Beijing | Experience the Legendary Life of Empress Sisi
China Millennium Monument is hosting a new exhibition, "Sisi and Her Era: The Art of the Austro-Hungarian Empire."
Exhibition location: Century Hall, 2F, China Millennium Monument. Visitors can make a reservation in advance or scan a QR code on-site to make a reservation. Tickets can be purchased on-site or online in advance. Early bird tickets are currently available for CNY 77 each, including a limited edition 1:1 replica of the "Sisi Star" brooch. Don't miss out!
Exhibition highlights:
Empress Sisi was a beloved queen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 19th century. This exhibition showcases her life, including Austrian and Hungarian royal architecture, her daily life, her hobbies, and works by several artists who were influenced by her. Nearly 300 precious exhibits, with pictures and texts, vividly display the legendary life of Empress Sisi.
Empress Sisi's life was full of legends. She had a fairy-tale love story with a prince that all girls envy. She longed for romance and freedom, was an outdoor survival expert, and was skilled in horseback riding and archery. Empress Sisi is known as the most beautiful queen in history. She lived a highly disciplined life, with a waist measuring only 53 cm at its slimmest. She loved fitness and outdoor sports and was obsessed with skincare and makeup. Due to her interests, she learned multiple languages and read books and watched plays in their original versions. Even if Empress Sisi lived in modern times, she would still be an independent, knowledgeable, and versatile influencer who constantly strives for beauty.
Check-in suggestion: The exhibition has just opened and is very popular. It is recommended to visit on a weekday or at opening time for a more comfortable experience. The self-service audio guide is temporarily unavailable.

The dream of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, back to the era of Princess Sissi.
Nowadays, many people go to the area near Yuyuantan to pick autumn leaves, but I went there today because the China Millennium Monument held an exhibition on Princess Sissi. I think I came to this exhibition because of fate - during the Spring Festival when I was 12 years old, I went to Europe with my school to perform cross-country, and I went to Vienna, Austria. The first time I went abroad, the first country I arrived in. In addition to rehearsing and performing in the Musikverein, we also visited the city and surrounding areas frequently in the past month. There are many Schönbrunn Palace and museums about the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Princess Sissi. But this time I learned that it would be launched in mid-November, and a sense of "personal nostalgia" ignited.
This exhibition is located on the second floor of the Millennium Monument. Before the event, everyone gathered together and some children played orchestral music for everyone in the hall. It was very cute to see how young and focused they were. Their orderly performance must be inseparable from diligent practice. This also reminded me of the rehearsal scene on the Golden Hall stage 20 years ago. Time flies.
This themed exhibition is a collaboration between China and Hungary’s official institutions such as the Gödlö Palace and the Hungarian National Museum. The exhibition is very carefully arranged. Unlike many commercial art exhibitions/galleries, this exhibition is also more down-to-earth. Many of Princess Sissi's personal belongings are displayed, interspersed with some precious works of art. Let everyone jump out of those old movies and get a closer look at the daily life scenes of Princess Sissi's era in reality.
This exhibition has a clear context, and the long time line in the center allows everyone to restore the life history of Princess Sissi and Franz according to the time, as well as the relationship between the art giants of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the royal family at that time, such as Liszt, Pei Doffy, Strauss the Younger, etc. The marriage of two major families is also the combination of two art collecting families, making the development of culture and art more colorful.
In the movie, Princess Sissi, played by Romy, is cute and playful, interpreting the story of the princess and the prince falling in love at first sight and living a happy life. The reality is that she went from being unrestrained at the beginning to becoming a queen, adapting to the red tape of the royal family, suffering from depression, contradicting love and freedom in her life, losing her beloved son, and being assassinated... Although the legend , but it can’t be called happiness... But I think whether we get to know her through the screen, exhibitions, or books, we hope in our hearts that she will always be the beautiful princess who loves horseback riding, has a brisk pace, and has an innocent personality.

Ancient Kiln, Modern Heart - The Song Dynasty Aesthetics of Ding Porcelain.
Ding porcelain, produced in Quyang County, Hebei Province, was originally made in Dingzhou, Zhili, during the Tang Dynasty, and reached its peak during the Northern Song Dynasty and the Jin Dynasty. It disappeared during the Yuan Dynasty. Known for its "white as jade, thin as paper, and sound as chime" reputation, it is known as one of the five famous kilns of the Song Dynasty along with Ru, Guan, Ge, and Jun kilns. Ding porcelain is mainly a fine white porcelain with a white body and a slightly translucent white glaze. At the same time, it has greatly developed the carved, scratched, and printed decorations applied to the body. Its appearance marks the complete maturity of the production of fine white porcelain. Ding porcelain has been lost for a long time. In the 1970s, craftsmen studied it carefully and conducted repeated experiments, and finally succeeded in firing it again. Ding porcelain combines great beauty with white, and combines ancient charm with the artistic characteristics of the tube, conveying the oriental charm of Song Dynasty aesthetics in the years of thousands of turns. This "Ancient Kiln, Modern Heart - The Song Dynasty Aesthetics of Ding Porcelain" exhibition, co-hosted by Hebei Academy of Fine Arts and China Millennium Monument, shows the beauty of Ding porcelain and appreciates the aesthetics of Chinese Song Dynasty culture and life.

Piling Up Brocade on Spring Mountain - Exhibition of Outstanding Works from the Special Talent Training Program for Beijing Patchwork Embroidery.
Beijing patchwork embroidery, also known as carved patchwork embroidery, is a traditional handicraft unique to Beijing. It originated from the "pile brocade" and "paste silk" of the Tang Dynasty and integrated embroidery and patchwork skills. It uses natural silk fabrics as the main material, adopts brocade, gauze, silk, satin and other fabrics as the base, and then pastes silk, brocade, silk and colorful phoenix tail yarn. Among them, "paste silk" is a single-layer silk fabric cut into a pattern and pasted flat, some are sewn after pasting, and some are only pasted without sewing. "Pile brocade" is a brocade or other silk fabric cut, piled and spliced into multi-level patterns. Some are filled with wadding materials in the petals, and the patterns are raised into relief, often used to make thangkas and Buddha statues in temples. In addition, patchwork embroidery is also widely used in court and folk personal items, such as sachets, purses, etc. Its craftsmanship includes relief, weaving, embroidery and other techniques, and it is completed through multiple fine processes such as design, material selection, and cutting. Among them, the "soft dial" process is particularly outstanding.
In May 2021, Beijing Embroidery (Patchwork Embroidery) was announced by the State Council as the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects.

Stars on the Volga River - Russian Academy of Arts Exhibition
Throughout human history, major rivers have been the birthplaces of civilization, carrying the origins and development of human society, culture, and art. The Volga River, the longest river in Europe and the longest inland river in the world, is like a crystal-clear vein that not only flows through the vast Caucasus, but also runs through the long and splendid history of the East Slavs. It has always nurtured and created the rise and prosperity of the Russian nation and society, nourishing the colorful flowers of literature and art on this land. It is recognized as the mother river of Russia and is also a spiritual totem and symbol of the Russian people.
Looking back at the history of Russia's national development, there is also an important cultural landmark and holy place, which is the Russian Academy of Arts, which has been established for more than 300 years and still continues to influence and shape the contemporary national spirit of Russia with its vitality. Since the official establishment of the Art and Science Academy by Peter the Great in 1724, the Art and Science Academy has laid the foundation for the development of Russian culture and science, and has also laid the groundwork for future influence and contributions to the development of global culture and art. Over the past three centuries, the Art and Science Academy has experienced the Imperial Art and Science Academy (1724-1918, St. Petersburg), the All-Russian Art and Science Academy (1932-1947, Moscow), the Soviet Art and Science Academy (1947-1992, Moscow), and the Russian Art and Science Academy (1992-present, Moscow). With the vicissitudes of life, the Art and Science Academy has undergone reconstruction and reform, and has always been the highest-level art and science institution in Russia. Behind this are thousands of academicians and artists and hundreds of thousands of fine arts, architecture, and science works. These academicians are like stars in the sky above the Volga River, shining brightly, and their works are like brilliant stars, not only illuminating the long history of Russian fine arts, but also guiding the future development direction.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia and the China-Russia Cultural Year. This exhibition, titled "Stars on the Volga River", showcases a total of 109 paintings by academicians of the Russian Academy of Arts since the 20th century. It focuses on displaying works of different themes and language styles such as natural scenery, character portraits, and formal exploration. Visitors can stroll in the quiet and elegant exhibition hall like a splendid galaxy, allowing their spirits to travel to the strange and magnificent world of Russian culture and art, and deeply appreciate its natural style and cultural charm.

Mountain and Sea Encounter: Stone Rhyme and Resonance - Zhongjin Stone Carving Art Exhibition.
The China-Africa Cooperation Forum has just ended, and a large stone carving art exhibition from Zimbabwe, Africa and "China's Carving Town" - Hebei Quyang is held in the China Century Altar, providing Chinese audiences with an excellent opportunity to appreciate the stone carving art of the two countries. The two countries have different geographical locations, material contrasts, creative theme contrasts, and carving techniques in stone carving art, but the stone carving artworks they create all shine with the glory of human culture.
The long geological time has created almost eternal stone elements. If time is used as the axis of human civilization development, stone carving art is the philosophy of human engraving. Artists are always looking for ways to shape eternity, linking natural elements and the spiritual world, and using the extension of shapes and the rhythm of stone materials to stand between mountains and seas.
Zimbabwe, in Shona language, means "Stone City". Its stone carving art is mainly expressed in the form of primitive life tension and natural composition language, showing the tracing of the ancient civilization of the African continent and the reverence for the mysterious power of nature. Hebei Quyang, China, as the "Chinese Carving Town", with its exquisite craftsmanship and profound cultural heritage, condenses the essence and wisdom of Chinese civilization in stone carving works. Although the two art communities have different regional characteristics and cultural genes, they meet and carry their own ancient and deep cultural traditions due to the same material properties of stone.
On the occasion of the 2024 China-Africa Cooperation Forum, the stone carving art of the two countries crossed the mountains and seas, and completed a meeting of different civilizations. The intersection of different perspective languages will become the re-precipitation of the ancient wisdom of the two countries, and it also carries the friendship of the two peoples and the longing for a better future. This stone carving art expo encounter can become a bridge linking peace and respect, adding more diverse colors and rhythms to the continuation of human civilization.

To celebrate and commemorate the successful inscription of the Beijing Central Axis as a World Heritage Site, the "Impressions of Beijing - Public Seal Carving Exhibition" is being held at the China Millennium Monument.

Beijing April New Exhibition | Seeing Emperor Huizong Again, Experience the Culture of the Song Dynasty
💁♀️When talking about the culture of Emperor Huizong's era, what comes to mind?
👉Is it the everlasting Song Jin script? Or Ma Yuan's 'Three Friends of Winter'? Or perhaps the pinnacle of Chinese aesthetics, Song porcelain? If you're also interested in this culture, come and explore!
👉【Ceramics】
🌟Song porcelain advocates a minimalist aesthetic, winning with unique shapes and glaze colors!
🌟The infinitely gentle carved Douli bowls, the distinctive oil-drop tributary Douli bowls are all exquisitely crafted, mesmerizing to look at!
🌟Double-eared vases with fresh flowers, paper umbrellas with dry branches, three-legged incense burners with items placed inside... Each artifact seems to still be in use, exuding endless vitality!
👉【Paintings】
🌟Many paintings have traveled overseas and, after several turns, have been preserved by our country's collectors, and now meet everyone in this exhibition.
🌟'Three Friends of Winter' by Ma Yuan of the Southern Song, 'Snowy Mountain' by Yan Wengui of the Northern Song, 'Iron Net Coral' by Wang Meng of the Yuan Dynasty, 'Gold Pellets Falling Birds' by an anonymous artist of the Northern Song, are all paintings worth a closer look! If accompanied by explanations, the experience would be even better! 👀
🧑🏫Differences between Southern and Northern Song paintings: Influenced by the times, Northern Song paintings are more open and grand, with a majestic momentum; while Southern Song paintings are more detailed and intricate.

Century Altar Chinese Painting Exhibition Featuring Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, and Zhang Daqian
Although there are many art exhibitions, only a few can truly be considered the pinnacle of art. It was only when Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, and Zhang Daqian, three masters of modern Chinese art, were brought together that I realized the intricate connections between them. Who is the little genius who came up with this curatorial concept? 💥🌟
Qi Baishi excelled in painting flowers, birds, and ink landscapes; Xu Beihong was a master of horse painting and also excelled in portraiture; Zhang Daqian's landscapes and flowers were always uniquely diverse, innovating within traditional themes. Their works are not only artistic treasures but also bear witness to rich emotions and legendary stories 🖌💫
However, it was through this exhibition that I learned not only of the seemingly distant appellations like 'Southern Daqian and Northern Baishi,' but also that Zhang Daqian once commented on and praised Qi Baishi's paintings, expressing deep admiration for his artistic achievements. Qi Baishi and Xu Beihong had a mentor-friend relationship; Xu Beihong once served as Qi Baishi's studio assistant in Shanghai, and the two held several joint exhibitions in Beijing. Despite differences in creative style and school of painting, all three had deep research and understanding of Chinese traditional culture and art, expressing it through their unique artistic languages. These artists lived through the most turbulent times of modern history, maintaining integrity in their works while reflecting on social phenomena and historical events. They also played a crucial role in Chinese art education and heritage, possessing connections far beyond our recognition in the distant timespace 🌟
The exhibition also integrates the collision of technology and art, presenting five major interactive light and shadow zones, with AI-powered creativity, bringing beautiful paintings of sound, light, and shadow, allowing visitors to feel the brushstrokes and flow of colors. Nowadays, many exhibitions include immersive interactive elements and various technologies, but I must say that this exhibition is one of the best I've seen recently in terms of creative and technological integration. It's not just an art display but an immersive experience of the perfect combination of art and technology! The emotion of stepping into landscape paintings, the excitement of seeing galloping horses come to life, and the interactive methods that fit the themes are truly unique when done officially 🌈🎭
The original works of these three great masters are gathered together for a limited-time exhibition, so hurry up and check it out! 🎨🌸💫
