less space, an urban oasis, and a carefully curated conservation experience.
The market houses over 100 shops, retaining 13 unique traditional market stalls, inviting time-honored brands to join, and also introducing many cultural and creative boutiques, Hong Kong-style gourmet snacks, and art market exhibitions.

In the heart of Hong Kong's bustling urban landscape lies a hidden gem that pulsates with the vibrant rhythm of the city – Central Market. Tucked away amidst towering skyscrapers and labyrinthine streets, this historic market is a treasure trove of sights, sounds, and sensations waiting to be discovered.
As the sun rises over the city skyline, the market springs to life with the hustle and bustle of vendors setting up their stalls and eager shoppers weaving through the narrow alleys. The air is alive with the aroma of freshly brewed tea, exotic spices, and sizzling street food, enticing visitors to embark on a culinary adventure like no other.
From the moment you step foot into Central Market, you're greeted by a kaleidoscope of colors and textures that captivate the senses. Stalls brim with vibrant fruits and vegetables, their hues reminiscent of a painter's palette 🎨, while fishmongers proudly display the day's catch, glistening in the morning sunlight.
But Central Market is more than just a place to shop – it's a window into Hong Kong's rich cultural tapestry. Wander through the maze of stalls and you'll encounter artisans crafting traditional handicrafts, from intricately woven textiles to delicate porcelain ceramics. Everywhere you turn, the spirit of Hong Kong's heritage is alive and thriving.
Yet, amidst the chaos of the market, there is a sense of harmony to be found. Locals and tourists alike come together, united by a shared love for good food and great company. Strike up a conversation with a vendor and you'll discover a wealth of stories and traditions passed down through generations.
And as the day turns to dusk, Central Market transforms into a spectacle of light and sound. Neon signs flicker to life, casting an otherworldly glow upon the bustling streets, while the aroma of street food fills the air. Follow the tantalizing scent to makeshift stalls offering everything from steaming bowls of noodles to mouthwatering dumplings, each dish a testament to the city's rich culinary heritage.
But perhaps the true magic of Central Market lies in its ability to transport visitors to another time and place – a world where tradition meets modernity, and every corner holds a new adventure waiting to be had. So, whether you're a seasoned traveler or a curious explorer, make sure to add Central Market to your itinerary and experience the beating heart of Hong Kong in all its vibrant glory. 🇭🇰✨

Central, Hong Kong | A classic route that never gets boring even after 100 visits
It's been a long time since I last visited Hong Kong. This time, revisiting the old place, I found that it has undergone many revitalizations, adding a fresh feeling +1.
For example, the Central Market I walked through today is considered one of the oldest markets in Hong Kong. A long, long time ago, it was indeed a market, but not long ago it was a shopping corridor (?), now after revitalization, it seems like a mall with a bit of a cultural and creative park flavor (?), anyway, it's more petty bourgeoisie and also very good to stroll around.
On this classic route that I would never get bored with even after 100 visits, I would definitely not miss the Mid-Levels Escalator, but because of the New Year, there were really a lot of people today. I had to finish hastily and happily went to Lan Fong Yuen for afternoon tea~ The silk stocking milk tea is still so delicious.

While some people chose to go to elsewhere for Christmas, Hong Kong is actually one of the best place in Asia to enjoy Christmas.
For example, just in Central Market, you can see a lot of christmas trees / decorations in different parts of the building.
It also features lanterns and neon lights of ducklings - not very Christmas style but quite igable.

#wheretogo The Central Market in Hong Kong was a pleasant surprise, as I didn't expect it to be so modern. This site, with a history as an old wet market, has undergone a remarkable transformation into a modernized hub featuring a diverse array of food options, shops, and a vibrant hangout spot.
The fusion of historical buildings with contemporary functionality is a testament to how Hong Kong preserves its heritage while adapting to the changing times. The Central Market is a bustling and well-executed project that beautifully showcases this balance.
Visiting this place is highly recommended. It offers a unique experience, with its three levels housing numerous small shops where you can find distinctive items that make for great souvenirs. The variety of offerings caters to a range of tastes and preferences.
The Central Market is more than just a shopping destination; it's also a culinary delight. Whether you're in the mood for a quick snack like egg waffles on the 2nd floor or a proper meal at one of the restaurants or the food court on the ground floor, there's something to satisfy every craving.
Additionally, the Central Market's strategic location is a highlight. It is seamlessly connected with a sheltered linkway from HK station/IFC, further extending to the Central Mid-Levels Escalators. This accessibility ensures that you can explore this fascinating place conveniently and make the most of your visit.
In summary, the Central Market in Hong Kong is a well-rounded destination that seamlessly blends history with modernity. It's a vibrant, multifaceted place that's perfect for shopping, dining, and simply soaking in the unique atmosphere. A visit to this location is a fantastic way to experience the evolving essence of Hong Kong.

Built in 1939 and had went through many renovations to keep the building up to date with the latest trend yet, keeping its original architecture.
It was a fresh food market in Central, Hong Kong and the first wet market in the city. It is one of only two existing Bauhaus architectural market buildings in Hong Kong.
It has been recently renovated and the the shops and restaurants are well renovated and makes shopping a pleasant experience.
This historical building is worth a visit.#familytravel #本地遊 #givethanks
