Ciqikou Food street Chongqing 🇨🇳
The busiest and most crowded area of Chongqing is most probably Ciqikou. To be honest it's with good reason.
The smells of the food are so good my wife way to loudly shouted that "My mouth is literally watering" . A little embarrassing maybe, but the good is great.
Spicy snacks, hotpot blocks being freshly made, nuts, chilli, sweet and savory snacks the options feel endless.
The stalls are friendly and the level of hassling is low.
A must visit when in Chongqing

Ciqikou (Chinese: 磁器口; pinyin: Cíqìkǒu; lit. 'Porcelain Port') is a Subdistrict in the Shapingba District of Chongqing Municipality, People's Republic of China. It was originally called Longyin Town (simplified Chinese: 龙隐镇; traditional Chinese: 龍隱鎮; pinyin: Lóngyǐn zhèn) and was also known as Little Chongqing.
According to an old Chinese proverb: "One flagstone road, and one thousand years' Ciqikou". The name of the town can be traced back to porcelain production during the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing Dynasties. Formerly a busy port located at the lower reaches of the Jialing River, a thousand years after its foundation the town remains a symbol and microcosm of old Chongqing (Jiang Zhou).

Ciqikou for the win!
Ciqikou is the icing on the very delicious Chongqing cake 🍰. It's a must-see (taste, hear and smell, literally) when in Chongqing. There's a little bit of everything for everyone including watching not-shy-at-all Indian men sell lamb on kibbob sticks while dancing enthusiastically to very upbeat Indian music (it was a treat), foot massage, ear cleaning 🧹 👂 (Yes, you heard right 🤣) and hair braiding, which the kids will love. It's called an ancient town but somehow they manage to make it appeal to 21st century consumers without losing its original purpose. I also loved the experience of candy tasting and seeing how they make jewelry from stone. The walk through the town was an absolute delight. There was just so much to see and experience. My daughter was too happy to stumble upon a play area where she could drive cars and buy ice-cream🍨🍦. You can't go to Chongqing without stopping here.

Ciqikou Ancient Town gives you this laid-back, quiet and relaxing feeling as you stroll around the area. It is huge but there are cafes and stores inside where you can get some quick chill and rest before you continue walking around. Plus, it is picture-worthy, too! 😉#urbanexplorer #summervacation

Ancient town in Chongqing
The Ciqikou ancient town is a great place to visit on a hot day. It’s only a few minutes walk away from Ciqikou metro station.
Inside the town there are plenty of snack and drink cafés situated between the small lanes. There are lots of shops selling postcards, jewellery and spices.
We found an old shop which was selling old reading material, vases, cameras, coins e.t.c. We had to do some bargaining but we bought some vintage jewellery, old camera and even a red book translated into English. We caught a taxi which cost 18rmb from Yuzhong district. From here we visited Longquandong Taoist temple which was another 10 minute drive away, which was unfortunately closed, but had beautiful views.

Ancient Town of Chongqing - Ciqikou
When in Chongqing, Ciqikou is definitely worth a visit. It’s located to the West of the city, accessible via subway line 1. I took a didi from Guanghuan Shopping Park area, this took around 15 minutes only.
Inside the Ancient Town can be described as a maze. There are many turns you can take and each one leads down a new path. Along the way, I found a cat cafe, local food stalls and many cute stationary places. Somehow I wondered off the main path and through a stepped area where I found a tiny cafe that looked set up on someone’s garden. It was cosy and the owners were really friendly plus decent coffee.
When near the subway area of the Ancient Town, you’ll experience a more modern approach. Many food shops like in the city and delicious ice cream!
Entry costs 30rmb and you could easily spend a day here.

Ciqikou on a weekday
#historicplaces #ciqikou #chongqing #urbanwalk
Ciqikou is a quite famous place in Chongqing. Constantly developing to attract tourist. It is an ancient town within a moder day city.
You can take puclic transportation to get there. The most convenient one is the light rain line 1, which takes you to Ciqikou station (瓷器口站). There are also some bus stations close by.
Ciqikou was first built during the Song Dynasty, and became prosperous during the Republican Period. Located next to the Jialing River, Ciqikou was a busy and crowded port, and was also called “Little Chongqing”.
You can enjoy the local specialities, teas and also visit the Baolun temple, which is located close to the river. There is one famous smelly/sticky tofu place, where you need to line up to get the delicacy.
If you want to avoid the crowds from the main shopping street, feel free to wander around the secondary streets ad enjoy a glimps of the authentic Chongqing life.

Lost in History
Ciqikou Ancient Town is conveniently located close to central Chongqing, easily accessible by bus, car or as we used, the metro. The entrance is directly adjacent to the Metro station. As this was during Chinese New Year, it was busy when we visited, however it was still nice to see. The areas at street level were rather commercialized and catered to tourists. However, to see the older and more attractive buildings, it is advised to climb up the hill and explore the smaller alleyways and stairwells. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the entrance here because the APP is only designed to use the Chinese ID card and not foreign passports, which I thought was very inconvenient and not inclusive. After complaining and getting nowhere, we simple decided to find another entrance to gain entry. You can spend alot of time wandering around and admiring the architecture here, as well as taking photos. There are many places to eat and small quaint bars to enjoy an afternoon beer or coffee, and view the terraces below. If in Chongqing, it's definitely worth a visit. Best time to visit is late afternoon, so can catch sunset and the different lighting as the night comes in.

One of the Oldest Shopping Streets in CQ
As an ancient town in the Shapingba District of Chongqing, we had to go and check out what all the fuss was about during our visit there. This old architectural landmark has a history of around 1,000 years, and there are still sections of it that live on today that will allow you a glimpse into the past. It wsa pretty busy throughout our visit during National Week, but it was still a great place to wander through for a couple of hours, dipping into quaint little boutique shops, trying some local delicacies and snapping pictures of the picturesque buildings.
Plus, you’ll find so many places cooking up fresh chilli sauce - you can literally smell the spice in the air.

Ciqikou Ancient Town
Ciqikou ancient town is a little outside of Chongqing city centre, around a 25 minute taxi ride, but surely it's worth it to see the winding streets and colourful displayed of Chinese lanterns and umbrellas.
Grab a milk tea and browse endless shops that sell anything from shoes, traditional Chinese trinkets, snacks and unique little gems. There are also small museums and art installations to enjoy, as well as a park and as many restaurants as you can imagine!
As you head further up, you can see over the rooftops and out onto the mountains, which is very much breathtaking. Beautiful area and well worth a visit!

Must try their specialities : Peanuts with Mala chilli. It was so good. It could be a good friend while you were watching the good sunset in the beautiful Yangtse riverside.

🚇 Travel: Subway: Take Line 1 to Ciqikou Station, exit from Exit 1, and walk about 500 meters to reach the main entrance of Ciqikou Ancient Town.
Grilled Rice Cake on Stone Slab: A specialty of Jiangjin area, handmade rice cakes are grilled on a hot stone slab, with soybean flour added, giving a soft, glutinous, and sweet taste.
Sugar Painting: A food full of childhood memories, push the turntable on the right with your hand, select the shape of the sugar painting, and the craftsman will immediately scoop up a spoonful of sugar and make it in a few moments. You can pay to specify one, such as a Peppa Pig sugar painting, which is super cute.

Chen Mahua: One of the most famous delicacies in Ciqikou, several stores are opened along one street, each with long queues in front. Although locals can't tell which one is the authentic, it doesn't matter, as long as it's delicious. Each Chen Mahua store offers tastings, so you can choose the one that best suits your taste.
Dragon Beard Crisp: A folk snack with over 2000 years of history, the main ingredient is maltose, which is repeatedly pulled into strands and then bunched together, offering a rich, crispy, and delicious taste.

In addition to some snacks, restaurant delicacies such as Mao Blood Curd and Ancient Town Chicken Giblets are also worth checking in.

Older part of town with narrow streets full of little shops and bars with live music . The food stalls are vending very similar type of food and there is not much diversity. But the atmosphere is worth coming here for and it is lovely especially at night. Small bars located on the second floor of those houses , they step nicely decorated with tranquil appeal . Come here and get a drink , enjoy the music.

Chongqing One-Day Tour
Chongqing: Punch-In Style Travel (Two Days)
Hard seat for ten hours, arrived at 5.2 noon, then went straight to sightseeing without rest (because the hotel I stayed at was not very convenient for transportation, a bit far from the downtown area).
5.2 afternoon Liberation Monument → Guanyin Bridge → Eighteen Stairs → Hongya Cave (so crowded, couldn't really see anything)
5.3 Zoo → Liziba → Ciqikou
p5 First time trying Chayanyuese tea, hehe it's tasty and I love it
p6p7 Only briefly walked a bit of the Eighteen Stairs, didn't explore the whole area, regrettable p8 The zoo was the right choice, definitely worth a visit, full of emotional value
Personal experience and lessons: Accommodation must be chosen close to the subway entrance (it's convenient to take the subway in Chongqing, with extensive coverage); as for food, everyone has their own taste, I don't dare to comment randomly, I personally find it okay, mainly trying out new things; the weather is not cold, but it depends on the individual, some people are cold-sensitive (short sleeves + light jacket), it's also fine to wear skirts and short sleeves directly.
Conclusion: The short time spent sightseeing is really not because I don't want to, but because of limited holiday time! In my view, Chongqing has a sense of technology + cyberpunk style (truly a personal feeling), with a strong sense of gradient layers, giving me a unique experience, definitely worth spending more time to experience and see. I love Chongqing, Chongqing, we will meet again.

Ciqikou in Chongqing has undergone a huge transformation! The ancient and quaint stilted buildings are so beautiful!
🎉【Chongqing✨Ciqikou's Big Change‼️ The ancient and quaint stilted buildings🏠 are stunningly beautiful🌟】✨
Having been around for a thousand years, Ciqikou ancient town has today transformed into a treasure land of time travel!🏞️ I am an undeniable old fan, but the level of surprise this time has filled me with an entire storybook!📚
🚶♀️The newly added back street is like a hidden passage in Ciqikou, with the ancient and quaint stilted buildings and wooden walkways🏠, as if stepping into an ancient scroll. The stage is alive with the vibrant Sichuan opera, and lanterns light up the night, unbelievably beautiful!🏮
🔍Located at the back street of Ciqikou in Shapingba District, Chongqing, the coordinates are right on Cina Street, just a few short steps from the subway station🚶♂️. And don't worry about tickets, just scan the code for free roaming, it couldn't be more considerate!
🌅At night, the ancient stilted buildings in Ciyue Li shine under the moonlight, and the stories on the stage resonate in the light. The memory of Chongqing is in every brick and tile.
🌸The back street park not only has a museum but also those replicated teahouses and the long river of history, every step is a mark of time. The red lanterns on Happiness Street are simply paradise for Hanfu enthusiasts, put on Hanfu, and it's as if you've traveled back to ancient times.
🎊Now, Ciqikou not only offers traditional experiences, but the roads have been widened, shops are dazzling, and even ear picking and opera watching have been upgraded! Every visit brings new discoveries, making people linger and forget to return.

Ciqikou's charm is simply irresistible! It's a millennium-old town that deserves a spot on anyone's life list
If you ever visit Chongqing, I recommend taking a trip to Ciqikou Ancient Town in Shapingba District! As a folk cultural ancient town with a history of a thousand years, Ciqikou served as the northern gate of ancient Chongqing. It became a commercial port where water and land routes converged during the Ming Dynasty and is known as 'Little Chongqing'.
This place is also a unique snapshot of old Chongqing, with a stone tablet inscribed with 'Little Chongqing' by Lin Sen, the President of the Nationalist Government during the Republic of China era, still standing on the street. Ciqikou is the largest ancient town in Chongqing's main urban area, embodying the traditional Bayu residential architecture, folk customs, and local culture. It features traditional residential buildings, unique stone stair alleys, remaining temples and shrines, and serves as a natural museum of Bayu mountainous residential architecture. The town is a leader in showcasing Hongyan culture, religious culture, Shaci culture, and Bayu culture.

✨At Baolun Temple, you can enjoy the tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle, walk on the ancient ginkgo 'Love Ladder', look up at the high towers of the temple, gaze down at the Jialing River flowing endlessly beneath the temple's tiled roofs...
