Munich’s Majestic Landmark
#traveldiaries
The Frauenkirche, or Cathedral of Our Lady, is one of Munich’s most recognizable landmarks, thanks to its twin onion-domed towers that dominate the city’s skyline. Built in the late Gothic style in the 15th century, the cathedral offers a peaceful respite amidst the bustling streets. Inside, visitors can admire its soaring ceilings, grand stained-glass windows, and significant artworks, such as the tomb of Emperor Ludwig IV. One of the highlights is climbing the south tower to enjoy panoramic views of Munich and the distant Bavarian Alps. The Frauenkirche is not only an architectural masterpiece but also a spiritual heart of the city, making it an ideal spot to add to any travel diary filled with historical and cultural wonders.

Follow Wukong to explore ancient buildings: Munich Frauenkirche and Berlin Cathedral in Germany
I must declare that a friend is traveling in Germany 🇩🇪 with a child for study, and took some photos as requested. Except for the 6th photo with the German flag and the dome of the church, the requested photo of the Devil's Footprint 👣 was not taken. Therefore, I can only collect information from an architectural perspective and share it with friends.
You can interact and claim a photo.
⛱️Must-visit attractions:
1. The Legend of the Devil's Footprint 👣
In the Frauenkirche in Munich, Germany, there is a conspicuous footprint on the ground as soon as you enter the door, which people call the Devil's Footprint.
There is a magical legend about this footprint, which brings a mysterious atmosphere to this ancient church.
Every year, tourists come in an endless stream to see this footprint, making this church famous.
It is said that when the church was originally planned to be built, the Devil learned of this news and was very angry: "What! Another new church is going to be built, it must not be built." So, it found the architect and demanded that the church be built according to its requirements, that is, the Devil should not see any windows from where it stood, because the Devil does not like light and hopes the church will be in complete darkness, otherwise it would take the architect's soul. This really troubled the architect.
On the day of completion, the Devil came to inspect and found that from where it stood, indeed no windows could be seen, but the church was still very well-lit.
It turned out that the clever architect used tall columns to block the Devil's view, and there were many windows on both sides of the church, making the whole church very bright, but no windows could be seen from where the Devil stood.
This made the Devil very angry and helpless, it stomped its foot hard and then left, leaving a footprint on the ground.
2. The Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom) is a Lutheran church located at the eastern end of Museum Island in central Berlin, Germany.
It was once the court church of the House of Hohenzollern of the German Empire.
3. Andreas Mueller, the dean of St. Nicholas' Church in Berlin, Germany.
Mueller was commissioned by the Elector of Brandenburg to collect books and reports about China and also studied Chinese characters. He claimed to have discovered the "key" to mastering Chinese characters, but kept it secret, and later burned his years of hard work.
4. The 7th photo: The dome of the church is wide and tall, with gilded mosaic holy paintings and side-lit windows making people feel as if the Holy Spirit has descended.
🌄Travel Tips:
You can visit German churches when no worship services are being held.
The church is open from Monday to Saturday 9am—8pm, from April to September on Sunday afternoons from 12pm—8pm, and from October to March on Sundays from 12pm—7pm; the basement is open from Monday to Saturday 9am—6pm, and on Sundays from 12pm—6pm.
🏨Accommodation Tips:
Be sure to book hotels online in advance.
It is said that the initial design concept of the Bavarian Court Hotel came from King Ludwig I, and it is one of the most legendary hotels in Munich.
The hotel perfectly combines historical elegance with modern elements.
On the hotel's terrace, you can fully enjoy the picturesque scenery of Munich. In summer, it can be used for barbecues, and in winter it becomes a unique ice bar.
Hotel guests can enter the hotel's own cinema for free and enjoy the charm of movies while lying on comfortable sofas.

Additional must-visit spots:
1. In Munich, you must not miss the noble and elegant yet historically rich palace area and the distinctive Frauenkirche;
2. The Gothic New Town Hall,
3. The Roman-style King's Square and various modern buildings.
4. One building after another makes you feel like you are walking through a corridor of architectural history, making you marvel at the name "European Architecture Museum".
European buildings are in the center, surrounded by greenery, with an empty exterior and a solid interior, using emptiness to highlight the solid, from the palace to the residences, there are no solid walls.
Observing from the street, the building's image is fully visible.
Private green spaces and the entire city merge into a unified landscape, with openness and public enjoyment.
Residents love to plant flowers and trees by their windows and doors, and climbing plants are often seen on walls, making the whole city look like a large garden.

Travel to Munich, Germany (Munich Old Town, Frauenkirche)
Located near Marienplatz in Munich's old town, this cathedral is considered a symbol and landmark of the Bavarian capital. There are many similar large cathedrals or church buildings in Munich, making it hard to distinguish them. This cathedral is also known as Munich Cathedral and was completed in 1494, boasting a long history and tradition. The building, made of red bricks, features two Gothic-style towers and an interior with very high and long arched ceilings and halls, making a strong impression.

Churches are one of the most famous and beautiful landmarks in Europe. That's what I got to witness when I was visiting Frauenkirche (also know as Cathedral Of Our Dear Lady) in Munich Germany. You can admire the beautiful carvings, colourful glasses, candles etc.
In 2024, I hope to visit other churches in other parts of Europe where I have never been to.
