A Night of Passion and Rhythm: Flamenco at Esplanade Theatre
#folkactivities #100waysoftravel #singapore
I had the pleasure of attending a captivating flamenco performance at the Esplanade Theatre on the bay, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of this iconic Spanish dance. The event was a vibrant celebration of rhythm, passion, and artistry.
From the moment the dancers took the stage, their energy was palpable. Each performance was infused with intense emotion, demonstrating the deep connection between the dancers and the music. The intricate footwork, elegant hand movements, and expressive facial expressions created a mesmerizing visual experience.
The live music accompaniment was equally impressive, featuring skilled guitarists and passionate singers who enhanced the atmosphere. The interplay between the dancers and musicians was a highlight, illustrating the improvisational spirit of flamenco.
The program also included a variety of styles, from traditional to contemporary interpretations, showcasing the versatility of flamenco. Each piece told a unique story, drawing the audience into the world of Spanish culture.
Overall, this performance was a delightful immersion into flamenco. The talent on display and the enthusiastic audience created an unforgettable evening. I highly recommend attending if you have the chance to experience this extraordinary art form.

Weather: Sunny with chances of 🌧
Hotel: Ibis Budget Singapore Mount Faber

💡 Singapore tourist pass - Offers tourists unlimited travel using LRT, MRT and buses for 1, 2 or 3 days. I obtained mine at the VivoCity station located at the Harbourfront.
💡Cable Car Flexi Pass - Offers unlimited cable car rides for the day and 2 free activities to choose from. I suggest getting the Sentosa Bus Tour and Wings of Time. I got the deal at the Harbourfronttower two gondola lift station for $65 per adult.
✨️ Day 1 - I spent the whole day exploring the popular spots near the Marina Bay.The Flower Dome and Cloud Forest require an entrance fee but it is worth it! I also loved the free Supertree lightshows at 7:45pm and 8:45pm.
📍 Esplanade -Theatres on the bay
📍 Merlion park
📍 Gardens by the Bay: Cloud Forest, Flower Dome and Supertree Grove.
✨️Day 2 - I roamed the streets of Chinatown and tried some delicacies. After lunch, I visited Mount Faber Peak and Sentosa Island via Cable car. I'm glad I opt in for Sentosa Bus Tour and Wings of Time as part of Flexipass deal. I was able to explore the island with short amount of time. If you prefer to spend more time at the USS, you need to be early as it can be very busy.
📍Chinatown
📍Mount Faber Peak
📍Sentosa Island: Resorts World Sentosa - Universal Studios, Palawan Beach, Siloso Beach, Imbiah Lookout and Fort Siloso Skywalk.
✨️Day 3 - I was able to see Singapore from the 57th floor of Marina Bays Sands hotel. I also immerse myself to art and technology in a museum and then I joined a optional night tour around Singapore. It was an awesome experience!

Day 1 in Singapore 🇸🇬
Singapore is the second country I visited with my family in 2023. I always wanted to see this beautiful country, and when I finally did, I wasn't disappointed. We decided to stay for 4 days.
On the first day, we decided to explore the city and visit the famous landmarks near the bay.
1) Esplanade -Theatres on the bay 🎭
Location: 1 Esplanade Dr, Singapore 038981
I love the outdoor theatre, which boasts a spectacular view of the Marina Bay sands and the ArtScience Museum from afar. It is also impossible to miss the unique exterior design of the two domes similar to a Durian fruit.
2) Merlion Park ⛲️
Location: 1 Fullerton Rd, Singapore 049213
Popular spot for tourists, I am glad to have an opportunity to snap a photo of myself with the iconic Merlion in the background. It only takes less than 10 minutes walk from the Esplanade via Jubilee Bridge.
3) Gardens by the Bay 🌱
Location: 18 Marina Gardens Dr, Singapore 018953
It is a botanical paradise that features two conservatories for various species of plants and trees. Both Cloud Forest and Flower Dome offers unique experiences, which is definitely worth the fee. We ended the trip with the spectacular Supertree light and sound show at night, which is absolutely free!
#2024wish I wanted to visit the Universal Studios in Osaka in 2024.

At the esplanade trip, I went to the jendela, the visual arts space. The opening hours are from 11am to 8pm daily. Jendela is the place to go if you are an arts person. They featured works by some of the local and international artists. When I went there, I saw this Indonesian artist's art work. The theme of the art piece is called fracture. It looks at how the people from the past have changed over the years from the perspective of hunting, greed, gathering, and defense of human life till today. The scene was quite dark and the place was kind of horrifying at times. At the end of the exhibition, there is a video of the people from the past, trying to hunt for their daily essentials.

Inside Esplanade: Architecture and Acoustics
Another activity checked off my bucket list is to join a guided tour of the Esplanade, the durian-shaped building. I finally had the free time to book this tour together with my sister. It costed us 20sgd per person to book this 1-hour long tour.
Ever since I watched Les Miserables in Esplanade, my fascination for this building has grown. As someone working in Design and Construction field, I have always wondered about the acoustics of the hall/theatre. The tour maybe short but it still provided us the important information and details that we needed to know regarding the design and how the acoustics work. The guide also explained how each detail of the structure contributes to the overall acoustics of the building. We were also able to enter and seat inside the concert hall and theatre. Taking photos while the tour is on-going was also allowed. The history and interesting trivia were also mentioned in the tour. The tour group is small so there was no issue with communication with the guide. The tour guide was considerate and approachable as she always asks if we have questions.
This tour is always available along with the other types of tour Esplanade is offering. This is one of the tours unique to Singapore since only Singapore has the durian building so it’s worth trying.

Discovering the Esplanade Mall
#singapore
There’s this hidden rooftop in the Esplanade mall to catch very good photography shots around the Marina Bay Area. It’s also very quiet here so you can actually sit down and chill around on the benches. Best time to come over will be evening as it’s more windy and you may get a chance to even catch the sunset. Other than the rooftop, there’s difference performance happening during weekends at the Auditorium outside Esplanade Mall. For indoors time to time there are also musical/drama/ arts performance in the Esplanade theatres.

Classic Singaporean cuisine
Nestled within the Singapore arts hub, the Esplanade, this humble restaurant is called Old School Delights serving authentic Singaporean cuisine from our childhood! It truly brings back memories and feelings of nostalgia eating here as the food on the menu is very similar to what Singaporeans grew up eating in schools.
Prior to the pandemic, they also had little games like five stones, donkey card sets and mini chess available for customers to relive their childhood classic games. However, they seem to have removed that. Nevertheless, it’s an excellent place to enjoy our favourite comfort meals like a blast from the past!
My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Arts in Tunnel
#mysgmemories
Address - 1 Esplanade Drive. Singapore 038981
Ambiance / Highlights - Discovery of Arts tunnel
Rating - 5/5
The espslande theatre has been one of Singapore most iconic symbol. It symbolises our Singapore most durian fruit which is durian. The architect of the theatre looks exactly like a durian husk. At the indoor area, there is a tunnel that showcases some of the performances. We saw the Thai dance performance being screened on the wall. Also, music instruments are displayed on the wall for you to take a look. There were also posters for the upcoming musical events that you should take note of. It is a very comfortable and relaxing tunnel walk there.

Sanity restored🤍
For any of the coffee fanatics to add to your coffee place would be his little small cafe known as Sanity Coffee Bar located in our iconic durian shell known as Esplanade Mall
Limited choices here but the coffee was great, not acidic at all and has a smooth aftertaste. The chocolate cake was good too and it goes well with their big 1 scoop of vanilla gelato
I love how they "espress" themselves through their coffee and art. They even have free postcards for the customers to take home!
Hopefully they will expand their shop as it wasnt exactly comfortable to chill in a crowded shop on a weekend.

City views from Esplanade rooftop
Address - Esplanade - Theatres On The Bay, 1 Esplanade Drive, Singapore 038981
Esplanade - Theatres On The Bay is strategically located at the bay front of the Singapore river, giving it a perfect vantage point for both waterfront and city views! Coming here in the day also offers great scenes of the Singapore skyline but it can be quite hot since it’s on the rooftop.
That’s why I suggest you come in the evening or at night instead as it’s more cooling and you get to watch the city light up the night sky! There are no tall buildings directly surrounding the Esplanade so you get to see panoramic views up to quite a distance, especially Marina Bay Sands.
